Guardians of the Galaxy

With Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 inching ever closer with every passing minute, tension is getting high and fans are falling over themselves to get involved in the pre-movie hype. Despite being one of the superhero movies that doesn’t go out of its way to blatantly sell merchandise, it would be a foolish idea on the part of the studio not to give us something. Being targeted more towards adults than kids, though, the merch they do come up with has to be of a far superior quality than the tat you can get away with giving to children. (more…)

If your Monday wasn’t already dark enough, this Marvel into DC trailer treatment for Guardians of the Galaxy should do the trick. It’s easy to imagine, can’t you just hear Jack Nicholson as Marvin Udall in As Good As It Gets saying, “I think of a movie, then I take away levity and whimsy.” Check out the trailer below, just hide any knives or sharp office instruments first. Volume 2 is almost here and Volume 3 has already been confirmed and Guardians of the Galaxy is easily one of Marvel‘s most surprising and successful cinematic ventures. Its popularity can be attributed to so many things. It is well cast and it has a great sense of humour and fans around the world fell madly in love with the soundtrack. It certainly helps that writer and director James Gunn treats the movie as a project of passion. He makes an effort to ensure that everything about it top quality, down to the tiniest and most missable Easter egg, and is never done just to pay lip service to fans or appease investors or advertisers. Given how close we finally are to seeing Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 finally hit screens, there is still a lot we don’t know about it. A pleasant change to the increasingly common trope of giving away an entire movie in the space of a minute long trailer, the build up to the new film is getting pretty tense as the studio slowly drips fans around the world snippets of information about what to expect. With just over a week to go, they’ve given us enough to get really excited about the movie – if you weren’t already – with plenty left shrouded in mystery that there are bound to be a ton of surprises in the cinema. Some eagle eyed fans thought they’d spotted Adam Warlock‘s famous cocoon in the Collector’s lair in Guardians of the Galaxy, and well, they were right. Director James Gunn later confirmed the cocoon to be Warlock’s. Gunn, however, had also said it wasn’t put there as a conscious decision to tease a future appearance – he just used it to dress the set and have it serve as one of those random easter eggs. While there were no initial plans to include Adam Warlock into the MCU, the character did eventually become part of Gunn’s plans.

It’s come out, that while scripting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Warlock was a big part of the story.  (more…)

With less than 17 days, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will hit theaters. The sequel to the 2014 Marvel Cinematic Universe surprise hit is expected to make a killing it’s opening weekend (minimum $150 million are some projections) and pretty much kickstarts the summer movie season. One very interesting thing about the movie is that James Gunn and the production crew have managed to keep most of the plot well hidden as most of the trailers did not give away “the whole” plot. We know a few details here and there for the film: Ego The Living Planet (Kurt Russell), Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) and The Ravagers will be in the film. But other than that, it’s an open book. There were rumors that Sylvester Stallone will be in the film in an unspecified role. Some suspected he would be an extra Ravager, and other rumors had him playing a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy from the 31st Century (probably Vance Astro). It looks like we now know who he may possibly be.

The eagerly anticipated second instalment in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie series comes out in just over a week. The first movie exploded onto screens in 2014 and gave more mature comic fans a movie that was definitely targeted at them long before Deadpool, with its occasionally crude humour, evident self-awareness and loveably unlikeable protagonists. Fans of all ages have been waiting for the sequel since it came out. The movie’s popularity meant that a lot of people looked forward to not just one further movie, but perhaps even a full series that explored this new galaxy with these badass heroes in more depth. In just one month, we will be treated to the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. This gives us a chance to catch up with Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians as they once again save the galaxy (to surely double their rates) and for Peter Quill to discover his true parentage. We have been treated with two awesome trailers for the upcoming MCU film, that surprisingly (and ally goodly) haven’t given much away plot-wise as director James Gunn said the footage that was shown in the trailer barely scratches the surface for what we are in to see. That doesn’t mean that we can’t have some fun with the trailers…

Since Iron Man exploded onto the silver screen in 2008 with a blast of jet boots and the swagger comic fans have come to expect of Tony Stark, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a serious force to be reckoned with in the movie industry. Now fourteen films in, in just twelve years, with the most recent movies – Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange – drawing in bigger audiences than ever, the superhero series shows no sign of slowing down as it powers through its third phase. There are currently plans for three new movies to add to the series each year until 2020. (more…)

baby-groot

For all the excitement flying around Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2, there has been one doe-eyed little face that has captured hearts across the nerd nation and beyond: Baby Groot. Without giving too much away just yet, the teaser trailers released so far have given us a glimpse into the next chapter in the Guardians story. It reintroduced the last movie’s hulking ent as an adorable sapling that manages to perfectly balance badassery with sheer baby cuteness. When you think about the way many movies are ruthlessly marketed these days, it’s not surprising that there are cynics out there who have assumed the new character was designed with merchandise in mind.
