Gwen Stacy

The new animated Spider-Man movie trailer has been a pretty big hit. With 16M views on YouTube in a matter of days since the official trailer released. Several familiar names, or rather voices, star in the movie. But who are all the names behind the masks we see in the trailer? The casual Spider-Fan may not be familiar with the new Spider-Man on the big screen or the other faces featured in the trailer. NerdBastards is here to help break down the names and actors that will bring Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse to life.

Ash Williams: Groovy S-Mart employee with a penchant for boomsticks and mad DIY prosthetics skills. Also, unlikely hero from the sky, fated to stop the Deadite invasion. Pretty much the spirit of the 80’s b-horror movie flick. Lobo: Space biker with a short fuse, and an anti-grav motorcycle. Hangs out with a school of space dolphins. Has fought Wolverine and made it to the second round. Functionally immortal, with the capacity to infinitely reproduce from each drop of his own spilt blood. Each of them is a smug anti-hero with an almost fanatical cult following among the most gung-ho nerds.

Once, they were separated by vast gulfs of time and space, each occupying his Universe of origin. That is, until Brian Rosenthal, the director behind the 2013 fan film Marvel Zombies VS Army Of Darkness thought otherwise. After  holding his own against zombie-Wolverine and narrowly escaping a super-zombie infested New York,  Ash Williams has broken into a brand new universe, also overwhelmed by the undead and filled to the brim with horror-themed cameos!

Wolverine can only hope to have this much fun while he’s dead. Gwenpool started out as a truly inspired mashup cosplay of Gwen Stacy and Deadpool at the San Diego Comic-con. The pink-powered merc quickly went viral, becoming official with appearances in titles like Howard the Duck and the Gwenpool Holiday Special.

Of all the “failicious”, yeah I just made that word up, Spider iterations over the last 8 years that we have dealt with and are set to deal with in the future; this Spider-Gwen trailer puts some fresh-air into the story, that it sorely needed.  But here is the kicker….it’s fan-made. Weep tears as you watch the craftily edited trailer below.

Fans of the Amazing Spider-Man and the many comic series that the character has made his way through know that the character of Gwen Stacy is not one that lasts for very long in the Marvel Universe. But while Gwen meets an untimely end in the comics, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the same fate awaits her in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Still, one has to wonder what’s going to happen. Now, the actress who plays Gwen Stacy, Emma Stone, has stepped up and said a few things about Stacy’s potential fate in the franchise. Scroll on for more. (more…)

It was just yesterday that we got our first look at The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s Green Goblin, in the form of a bust statue. Now, I know, it wasn’t very clear, and who wants to see a blurry picture of a sculpture of a movie character? That’s right, no one! Without further ado, check out this new screen from TASM2 featuring Gobby himself. (more…)

The Amazing Spider-Man

So, uh, spoiler alert? Damn right!

For months we’ve been hearing about who’s in Amazing Spider-Man 2, and who might be playing them, and now, courtesy of Comic Book Movie, we get some cool details hot off the press. So spoilers revealed in…

Still here? You asked for it. Let’s take these one at a time

-Electro played by Jamie Foxx, will not being wearing the character’s traditional yellow and green outfit. Look for Foxx to sport something a little more stylish, like Electro’s Ultimate Spider-Man duds. Also, as if you didn’t know, Electro’s alterego Max Dillon will be gainfully employed as an employee at Oscorp.

-That Venom rumor? Forget about it! That morgue shot released last month wasn’t a Venom reference, but rather the morgue is where Dillon is taken after his “accident,” presumably the same “accident” that turns him into Electro.

-We know Chris Cooper‘s been cast as Norman Osborn, but there won’t be any Green Goblin in the film. What there will be is lots of foreshadowing, and that, at the beginning of the film at least, Norman won’t be cured and is still dying from his mysterious illness.

-And the biggest spoiler of all, sources confirm that Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) will indeed being going to the giant comic book store in the sky by the film’s end, perhaps even sooner than that. In fact, sources are saying that Stone may not have a very big role in the film at all.

So Bastards, are you intrigued yet? Sound off below.

Since it would be nigh on impossible to discuss what could happen to Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel without discussing what actually happens to Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man comics, I’ll warn you this post contains spoilers. Of course, these are 40 year old spoilers, but I’m trying to be nice and not ruin it for folks who maybe haven’t read up on all of Spider-Man’s past.

So what does happen to Gwen Stacy in the comics? She dies, in one of the most heart wrenching deaths in comics. Thrown off a bridge by the Green Goblin, Peter attempts to save her by casting his webs and grabs her foot, in the process snapping her neck from the sudden stop. Her death is a especially remarkable because she’s also managed to stay dead. Something comic book fans should know is basically impossible to achieve.

With the rebooted Amazing Spider-Man movie choosing Stacy over Mary Jane as Peter’s love interest, everyone assumed this would be the story we’d see play out between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Not so, as come the end of Amazing Spider-Man, Stacy was still alive and no mention had been made of the Green Goblin. Naturally, the sequel would explore this tragedy, right?

Maybe. Dane DeHaan has been cast as Harry Osborn and, in a minor role, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, so it would seem the pieces are being set for Stacy’s tragic fall. But when asked by MTV News about the possibility Stacy would die in the sequel, Stone replied,Will she? Is it up to you? Did you write the script? Did you ghost-write the script?

In the past, Stone has been quite open and upfront about discussing her character’s assumed eventual fate and showed a willingness to stick to the original premise. What’s changed her mind? Will the movies take a different route and leave Stacy alive, or is she for sure being killed off and that’s why Stone is keeping mum? Will they follow the death as its laid out in the comics or come up with something new? Let us know what you think.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to release May 2nd, 2014.
