j.k. rowling

While the Harry Potter films have come to pass, the magic of J.K. Rowling’s world lives on. There’s the always thrilling adventures of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studio theme parks. On the horizon – the much anticipated HP spin-off movie the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them; as well as the Harry Potter 2 part stage show. Now, another HP experience is about to send fans on a tizzy.

According to Mashable, fans of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world as it appeared in the movies have a once an a lifetime opportunity to eat Christmas dinner in Hogwarts’ Great Hall this year! (more…)

The Harry Potter franchise is continuing the trend they set with their movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows– splitting one story into a two-parter.  This could potentially be completely understandable, if the subject matter was so complex that it warranted such a detailed retelling, but it seems that more and more franchises are following this lead simply to get more buck for their bang, if you will.  J.K. Rowling is re-using her dollar doubling formula with her stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which debuts in London next year.  She took to twitter to share the news: (more…)

J.K. Rowling doesn’t have to write another word the rest of her life and Harry Potter fans wouldn’t really be able to complain, but that’s what writers do, they write. You can be sure that once Rowling finished that last Potter novel she told herself that she’d never go back, yet she finds herself dipping her toes back in the Potter Pool at Pottermore. This time around she’s penned a history of the Potter family, where the name came from and other interesting things that happened to the Potter Clan. (more…)

Millions of fans reached the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and thought, “I wonder what comes next for Harry and friends?” The book’s epilogue offers some insight, but there was still an 18 year gulf between the Battle of Hogwarts and the gang seeing their kids off on the Hogwarts’ Express. Pottermore‘s tried to fill in some of those blanks a couple of thousand words at a time, but let’s cut the chase, wouldn’t it be nice to have another Harry Potter movie with an adult Harry, Ron and Hermoine having an adventure as twentysomethings? It turns out that filmmaker Chris Columbus has had the same thought. (more…)

Franchises are the bread and butter for Hollywood these days, which is why the development of something like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is seen as an incredibly cynical move on the part of a studio. This spin-off of the wizarding world of Harry Potter could be seen as the most egregious example of lack of Hollywood imagination, trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear by further expanding a 7-part book series that’s already been made into 8 movies. (Eight highly profitable movies, that is.) On the other hand, Harry Potter’s was such a vividly realized world, and though Harry’s story is over, it feels like their was so much left unexplored. Combined with the involvement of Potter creator J.K. Rowling, there’s lots of room to hope that Fantastic Beasts might be good after all. But who will search out these creatures? We now have some ideas. (more…)

Social media has been a great tool in general, but where as once getting in touch with our favorite artists and celebrities required writing a letter, sticking it in the mail and a) hoping that it makes it to its destination in tact, b) somehow managed to get read and c) said person is able to find the time to write back. But now it’s as easy as sending a Tweet, and as three recent Harry Potter fans learned, sometimes it is just that simple. While considering some of the lingering mysteries of the book and film series, inquiring minds decided to go to the source. author J.K. Rowling, and by the miracle of Twitter Rowling provided some insight into those mysteries. (more…)

Potter 3

If you are anything like me, you have been waiting on any little piece of information that may indicate that the lovely J.K. Rowling may be returning to the world of The Boy Who Lived ever since reading the final pages of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows back in 2007.  Yes, we had the movie franchise to keep us going for a bit but Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 was released over two and a half years ago and many muggles besides just myself have been jonesing for a wizard fix.  Thankfully, it appears that many of us will have plenty to celebrate as we get closer to Christmas.  Pottermore, the immersive Harry Potter site, has announced that J.K. Rowling will be releasing 12 new stories set in the world of everyone’s favorite bespectacled wizard. (more…)

Apparently it takes less than 144 characters to bring Harry Potter fans into a frenzy of riddle solving madness. Earlier this week J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, sent out a cryptic tweet that suddenly sent Harry Potter fans into an anagram frenzy. Turns out it was all to drum up even more interest in Rowling’s upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film. Could this mysterious tweet have something to do with Harry Potter showing up in the movie? (more…)

Harry Potter fans rejoice! J.K. Rowling continues to dip her toes into the Potter Universe. Every now and then Rowling adds to the Potter Mythos by posting new smatterings of content to the Pottermore site, recently posting a closer look at one of the Potterverse characters that was only mentioned three times in the series and never appeared in person. Who could it be? You’re gonna have to click-through to find out! (more…)
