Regardless of if you came to New York Comic Con (NYCC) for an elusive comic book, statue, or some hard to find toy, you were sure to find something on the show floor that was worth taking a hammer to your piggy bank. Unless, of course, you dealt with that heartbreaking sensation of falling in love with a collectible that wasn’t yet available for sale. Regardless, you have to admit that these showcases were filled with a ton of collector eye candy. And so, we gathered a few highlights from our journey across the floor. If you’ve been following our Twitter account today, then you are already well aware that the 2016 Toy Fair is underway at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City. The plaything equivalent of the Super Bowl, Toy Fair is the place where deals are made, swag is swug, and the public is introduced to what products will be the hits (and, in far too many cases, the misses) of the coming year. For the third year in a row, we sent writer Chris Cummins to check out the festivities and report back on his findings. Focusing on action figures and other collectibles, he discovered an array of products that will have you salivating and your wallet hurting. Here’s his take on the event’s most notable finds.
Running through this Thursday at New York City’s massive Javits Center, the 2014 Toy Fair is nothing short of nirvana for anyone who spends their days dreaming of action figures and other wonderful playthings. The annual event is the definitive gathering spot for industry execs, retailers, journalists and bloggers to learn about everything new in the world of toys. On Sunday, I had the opportunity to visit Toy Fair and check out what the major retailers — with the notable exception of Mattel and Lego, who never responded to our press requests, snobs — would be rolling out for the rest of this year and beyond. From the jaw-dropping to the unbelievably goofy, here’s my rundown of the best and worst that this year’s event had to offer. (more…)
This weekend, between brief and intermittent acts of football, TV audiences will see the first trailer for Iron Man 3 (you can see the teaser here.) When the Shane Black directed movie hits theaters on May 3rd it will be the starting point for Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic universe, a phase that seems to be taking a bit of a darker tone. If you’ve watched any of the previous teasers, you see that things won’t be to calm and easy for Tony Stark and as more details start to come out it only seems to get darker.
After the jump we have the just released poster that shows the path that Stark is on in this movie (spoiler alert, its not up) plus we have Robert Downey Jr. giving some insight on the films villain, the ominous Mandarin, played by the incomparable Sir Ben Kingsley (spoiler apparently he is awesome) and something that is just a big ass cosmic sized spoiler. Just so you know.
