Because Anything Can Be Made Into a Movie, Prepare for ‘Angry Birds’

- 12-11-12Film Posted by Adam A. Donaldson

Do you like playing Angry Birds on your mobile device? That’s nice. Well how about going to your local multiplex to see Angry Birds the Movie? Before you say anything – too late! – it’s already in development.

The epic three year battle between the eponymous splenetic fowl and their arch-nemesis the pigs (yeah, I don’t get it either) will soon be translated to the big screen courtesy of producer John Cohen (Despicable Me) and executive producer David Maisel (Iron Man). Rovio Entertainment, the developer behind Angry Birds the game, will be making the film in house under its new animation banner that they hired Maisel to shepherd last year.

Cohen, meanwhile, brings considerable animation experience with him to the film. At Fox he worked under the Blue Sky shingle and helped develop hits like Ice Age, Robots, and Horton Hears a Who before going to Universal and producing the hit Despicable Me. So I’m sure he’s more than capable of developing some kind of narrative out of the game. Otherwise the plot will go something like this.

When a bunch of pigs do… something… somebody gets their sling shot and fires birds at them. But, you know angry birds. And sometimes they have powers. Or are Star Wars themed. Uh, the end.

Angry Birds is looking to be released in theaters sometime in 2016, when either we’ve all gotten over it or it will be as ubiquitous as computer solitaire.

The Real Samuel L. Jackson iPhone Ad

- 04-22-12Funny Videos Posted by Jason Tabrys

By now we’ve all seen Samuel L. Jackson making gespatcho (not hot-spatcho) on date night with the help of his trusty iPhone assistant Siri (hey, at least he doesn’t need his cell phone to help him identify rain or be quirky). The ad is, to say the least, contrary to the way most of us envision Mr. Jackson while he’s at home — unarmed and less shouty and expletive laden than he typically is on the big screen — because, after-all, every actor is exactly the same in real life as they are when they’re acting.

Luckily, the folks from Slackstory felt the need to fix this egregious error and show us the “real” Sam Jackson Siri ad.

Warning: stay the fuck away from this video if you are offended by cursing.

This short film entitled, ‘Death of a Ghostbuster’ raises some really important questions. Like, when they capture ghosts that aren’t harming anyone are they just condemning them to some kind of horrible purgatory like existence? That’s harsh, man. (You Bent My Wookie)

Are You Lost in ‘Arkham City’? There’s an App for That

- 10-24-11Videogames Posted by Sarah Moran

Let’s be honest, being Batman is hard. While you’re out on the town investigating, looking for clues you can get jumped by gangs of roving thugs, or worse, be distracted by saving some chick the newest super villain’s tied up some 100 feet in the air. Then you have to try and solve the Riddler’s stupid riddles while your head is pounding from the fire extinguisher some douche threw at you. Sometimes it’s nice to have a little help. Thank you, Batman: Arkham City Official Map App.

Available on all iOS devices the $2.99 app can not only help you find your way around Arkham City, but also, “Find every Riddler Trophy for Batman & Catwoman,” “Solve every Riddle,” and “Track your progress as you bag more than 350 collectibles.” I mean, only if you’d like a little assistance. You are the world’s greatest detective and solving such things on your own is breeze.

Oops, Nevermind, ‘The Avengers’ Was NOT Shot With an iPhone

- 10-24-11Film Posted by Sarah Moran

Sorry, guys. I know you all had dreams of creating the next smash hit superhero flick on your new 4S because, “If it worked for The Avengers, than why not me?” But, I’m going to shit all over that nerdy dream right here and now. Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey was misquoted when it was reported he had filmed portions of The Avengers with an iPhone.

I was talking about how up and coming film makers have access to a whole range of new technologies which expand our options as filmmakers. I mentioned that the iPhone and the Canon 5d Mk2 were devices currently used on many Hollywood productions. I used the Canon on some shots on Marvel’s The Avengers movie. Unfortunately, this was edited to read that I shot some of the film with the iPhone. This is not true.

This whole nasty rumor began when McGarvey was interview by the Irish Film & Television Network, which then reported it as,

The beauty of photography or cinema is that you make every choice based on the content at hand. On The Avengers, I did a couple of shots on the iPhone and they are in the movie. In fact, they are in the trailer! I understand that sometimes there is no choice and you have to go for the cheapest option, but if you are limited for choice, you can still make poignant decisions that will effect the look of the film.

