Sure, this thing already leaked thanks to a “butt-cam photo,” but now you can enjoy Thanos in all his high-definition genocidal glory thanks to the first official image of the Josh Brolin-portrayed character in Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanos doesn’t do much in the film, but his presence looms large throughout as the gang from Marvel are clearly setting him up to be the biggest of all bads in some future film or films. But if The Avengers offered a mere sip of Thanos, Guardians allows us one big gulp, and only one thing’s for sure: this is a guy you don’t want to cross (even though everyone seems to keep crossing him). Yesterday in our Iron Man 3 roundup we shared a video of Ben Kingsley –excuse me, SIR Ben Kingsley discussing his role as The Mandarin in Iron Man 3, but he also spoke briefly about Ender’s Game. We’ve learned a little about the flick from the few released photos, but without any footage yet released we’re still in the dark about what this adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s classic will be like.
This new photo of Kingsley as Mazer Rackham doesn’t provide a whole lot more, but we do get a fantastic look at that awesome Maori tribal tattoo on his face. Make sure you click it for a bigger version.
Talking with Entertainment Weekly about his role, Kingsley said,
In the script, which I think is beautifully written, what come across is the authority and mystery. There’s quite a lot said about him in the story before you see him — by the recruits and by his fellow officers — and that’s useful as far as preparations.
And of that face tat,
Every gesture in the tattoo carries family history, family struggles – it’s your past. I was so enthralled. He’s in quite a contained, stylized uniform but then this wonderful face tells his warrior history.
The detail is enthralling, can’t wait to see what it looks like up a giant movie screen! What do you think of the look they’ve given Kingsley’s Rackham?
We’ve already seen Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley as they appear in Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium, pictures that show off the dark and dirty side of planet Earth. Now, new behind-the-scenes photos have appeared online featuring Jodie Foster in her role as Secretary Rhodes. At first glance, it’s a stark contrast to how everyone else is looking in the upcoming sci-fi thriller.
With a first look you might expect something much like what they did in revealing Copley’s role as Kruger, but instead these shots were revealed courtesy of Jodie Foster fan twitter account Simply Jodie by way of Bleeding Cool. Check out the remainder of the three leaked shots after the jump.
When movie fans saw the first ever image from Neill Blomkamp‘s Elysium, we were treated to Matt Damon looking far from the Jason Bourne action hero we know him to be. Bald, dirty and carrying a bad ass Chemrail gun in a mission against those who live on Elysium, a pristine man-made space station for the rich and powerful.
Seeing as Damon is the hero and looks like shit, you would expect his counterpart to be clean and well kept as he tries to eliminate the hero. Empire gives us our first look at Elysium‘s Kruger, played by District 9’s Sharlto Copley, and we see exactly what we didn’t expect. If you don’t believe me, take a look for yourself and see what I mean after the jump.
As we eagerly await next week’s release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey most of us aren’t thinking about its sequel, The Desolation of Smaug, but we’ve got your first look at the film anyway courtesy of Entertainment Weekly,
Bilbo (Martin Freeman) on a giant pile of gold – wearing what looks like the one ring – looking at who? Well, Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch) I’d figure. Which is funny, ’cause I thought their first meeting would be more like this,
The wonderful illustration above is by sn0otchie. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey releases December 14th. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug releases a year from then. Just how excited are you?
After five long years of shifting studios, multiple script rewrites, delays and re-shoots pushing it’s release into 2013 it has finally arrived -I Am Legend 2! Just kidding. It’s actually the first full trailer reveal for the apocalyptic zombie film World War Z starring Brad Pitt.
Based on the book of the same name by Max Brooks, World War Z was adapted to film with the help of Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and Skydance Productions and directed for Paramount Pictures by Marc Forster. The movie tells the story of Gerry Lane (Pitt), a worker at the United Nations, as he searches the globe for information that can stop the zombie outbreak that is bringing down the nations of the world. We featured a sneak of the trailer a few days ago, but here is the complete package in its PG-13 tailored glory.
