A The Lone Ranger film -based on the blacked masked gunslinger from the classic radio show and television series – has been in the Hollywood machine since 2002. Only recently has the project made some headway. A while back an official logo (seen here) was released accompanied by news that Johnny Depp would be playing Tonto. Word has been hush since.
Well it looks like all they need now is a horse to play Silver because the masked gunslinger himself has been chosen and he’s married to Elizabeth Chambers. Hell yeah, The Lone Ranger is going to be Armie Hammer (The Social Network)
Who was that masked man anyway?
Written by Justin Haythe and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Armie is in early talks to star opposite Johnny Depp in the Gore Verbinski-directed film for Disney. If all goes well, Hammer could be shouting “Hi-yo Silver! Away!” sometime in the near future. Being that this is after all a Disney move it’s safe to say the highest rating this movie will see is a pg-13, but it could be straight gold rather then that weakling silver. Hammer will first get the role of the prince in Relativity Media’s Snow White, out June 29th, 2012.
The lone Ranger; a surviving Texas Ranger who was nursed back to health by the Indian Tonto rides with him, on Silver and Scout, throughout the West, doing good while living off a silver mine which supplies him with income and bullets.
The CGI movie Rango appears to be very interesting.
First off, it is directed by Gore Verbinski (director of The Pirates of the Caribbean) and stars Johnny Depp, Alanna Ubach, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher and Alfred Molina.
The plot, for which we finally now a little something about thanks to the trailer embedded below, revolves around a chameleon who is left in the desert and pretends to be a famous gunslinger, ultimately becoming the sheriff of a dusty ol’ town.
If this trailer is any indication, this movie is going to be amazing!
Only one question remains though … what’s with the orange wind-up fish toy?
Folks, the image above shows logos for upcoming films that are being worked on and I don’t know about you but it’s about damn time that we finally get a Candyland flick. Hasbro recently held a stockholders meeting and decided to show off and give updates on movie projects that are based on their properties.
The first update is that the Ouija movie is set for November 9th, 2012 release date but it has yet to find it’s director. Word is that they are trying to get Pierre Morel (Taken) to direct it. The next update was that they revealed a image of Snake Eyes with the words G.I. Joe 2 next to him (image available). The last big update was that J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) is still on board as the director for the Micronauts film.
After that they revealed directors for the following films: Peter Berg (Hancock, The Kingdom) – Battleship; Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Alien, Shark Tale) – Stretch Armstrong; Kevin Lima (A Goofy Movie, Enchanted) – Candyland; Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy, The Ring) – Clue; and Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) – Monopoly. They also revealed that Will Smith will be the producer for the Risk film.

New direction means Gore Verbinsky is out and the choreographer turned directer Rob Marshal is being sought after. Verbinsky has hacked and slashed his way to 2.67 Billion worldwide gross, so it is a very strange move for the company to make this move. Marshall has directed the films “Memoirs of a Geisha” and “Chicago,” which won six Oscars, including best picture. So, who knows, it’s a mystery, I mean, its still gonna swell with white hype and break huge, but you never change a horse in midstream.
Also it has been said that Orlando Bloom will not be returning. I guess the way they tied up part 3, it is reasonable, but they offered it to him and he was roughly quoted aas saying he wanted to spend more time with his supermodel girlfriend….and Lennon said the same about Yoko….
