All aboard the Magic Bastard Bus, students! We’re going to SPACE! That’s right, those nerdy bastards as NASA have gone where every nerd has wanted to go before – etching some of Nerdkind’s favorite things into the stars themselves in the form of constellations! From comic books to sci-fi, NASA has added a list of unofficial constellations to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. The telescope’s mission covers a range of different functions, but in relation to the constellations, Fermi observes Gamma-rays, unseen by the naked eye. Scientists have made new discoveries based on their findings, being able to see into the past by observing Gamma-rays from further away. But what pop-culture references made it into the night sky and more importantly – how do we know where they are?
In a genre dominated by male counterparts, female sidekicks are nothing new. Marvel Editor and Chief Axel Alonso tweeted out a new image today titled Batch H. The entire image, which you can see after the jump, quickly brings to mind that quote from Jurassic Park: Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should. We’ll leave that question for you to decide, but it could be a fascinatingly fun new character if done well. (more…)
After months of disappointed tourists being unable to ride, The Incredible Hulk roller coaster is back and more pissed off than ever. Last September, the big green giant closed for a massive refurbishment. After sixteen years of thrilling park guests, Universal Studios figured that it was about time the attraction got a face-lift. Everything from the track to the trains to even the entrance would get a fresh coat of paint and give riders a relatively new ride experience to the same track layout. So after nearly a year of fine-tuning and fixing up the ride, how do the new changes hold up? Let’s find out. (more…)
Mark Ruffalo has just finished filming on the set of Thor: Ragnarok and had some great pictures and words to celebrate. The described buddy adventure between Rufflao’s Hulk and Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor is reported to draw heavily from the Planet Hulk story line that fans have been clamoring for since the first Avengers movie hit the big screen. Aside from Ruffalo’s kind words he also shared a few behind the scenes pictures with co-star Hemsworth that reveal a hairstyle change for the actor and his Asgardian double. (more…)
One of the films on the horizon for Marvel is the highly anticipated Thor: Ragnarok, which will end the trilogy of solo Thor movies. It’s been rumored that not only will The Incredible Hulk (as popularly played by Mark Ruffalo) be appearing in the film, but that a good portion of the film’s story will be adapted from the Planet Hulk comic story-arc, in which the Hulk becomes champion, and then ruler, of a super-powered gladiatorial planet in the far reaches of space. Well, something just arrived at SDCC that seems to confirm this story once and for all. (more…)
‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is still nearly a year-and-a-half before it’s released and we already have been receiving great info for this third film in the Thor franchise. It’s been almost two weeks since the confirmation of several additions to the cast, including Cate Blanchett (Hela), Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster), Karl Urban (Skurge), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/The Hulk confirmed to appear. Marvel‘s latest mobile game, Marvel’s Avengers Academy is out and has some interestingly well-known folks voicing the characters. There’s Colton Haynes (Arrow) as Thor, Dave Franco (Neighbors) as Iron Man, Alison Brie (Community) as Black Widow, and wrestler John Cena as the Hulk. That’s right, John Cena is the voice of the Hulk. Cereal is an important part of childhood. Together with certain television shows, music, and movies, cereal helps to form a very specific backdrop to your formative years. This backdrop is unique to you, but connects you to nearly every other person of your generation, no matter the other details of your lives. Yes, cereal binds us, connects us, shows us that we are all one. But it also has an almost magical ability to transport. When you’re eating cereal with your favorite characters on the box, you hold palaver with them for a time. These characters become real as you share a meal with them. Some cereals not only understood the light-hearted whimsy of our youth, but also understand that now we have grown-up responsibilities and obligations. We’ve seen things, man. We have bills to pay. We wear underwear without cartoons characters on them sometimes, probably. These cereals know that and have increased in value accordingly, so that they can continue to be there for us as we sell them for money. Our modern Giving Tree was ground up and pressed into cardboard to make cereal boxes. And the tree was happy. It was happy because it knew that cash rules everything around us and it’s going to help us get the money. Dolla, dolla bill, y’all!