Honestly, from what we’ve seen so far this doesn’t look half bad. Paramount is offering viewers their own type of zombie, one that’s smarter and almost similar to the Vampire-based monsters of I Am Legend, except they won’t burn up in sunlight. A wise decision, considering if this pays off World War Z will be the first in a reported trilogy of films.
We’ll have to see how it all plays out as more of World War Z is released to the public and you know we’re going to keep you posted.
World War Z, starring Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale and Matthew Fox hits theaters everywhere June 21st, 2013.
Browncoats the world wide are waiting in great anticipation for the Science Channel‘s upcoming Firefly 10th anniversary special, Browncoats Unite airing on November 11th. What a strange group we Browncoats are, constantly reminding ourselves of the pain of having one’s favorite show cancelled well before its time. Maybe it’s that we take a certain amount of pride in the show’s post-cancellation success? Or maybe we just like torturing ourselves, it could be really be either/or.
Anyway, Entertainment Weekly shared the first look at the anniversary special last week during all the NYCC hubbub. (Psst, did you check out all our rockin’ NYCC coverage? Including the recap of the Firefly Reunion Panel.) Sadly, that clip was un-embeddable so we were unable to share it with all of you. Thank god for YouTubers and their diligence in making all web video simple and easy to share.
Watch the first clip from Browncoats Unite below, and let us know, will you be tuning in November 11th at 10pm when the special airs?

While I believe Daniel Radcliffe has the acting chops to take him far, let’s be honest, we’ll always think of him as Harry Potter. Though it looks like his new role in Horns will do much to change our impression of the boy wizard.
Horns is the story of Ignatius “Ig” Perrish, a young man who wakes up one day to the shock of horns growing from his head. It does sounds like he did his best to earn them as Ig is also accused of the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend. Well, what a swell chap. Along with his horns he’s also gifted the power to force, “people to tell the truth or compel them to give into their ugliest inner urges.” I can only assume – and hope – these powers come with price beyond his new headgear.
Radcliffe shared a few comments about his new role, saying, “It’s a very, very different type of part than anything I’ve done before.” Really? I would never have thought.
To play somebody who, in the midst of a time in his life of great turmoil anyway, undergoes this horrific transformation into a devil character — it was very, very exciting.
Entertainment Weekly has our first look of Radcliffe’s horny new look, check out the full image below.
We’ve seen them filming together, and it’s rumored her name is Clara, but this here is our first official look at the Doctor and his new companion. Released on BBC’s Doctor Who blog this is the first of three, exclusive, official photos. We can expect the other two next week. Soooo, what d’ya think?
I’m starting to wonder if this isn’t just a period appropriate outfit Matt Smith is wearing, but rather a whole new costume for the Doctor?!? He’s still rockin’ the bow tie, y’know, ’cause they’re cool, but he’s added a vest and the colors of his suit are far more muted. Plus, it’s not unheard of for a Doctor to change outfits, particularly when changing companions. What do you say, one episode wardrobe change or entirely new costume?
Now, that companion, I still don’t know what to think. She sure looks like an average, run of the mill, human girl but they keep stressing how different she is. Oh, how I wish she ends up being an alien or robot, or just something! Here’s a snippet of a quote from Smith about his new companion, Jenna-Louise Coleman,
It [filming on the new series] is going well. Jenna brings a really different energy to the show – one which I think is very interesting.
Coleman will first appear in the Christmas episode but the bulk of her episodes won’t air until 2013. That leaves the rest of 2012 to be spent preparing to say goodbye to the Ponds! Sniff!

There was a lot of hubbub over who’d play The Governor in season three of AMC‘s The Walking Dead. For a while Tom Savini desperately wanted the role, but in the end they made a surprising choice and cast Brit, David Morrissey. In this exclusive image from TV Guide we get our first look at Morrissey in costumer on the set,
Dudes, who’s the hipster in the background? Anyway, I can’t say they have Morrissey looking a lot like The Governor but a final opinion can’t be made until we see some footage. I like the look and hopefully as the season progress we’ll see him take on a few battle scars. I know I can’t wait see, uh, that stuff that happens. I can’t really say any more, y’know, spoilers.
What do you think of our first look at The Governor?
