In covering nerd news, we get a lot of information about our favorite upcoming films and TV shows from new trailers, interviews, and behind the scenes photos and videos, but that’s not the only way we get our insights. Sometimes, we get the most spoilery material from the oddest places, like toys. Sometimes, you’re at a show, you’re looking at a line-up of toys and collectibles, and you see something unexpected. For the upcoming line of Suicide Squad collectibles from Sideshow‘s Knightmare line, a particular figure was added that maybe a *SPOILER* for the upcoming DC Comics super-villain team-up movie. It seems like nearly every week something new hits the web regarding the upcoming David Ayer film ‘Suicide Squad.’ From trailers, to a prequel comic book tie-in to the film, talks of solo spinoff movies, and even discussions on the significance of Jared Leto’s Joker’s tattoos. The latest from the marketing powerhouse that is Warner Bros./DC Films are solo character posters of the cast. These new artist renditions give us a couple of unique and catchy styles highlighting each member of Task Force X, the woman who assembled them (Amanda Waller), and of course The Joker. (more…)
Here we are, a couple months from the release of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. The summers last big comic book movie, which sees a rag tag group of super villains doing some bad (a whole lots of it) to do some good. In the mix of all that is the latest silver screen iteration of The Joker with Jared Leto taking on the role of the mad clown. It is this, the appearance of The Joker, that has generated more buzz and interest than the rest of the cast, or the movie itself for that matter. And why not? Jared Leto is the latest actor to take on the crown prince of crime. A task not so easily met. Especially coming off the back of Heath Ledger’s memorable performance in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, with a portrayal so distinguishable and defining, that getting the public to accept anyone new taking on the character is a damn near sacrilege. In order to get the public to suspend Ledger’s Joker from memory would require something new. Something so outrageously different that audiences couldn’t possibly compare the two. Enter Jared Leto with a purple pimp jacket and tattoos that would make the Russian mob jealous. (more…)
We are only two months away from the release of DC Films/Warner Bros. feature ‘Suicide Squad.’ As fans wait in anticipation, the studio has been teasing the film through the various trailers they have released. As the debut nears, expect more promotional campaigns to hype up the opening. The most recent came in the form of a promotion with SPLAT hair dye, a company known for their wildly outrageous dye colors. As an added bonus with your hair coloring, a mini comic prequel was included entitled “Suicide Blonde” which features the backstory of The Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn’s (Margot Robbie) relationship. Having been in the works since 2009, tensions could hardly higher among the DC fans waiting for the new Suicide Squad movie. It will see the DC Universe’s most dangerous and unpredictable villains coerced onto the side of good in order to save the world from its biggest threat yet. The sneak peeks that fans have been treated to so far have only fuelled the excitment about this film. Between the all star cast and distinctive image that each character has been given, it’s been all but impossible to miss the conversation buzzing around this movie. (more…)
Tonight (Apr. 10) the as promised release of an all new trailer for David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad made it’s debut during the MTV Movie Awards and it did not disappoint (the trailer that is, I will not pass judgement on an award show for movies on a channel that has ‘music’ in it’s name but only runs TV shows about people being ‘catfished’ on the internet.) Packed with new footage featuring more of Jared Leto’s Joker and Ben Affleck’s stunt doubles Batman and even, amazingly enough, those rumored jokes the reshoots were suppose to add*. Already? Damn, Ayer you are quick at the editing bay.

Despite initial reticence when the first picture of Jared Leto‘s Joker was released with an all-too-obvious “damaged” tattooed on his forehead, anticipation for Suicide Squad, the DC Extended Universe‘s next installment after the just released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, has been steadily building as more and more material has been released. A lot of that has to do with the fact that Leto’s Joker actually looks really intriguing. Following Heath Ledger’s incredible portrayal of the iconic character in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is probably the least enviable job for an already accomplished actor so far this century, but it looks like Leto has attacked the project with gusto. Will Smith recently praised the performance of his costar and now director David Ayers has shared some glowing remarks about the actor.
Justice doesn’t just have a bad side, it has a nutty side too. This August, Suicide Squad will hit theaters and introduce some of Batman’s most iconic villains to the DC Cinematic Universe. In addition to Harley Quinn and Deadshot making their film debuts, it will be the first time in eight years that we’ll see the Joker himelf on the big screen. Academy Award-winner Jared Leto is playing Mr. J this time around, and many are curious as to whether his performance will hold a candle to Heath Ledger’s portrayal in 2008. To get ready for his role in The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger locked himself in a hotel room for about a month, which sounds appropriately crazy to prepare for a role that’s the textbook definition of insane. While Leto hasn’t done anything that drastic, co-star Viola Davis recently revealed that his preparation for the role was far from sane.
Oh, the difference a good trailer can make in forming opinions. This new trailer for David Ayer‘s Suicide Squad should do just that, change everyone’s opinion. Everything from the music selection to the set up and payoff is clicking just the way one would want for the: Worst Superheros Ever… (more…)
