Oh, Screen Junkies. You do make me laugh so very much. And I have to send out a word of thanks that the team that puts together the amazing Honest Trailers segment on YouTube finally got around to doing one of the most schizophrenic comic book movies ever made – Green Lantern. It’s the movie that made Ryan Reynolds’ name into a household curse word and it deserves the treatment more than most. Scroll on to enjoy all the buttery goodness of the Green Lantern Honest Trailer. Justice League

DC and Warner Bros are still playing major catch-up with Marvel Studios but it seems like they are diving headfirst into the future of their superhero films.

If a new report is to be believed, DC and WB have a huge slate of films planned, starting with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. What follows that wildly anticipated film? A whole lot, including Shazam, Wonder Woman and even a Green Lantern and Flash team-up film.

That’s quite an undertaking, DC. Let’s take a look at how it’s laid out. (more…)

Just when you thought he was out…they drag him back in! Nathan Fillion has been a go-to fan favorite when anyone speculates about casting in Marvel or DC movies. He was considered by the Internet as the shoe in choice for Edgar Wright‘s Ant-Man and was a top five likely for Green Lantern before Ryan Reynolds got the role. Now he’s hinting that he may finally have a Marvel comic book movie role. (more…)

With the success of The Lego Movie, Gravity, the buzz surrounding the upcoming Batman & Superman team up film and the news that we will see a new trilogy from the Harry Potter-verse in the future, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara is surely riding high, but he’s not Marvel Studios high, and that may be something that the exec wants to change. (more…)

Rock02Few actors have been connected to more live action comic book (particularly DC) adaptations than WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Fanboys, “insiders”, and rumor mongers have mentioned him as a possible candidate for such characters as Green Lantern, Black Adam, Martian Manhunter, Gravedigger, and Lex Luthor.

Johnson was in Las Vegas at CinemaCon promoting his upcoming film, Hercules: The Thracian Wars, and he took the time to address the question of which, if any, DC character he might be in serious negotiations to portray on the big or small screen:  (more…)

A week doesn’t go by without a wild rumor appearing about DC and Warner Bros.’ future movie plans. There’s already plenty of rumors claiming more characters than the titular two (+ Wondy) are appearing in Batman vs. Superman. So much so, it’s beginning to look a lot more like league of justice or something. Perhaps a gathering of super friends? Anyway, with the latest rumors suggesting the Green Lantern, John Stewart will be appearing played by Denzel Washington (!?!) and another saying it’ll be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wearing the green ring, it’s really just another week on the internet, isn’t it? As with all things circulating through the world of the Internetz (particularly those involving comic book films), please take this with a huge grain of salt.  There has been no official confirmation, but there is a slight buzz going on around the possibility of yet another famous Justice Leaguer being thrown into the Batman vs. Superman mix.  They’ve already got Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman on the table, so why not spice it up with a pinch of Green Lantern?

(Yes, this is from that superlatively nerdy Verizon commercial with the whole family in Star Wars costumes.)

As nerds of a “certain age” (I’m making the assumption that at least the majority of our readers are “legally” adults), it is our responsibility to ensure that the hallowed traditions of our subculture are passed down to the next generation. Younglings must be schooled in the ways of comics, sci-fi/fantasy, gaming (video and otherwise), pop culture, film and television, so that the Way of the Nerd will live on long after everyone reading this has become one with the Force…

And one of the best ways to achieve this is to utilize that nerdiest of all holidays: Halloween. (more…)

DC Comics has a lot going on these days and their bringing it all to SDCC 2013. One of the biggest announcements might be the addition of the first female Green Lantern from Earth. There’s always been plenty of alien ladies sporting those powerful green pieces of jewelry, but after DC Comics next big “52” style event Forever Evil, we’ll get to see an Earthling slip on the ring and state the oath, and it only took 73 years to get there.

Forever Evil is described on DC’s web page as:

The first universe-wide event of the New 52 begins as FOREVER EVIL launches! The Justice League is DEAD! And the villains shall INHERIT the Earth! An Epic tale of the world’s greatest super-villains starts here!

Here’s one of the teaser images floating around the Internet today:

DCFemaleLantern

There’s no doubt  that’s a female Green Lantern, but is she from Earth? We got teased about the first Earth woman to wear a lantern ring in Geoff JohnsGreen Lantern #20, pictured below. Just who is “Jessica Cruz” and what is so “controversial” about her powers? We’ll have to pick up the upcoming Forever Evil issues to find out.

DCFemaleLanternPanel

OK, Green Lantern Fanboys, I know, I know. Donna Parker was given a power ring in The Green Lantern Corps #4, and offered membership in the GL Corps, but remember, she turned it down. This would mark the first official Earth woman to wear the ring. We don’t know much about Jessica Cruz yet, just that some people in the DC Universe might have some issues with her having the ring and all that power.

Now, the real question, will anyone give a crap? Will this draw readers and sell comics? Are we going to see her boyfriend or significant other stuffed in a fridge?
