Guillermo Del Toro

Justice League Dark

With Warner Bros. set on quickly expanding their DC Cinematic Universe, it comes as no surprise that more news is starting to surface regarding the future of Guillermo del Toro‘s movie adaptation of Justice League Dark. Having managed to juggle his fantastically busy schedule; writing and handing in a finished screenplay to the suits at Warner just before Christmas, this is by no means a transient money-grabber for the ever-proverbial workaholic. Guillermo has been working on the project alongside the studio for many years now, and it seems that both parties want to knock things into gear–or at least kick-start the creative engine. With no solidified release date in sight yet, we have news on potential characters who could be set to feature in the dark superhero franchise. (more…)

Guillermo and Carnival Row

Guillermo del Toro always has so many projects on the go at the same time that sometimes it’s darn hard to keep up with all of them. The guy is a prolific writer with a wild imagination that must be in constant overdrive; there is no doubt about it. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that some of these projects fade away into the background. However, if you are an avid fan of del Toro, you will know that he never gives up on a project entirely, no matter how long it has remained dormant. And, this has been the case with his pet project A Killing On Carnival Row, which he has been sitting on for almost a decade now, and it looks like the long-gestating film has found new lease of life as a TV show. It’s not long now until Guillermo del Toro delves back into his world of earth shattering Jaegers and Kaijus battling it out mano-a-mano in the follow-up to the international Box Office smash hit Pacific Rim. However, Toro is currently revisiting familiar territory with his latest Gothic romance Crimson Tide. The film, starring Tom Hiddleston (Thor: The Dark World), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Jessica Chastain (Interstellar), and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), is due out later this year, and we have promotional shots of three of its stars. Peter Jackson with Cam

The final installment of the Hobbit trilogyThe Battle of the Five Armies, has finally hit the U.S. theaters, and Peter Jackson has been doing the rounds to promote the movie, however, that’s not all he’s been talking about. It’s no secret that The Hobbit movies have received their fair share of criticism for myriad reasons; but one of the most ubiquitous critiques, has been Jackson‘s heavy reliance on CGI effects, as opposed to the practical effects that he used in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. However, coming off the back of these criticisms, Jackson has been ruffling feathers in the contemporary movie-making world with his critique on the state of the industry today; the Hollywood zeitgeist if you like, and it’s all rather dumbfounding indeed. Hellboy and the BPRD

Are we ever going to see a third Hellboy movie? Ron Perlman is in, Guillermo del Toro is in, …but what about Mike Mignola? It seems it will be a cold day in hell before we see a third installment (…wait, isn’t Hellboy residing in the deep south at the moment?!), but never say never. With the new release of  comic book series Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. (out today), creator Mike Mignola is doing the rounds promoting Hellboy’s latest adventures (or should’t that be earlier adventures…) and rest assured, you will not be disappointed with the antihero’s origin story, which essentially covers the unexplored 50 years from his first missions with the B.P.R.D. up until the start of the original comic. Justice League Dark

Talk about a Guillermo del Toro overload?! (click to read our article on the Pacific Rim sequel here). Looks like the executives over at Warner Bros. are in for a treat at the weekend. While most people will be kicking back in front of the TV with a cold beer, or a glass of vino after a long hard slog at work, or perhaps heading out en masse to catch a certain trailer? (Star Wars: The Force Awakens anyone?), execs at Warner have their weekends sorted. Guillermo del Toro has confirmed he has finished his script for the tentatively planned movie adaptation of Justice League Dark and  handed it over to Warner for a planned weekend read. (more…)

Charlie Day and Burn Gorman

Guillermo del Toro is a busy man with a great work ethic it seems. With his recent announcement that he has finished and handed in the script for Warner Bros. tentatively proposed Justice League Dark adaptation, and having wrapped filming for his next directorial feature Crimson Peak (set for an October 17 2015 release), now – during promotional rounds for the DVD and Blu-ray release of FX’s The Strain – he has also been discussing the Pacific Rim 2 script that he has been developing (…does this man ever sleep, seriously?!). Guillermo has been elaborating on some plot details for the follow-up to the International Kaiju smashing blockbuster hit Pacific Rim, and it sound like we are going to be seeing more of Charlie Day’s Dr. Newton Geiszler, and Burn Gorman’s Gottlieb. Jeffrey Tambor Still Game for ‘Hellboy 3’

hellboytambor

Hellboy II: The Golden Army came out in 2008, and six years later it’s still not even a 50 per cent certainty that we may ever see a Hellboy 3. Six years between sequels isn’t a big number, there have been literally decades between entries in other movie series, but with two movies that had lukewarm receptions at the box office, and a never ending pile of projects on director Guillermo del Toro‘s plate, it seems increasingly unlikely that Hellboy 3 is going to become a reality. So is all hope lost? Maybe not, because while Hellboy star Ron Perlman remains the biggest cheerleader for more HB, other actors from the cast are letting it be known that they’re ready, willing an able. (more…)

QUIET

When gaming titan Hideo Kojima announced to his family and friends that he wanted a career in video games, they gave him that stern look of disapproval that I’ve seen way too often myself. An economics major at the time, Kojima was a gamer and felt that he could make a fulfilling life for himself in the industry. When those who loved him didn’t believe in him, he turned a dream into a dream job. The rest of the story is well known to fans, and everyone else should look no further than his stellar ‘Metal Gear Solid’ series. And we’ve got the trailer for his upcoming entry ‘Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain’ as well as his tag team effort with crazy filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro: ‘Silent Hills.’ Clickity click! (more…)
