Would They Ever Kill Gwen Cooper in ‘Torchwood’? Eve Myles Thinks–

- 02-03-12TV Posted by Sarah Moran

While the future of Torchwood is still up in the air after a disappointing fourth season, fans haven’t stopped speculating on the fates of the team’s only remaining original members, Gwen Cooper and Captain Jack Harkness. It would obviously be suicide for the show to kill of Captain Jack, so that only leaves Ms. Cooper. Could it happen?

Eve Myles seems confidant it couldn’t and simply wouldn’t happen. Then again, I’d be just as positive if my character’s life was on the line.

No, I don’t. And I am looking at it as an outsider. Every year, you’re expecting to turn to page 16, and go, oh I’ve been shot in the face. You just expect it, it’s Torchwood. But no. I don’t think so.

I think they’ve really developed that character into a fantastic everyday hero. I don’t think that it would be right to take somebody like her out of the equation.

She said the above in an interview with Den of Geek, discussing Torchwood‘s future, and adding, “This happens every time! All the time! There was never going to be a second, there was never going to be a third … ” Myles went on to even hint at a Torchwood movie.

Uh-huh, yeah. Premiering right after that Doctor Who movie. I hear David Yates is looking into it.

Anyway, back to Gwen possibly being offed, Den of Geek suggested it might be tougher for Gwen to keep living than to die, to which Myles responded,

Yes, absolutely. She lives, especially from when Ianto died, in complete guilt. And she loses people around her all the time. It’s always the ones who are left behind who suffer. So I don’t think they’d kill her off. But saying that, we never knew that Tosh, and Owen, and Ianto, Alexa, they would be killed off. It depends on what story [Russell] wants to tell. If he tells the story of, in the first scene, Gwen gets shot in the face, and it’s then backstory …

She then adds in that if she were to die, “she’s going to die fantastically.” So, there you go. If she dies it’ll be in a blaze of glory and hopefully not anywhere near as heartbreakingly sad as Ianto’s death.

What do you think the odds are if Torchwood returns we’d see Gwen die?

More ‘Torchwood’ Coming Eventually Says Gwen Cooper

- 01-26-12TV Posted by Adam A. Donaldson

I think we can all agree that Torchwood: Miracle Day was, um, underwhelming. (Trying to be diplomatic, here.) But I think we can also all agree that we want to see more of the alien-fighting Doctor Who spin-off series, preferably with actual aliens, and preferably without the Rolodex of the famous faces of sci-fi that comes from filming in Hollywood.

Gwen Cooper herself, Eve Myles, is chiming in about the future of the show, and while she acknowledges that nothing will probably happen in 2012 (a combination of creator Russell T. Davies‘ schedule and the fact that his partner has cancer), that doesn’t mean there won’t be more Torchwood down the road. Here’s what Myles told Cult Box:

“As far as I know at the moment, everything’s still very much on hold. Russell [T Davies] has things happening in his personal life.

“John [Barrowman] is very much on the same page as me, in that if and when they need us, they can just pick the phone up and we will be there before they’ve even put the phone down, because it’s something we love doing.

“Nothing’s going to happen in 2012, I know that much for sure. But who knows what will happen in 2013. Maybe a movie, to kinda draw a line under it.

“That’s the thing about Torchwood, every series we’ve changed our format. We’ve always had a gap in between, so fingers crossed, because we’ve got such an outstanding loyal fan base. They deserve Torchwood to go ahead with something else to draw a line under it, for the fans to have a bit of closure.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I’d love more Torchwood (newly immortal Rex Matheson optional).

What say you, Bastards?

‘Torchwood’ Episode 3: Dark Thoughts and Sexy Times

- 07-23-11TV Posted by Adam A. Donaldson

When he last left Torchwood, Captain Jack Harkness, the last mortal man in a world made immortal, was almost poisoned to death by Sierra from Dollhouse. CIA boss Newman had black-bagged Rex Matheson and Esther Drummond, making them fugitives from the CIA. Then, when Torchwood survivors Jack and Gwen Cooper touched down in the U.S., they escaped from CIA custody with Rex and Esther. From the back seat of the getaway car Gwen says with a hint of glee, “Welcome to Torchwood.” Scene. We’ll get into this week’s episode after the jump. (It’s bigger on the inside, you know.)

‘Torchwood: Miracle Day’ Sneak Peak Reminds Us How Much We’ve Missed Captain Jack

- 06-28-11TV Posted by Sarah Moran

Captain Jack Harkness is finally returning to television. He’s been long absent with no appearance in Doctor Who since Matt Smith stepped out of the Tardis and his own series, Torchwood has been off air since Children on Earth in 2009. The surviving members of the team, Captain Jack (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) return July 8th with Torchwood: Miracle Day on Starz.

With this eagerly awaited premiere all most here Starz has released an awesome 11-minute preview. Including great action, touching moments and tons of drama (as well as an odd intense, movie trailer voice over) this teaser has everything to bring you up to speed with the Torchwood team. Having made the switch to Starz for U.S. viewers, Miracle Day is presented as a good jumping on point for series n00bs and this sneak peak fills you in on Jack and Gwen if they’re unfamiliar. Of course, fans know the real skinny on Jack because, sadly, this promo leaves the fun parts of his history out. Which is kind of surprising, since one, the show is on Starz and two, sex sells.

Joining Barrowman and Myles are “CIA agent Rex Matheson (played by ER‘s Mekhi Phifer), his partner Esther Drummond (Alexa Havins), Dr. Vera Juarez (Arlene Tur), convicted killer Osward Danes (Bill Pullman) and Jilly Kitzinger (Lauren Ambrose).”

Watch the 11-minute sneak peak below and let us know how excited you are for Torchwood to return. Has the wait been worth it?
