Shortly after the release of the novel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, author J.K. Rowling revealed that the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Albus Dumbledore, was gay. There wasn’t a lot of time in the books, or the movies, to explore Dumbledore’s personal life, past or present, but since young Dumbledore will have a part in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise, perhaps the door will be open to exploring Albus’ love life. The question was put to Rowling, who is penning the Fantastic Beasts screenplays, as to whether or not Dumbledore’s love life will get some limelight in the sequel.  (more…)

In less than a month, the bold new chapter of the Harry Potter franchise begins with the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie. In the beginning there was doubt that the proverbial and literal magic would be able to be carried on into a Harry Potter world before there was a Harry Potter, but the trailers and promotion have all done a lot to say to the fans that this is the same world you know and love, just some of the pieces are different. All that’s owed to Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who’s writing the screenplay for the new film series, but from the sounds of things, she’s not stopping at a trilogy. (more…)

Though it is far more than most series ever get, seven novels, a collection of short stories, two World Book Day spin off books and eight movies is not enough to satiate the nerd cravings of the Harry Potter fandom. A musical set ten years after the books has been playing in London all summer and is sold out for its entire run, with the script published as a book flying off the shelves all over the world. The new film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, due in cinemas in November this year, is the next new foray into the magical world. (more…)

Long before the birth of the Boy Who Lived, long before the rise of the dark wizard You Know Who and his Death Eaters, the wizarding world was nonetheless as exciting and secretive a place as it is today. Hidden away from the muggles of Britain and the nomajes of America, wizards and witches the world over led exciting lives of exploration and discovery, spells and sorcery. With Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them just over the horizon – due in cinemas on November 18th – we are very soon to learn about the lives they led in a world many decades before Harry Potter. FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM

If you’ve been following J.K Rowling and all her magical stories, you know that her whimsical world is coming to life again on the big screen this fall in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Warner Bros. has already released a couple of trailers for the film that confirm that it will carry over the look and feel of the eight previous Harry Potter movies, but we haven’t really seen much about these titular Fantastic Beasts yet. In the midst of a summer trend with a video game that lets you seek out various creatures and capture them, let’s see what Rowling has in mind when she sends Newt Scamander out to “catch ’em all” later this year

As the Olympics continue into their second half this week, a surprise TV spot dropped in the form of a Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trailer. The film has been the driving force behind a (thus far successful) public interest revival of JK Rowling‘s Wizard World, made famous by the Harry Potter series of novels. Fantastic Beasts will cap off a lead up that included theme park attractions, an enormous Pottermore update, and a play/book release combo. If you would like to check out the trailer, continue after the jump. (more…)

Last night, a new Harry Potter story came out to the masses in book stores, albeit in a different format than what we had come to know and love; Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the official eighth story starring The Boy Who Lived is, as you’re probably already aware, a stage-play script released in book format. Despite the unconventional format, people are very excited for more Harry Potter stories to dive into all the same. However, people had been wondering if there was even more stories untold from the lightning scarred English wizard in our future… well, Potter-author J.K. Rowling recently gave us an answer.  (more…)

The Warner Bros stage at Sand Diego Comic Con would have been sorely lacking if they didn’t give us some glimpse of all the return to J K Rowling‘s globally beloved magical world. The all new angle from which upcoming movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will approach the wizarding world – taking place in a different time and country than the Harry Potter books and films released so far – has been on every avid Potterhead’s tongue since it was first announced way back in September 2013. J.K. Rowling-written and David Yates-directed Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has one factor going for it that Rowling’s other Harry Potter-related endeavors don’t: it’s not bound creatively to any other previous work. Rowling did write a companion book to her Potter stories titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, fictitiously penned by a Newt Scamander, but other than that the movie is completely original unto itself. Yates enthuses on how much easier this makes the editing process, knowing there won’t be hordes of angry fans upset that his vision didn’t meet theirs. (more…)