Oops. Hey, we all make mistakes. It’s just a part of journalism to sometimes post completely untrue statements.

And, y’know what? Your little film making fantasy isn’t dead, just understand being armed with a fancy camera phone won’t guarantee your film will kick ass like Captain America. Unless your thinking of the “classic” from 1990, then, yeah, go for it.

Exclusive! Sneak Preview of Think Geek’s Next Batch of Awesome Nerdy Things

- 04-01-11Cool Stuff, WTF? Posted by Sarah Moran

Think Geek is the top purveyor of the geeky goods that keep us nerds humming along at a happy pace. Whether it be t-shirts, gadgets or bacon flavored…well…everything, Think Geek provides. This year’s newest batch of products is top notch. Announced today, here’s the skinny on all the new gizmos and treats Think Geek will be selling out of by day’s end.

Hey, did you get it? Today is April 1st, better known as April Fool’s Day, making all of these awesome goodies hoaxes, pranks, fake-outs, but still great examples of things we’d love to see Think Geek selling in the future. And it could happen! Popular products like the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag and the iCade all began as April Fool’s Day pranks. Whose to say the same couldn’t happen with these hilarious ideas,

Angry Birds Pork Rinds are the ultimate in high protein snacking. Since the only other green meat we’ve encountered has been a breakfast meat paired with green eggs, we’re calling these “The Other Green Meat.” Much like green ham, you can eat Angry Birds Pork Rinds here or there. You can eat them anywhere. You can eat them with Red Leader. You can eat them from a bird feeder. You can eat them on a date. You can eat them on a Shirt Plate!

These crispy delicacies were painstakingly collected from the wreckage of exploded green pig flesh by the Pork Remnants Collectors Union 1337. After a bath in a vat of boiling oil, they are seasoned to perfection and packaged in snack sized bags. Break one open and taste the crisp, salty, savory flavor that only green pigs can produce. A truly succulent treat for the discerning mobile gamer.

So when we spotted this amazing Apple Store Playset from PLAYMOBIL™ we were admittedly in a bit of a conundrum. On the one hand, it’s a product designed for children much younger than ourselves. On the other hand, it’s a tiny representation of the store which sells us all the shiny Apple goodies we can’t resist. Then we noticed that the PLAYMOBIL™ iStore includes amazingly tiny iPhones, Macbooks, and iPads. Our resolve began to waver. A quick peek at the miniature Genius Bar and we were feeling a bit woozy. Then we saw the tiny Steve Jobs presenting in the Keynote Theater on the top floor and that was it. Our wallets popped out faster than you can say Jonathan Ive and we plunked down whatever money was needed to own this amazing playset.

Of course, once we had the playset, we had to get the optional Line Pack to simulate our own exciting Apple product launches. Since it comes with a tiny Woz on a tiny Segway, it was a no-brainer. We decided that Apple & PLAYMOBIL™ together is the most unlikely and awesome collaboration ever. It changes everything.

Visit Think Geek’s homepage to indulge yourself in all their April Fool’s Day products like De-3D Cinema Glasses, Edible Gummy iPhone Cases, Star Wars Lightsaber Popsicles and an Arsenic Based Sea Monkey kit. See something you really like and wish you could buy it? Think Geek is listening! Just click Buy It Now and you’ll be whisked away to a page where you can cast your vote for what product you’d like to see become a reality. Like I mentioned earlier, some of our favorites started as pranks. So get voting, I want a Chocolate Zombie Bunny this Easter!

Mind = BLOWN! Check Out This ‘Word Lens’ iPhone App

- 12-17-10Cool Stuff, Tech Posted by Thomas Landry

WordLens_08

My mind is seriously blown by this app. The folks over at Quest Visual released an iPhone app called Word Lens and all I can say is wow. The app instantly translates text real time and all you need is your iPhone and the app. The phone doesn’t need to be connected to the internet for it to work. All you have to do is just place the phone over the text and BOOM it works.

This just amazes me as I have done many translation projects and having a tool like this is just fucking amazing! Unfortunately, being the poor fat ass that I am, I am not able to play around with this app, but if you would like to check this app out, head on over to iTunes and download it.

While the app only translate Spanish to English and vice versa, I can only imagine the magic it will use when it comes to Japanese or Russian in the future. Seriously, check the video out and see if this doesn’t blow your mind like it has with mine.
