Guardians of the Galaxy
It’s been a few months now since Disney made the irrational, irresponsible, illogical, unintelligent, and emphatically BAD decision to give James Gunn the boot from directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, despite continuing to use his script. Many fans have discussed the other projects that Gunn could possibly direct – more than a few suggested he go to WB/DC. Now there are whispers that Gunn may be doing just that… Which movie could Gunn be directing? Which movie would you like to see him direct?
After the firing of James Gunn for, admittedly offensive, old tweets that Gunn already apologized for 6 years ago, many have been outspoken against Disney’s knee-jerk decision. But none have been quite as outspoken as Dave Bautista, Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. Bautista has, on frequent occasion, called Disney out for its rash and hasty decision to fire Gunn, calling for Gunn’s reinstatement and tweeting at Disney with tweets directing them to the man behind the movement to get Gunn fired, conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich.
A decade ago, Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn, made some offensive tweets and ran an offensive blog. About 6 years ago, he was called out on it by Tumblr users and The Mary Sue. This week the internet dragged it all back up. This time, the outcry was bigger. This time, despite already apologizing some years ago, actively working towards being a better person, his past bit Gunn in the ass – big time. What started the 2nd Coming of his offensive tweets? What fate did Gunn meet and how did he meet it?
Comic book movies utilizing music isn’t new. The scores for comic book movies have become legendary pieces that are instantly recognizable. Superman’s 1979 theme and Batman’s 1989 theme have become iconic. But in recent years, comic book movie makers have begun utilizing contemporary music to accent their movies. When done correctly, these pieces can hype a trailer, amp up a fight scene, or add emotion and depth to an intense series of scenes. Here’s a list of 6 songs that Hollywood used to perfect effect.
With the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War so close, we are all dying to get any hint of a clue as to the plot we’re all on hyper-alert for anything that remotely feels like a firm detail. And in the latest TV spot, there is a split-second flash of Iron Man and Star-Lord looking quite tense.
With Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 barely a week old, obviously it’s too early to be given a definitive release date for the third film in the trilogy. Besides, Marvel has tons of other superhero films to worry about over the next few years before Guardians gets another go, with Avengers: Infinity War on the horizon and all the storylines in orbit around it that need resolving before the big, explosive climax. But, let’s face it, Guardians of the Galaxy came out of nowhere and slammed audiences around the world right in the heart. (more…)
The wait is over. Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 has been released to theaters everywhere. Joyous is the sound of fans and general audiences, singing the praise of another smash hit from director James Gunn and co. It’s true. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 – albeit not as fresh and new as the first one and perhaps a little too big a spectacle for its own good – is way fun, warm (a lot of feels in this movie), and is everything going to the movies should be – a good time. While numbers are still rolling in, it saw $56 million at the box office on opening day, and is targeting a big $140 million weekend. Suffice to say, it delivered and is performing as well as everyone hoped it would. And no one is as thankful and as happy as the films director James Gunn.
Taking to Facebook earlier today, Gunn put out one of the sincerest and earnest thank you to fans, opening up about his time spent making the series, what influences both shaped and saved his life, and what box office success really means to him. (more…)
For a movie that is so broadly accessible to viewers of all ages, there is plenty in Guardians of the Galaxy and its recent sequel that appeals to the baser instinct of many hot blooded adults. Front man Chris Pratt went from being the awkward, chubby sidekick that was Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation to a smoking hot muscle-bound beast for this role. If he’s too lean for your taste, there’s always the throbbing bulk of Dave Bautista‘s Drax. The pair share the billing with easily one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, Zoe Saldana, who is no less stunning for being painted green from head to toe. (more…)
With Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 inching ever closer with every passing minute, tension is getting high and fans are falling over themselves to get involved in the pre-movie hype. Despite being one of the superhero movies that doesn’t go out of its way to blatantly sell merchandise, it would be a foolish idea on the part of the studio not to give us something. Being targeted more towards adults than kids, though, the merch they do come up with has to be of a far superior quality than the tat you can get away with giving to children. (more…)
If your Monday wasn’t already dark enough, this Marvel into DC trailer treatment for Guardians of the Galaxy should do the trick. It’s easy to imagine, can’t you just hear Jack Nicholson as Marvin Udall in As Good As It Gets saying, “I think of a movie, then I take away levity and whimsy.” Check out the trailer below, just hide any knives or sharp office instruments first.
