Terrible and obvious puns aside, Lucasfilm has made it official today, Woody Harrelson is joining the cast of the upcoming, untitled Han Solo movie, the second Star Wars Story film to follow-up on the tremendous success of Rogue One. Although it’s been rumored for a couple of weeks now, Harrelson now joins an already impressive cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke who will tell the previously unknown (canonically anyway) true story of how Han Solo became the best swindler in the galaxy and the legendary captain of the Millennium Falcon. With the success of the first “Non-Saga” Star Wars film, Rogue One, Lucasfilm is starting to look towards their next spin-off, the untitled Han Solo film. The upcoming film will focus on a younger Han Solo before he teamed up with Luke, Leia, and the gang to save the galaxy. When he was just a smuggler dealing with the underworld of the Star Wars universe. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, and will star Alden Ehrenreich as the younger Han Solo and Donald Glover as a younger Lando Calrissian. The film is set to start filming soon for a planned May 2018 release date. However, it looks like that date may be changing.
It was just a short while ago that Donald Glover‘s (Community) name had been dropped as a front-runner to play a young Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars Han Solo Spin-off. At the time, most shrugged it off as an Internet rumor. Glover himself even acknowledged it saying ” Yep. There are rumors”. Turns out, he was playing coy, and the Internet, in its Magic 9-ball knowledge, got this one right. Star Wars.com confirmed, that yes, Glover will playing smooth-talking smuggler, Lando Calrissian.
You hear that? That’s the sound of a billion nerds jizzing themselves in unison.
Wasn’t Harrison Ford great in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, everyone? A legendary actor once again playing his most legendary role. But while Ford accepts praise for his portrayal of the older, but not remotely frail, Han Solo, the corporate overlords that own the rights to the character at Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company are currently looking for a younger model Han Solo to star in the second standalone Star Wars movie following Rogue One. From many, comes one, or at least in this case a dozen or so. Sources are telling one Hollywood trade that there’s now a short list for the new Han Solo, and the reason for the immediacy of casting the part may be surprising. (more…)
The last few months have been filled with super hero news, all the latest rumors about your favorite Marvel and DC franchises as they make their way from the page to the screen. It’s been prolific enough that many may have even forgotten the news that was dominating earlier this year, that of Disney’s upcoming Star Wars projects. Aside from J.J. Abrams spearheading the assault with Episode VII and a few writing credits, there’s been little new to learn. Now, a few more details have slipped between the cracks about what we might expect from Star Wars over the next few years.
First and foremost, it looks like the running plan is to start with Episode VII in 2015 and then to jump back and forth with release dates to accommodate the Episode #s and the spin-off projects. The first couple of spin-offs also appear to be on the table as least as far as subjects go.
One of the first will revolve around Han Solo and Chewie in their younger years. You know, back when they cruised the galaxy bringing in the dollar bills and chasing tail. Well, maybe Disney won’t put quite that spin on it, but you get the idea.
The second will be about none-other-than the 10-minutes of fame character himself, Boba Fett. Unfortunately, there are no details on what they wish to do with that project yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see. I imagine bounties will be involved somehow.
Also, it looks like Disney is putting together another Star Wars animated TV series, this one entitled Star Wars: Rebels. Bringing together new faces and old, the series is said to follow the rise of the Rebel Alliance, detailing how they came to be the formidable force that we first meet in Episode IV.
It looks like we have a long future of Star Wars ahead of us folks, so let’s hope the start with a bang and continue to impress as the years go on.
Thanks to ComicBookMovie for the heads-up.
