Did you see last night’s Arrow? We hope so because it was kind of, to use a word, “huge.” Since the beginning of the season, the show has teased the viewer with a big death that would change Team Arrow in the process; a big enough death that it would bring Barry Allen to town even in the midst of the intensifying fight with Zoom. Well the death certainly was big, and it certainly will change the nature of Arrow going forward, but what does the executive producer of the show have to say? Or the actor playing the now deceased character on the show? Obviously, they have some words, and spoilers definitely follow. (more…)

After 18 episodes of teasing and speculation, tonight’s Arrow revealed finally the occupant of the grave we saw in the flash-forward in episode one. How soon does flash-forward become the present? But no matter how you feel about the character that met their creator tonight, you certainly can’t say that it wasn’t bold and impactful, nor was it any of the likely suspects that have been pondered about all year. It will be curious to see where the story will go from here, but one thing’s assuredly obvious, and that is the Arrow writers arranged the deck in such a way that everyone left at the end of the hour will be scared by its events. Arrow-Season-4

There’s a great weight of expectation on the upcoming fourth season of Arrow. First of all, there was the disappointing return of the third season, which didn’t always seem to know what it was doing, so Arrow has to bounce back from that. Then there’s new costumes, new characters, a supposedly lighter tone, at least one major crossover (with Matt Ryan as TV’s Constantine) and Arrow doing its part to help set up the next spin-off Legends of Tomorrow. The odds are stacked against Team Arrow, and that’s hardly a new position for them, but dare I say that the below photo gallery offers something to get excited about? (more…)

TV RECAP: ‘Arrow’ – S03E13 – “Canaries”

Screen Shot 2015-02-12 at 9.12.39 AM

Watching last night’s episode of Arrow unfold, one has to appreciate the re-emergence of the series narrative gusto, a quality that’s been sorely lacking in much of the season so far. A great many ongoing elements of the show came together to push the story and the characters forward, capitalizing on the somewhat meticulous maneuvering of deck chairs that characterized much of the last 12 episodes. In the wake of Oliver’s return to Starling is the realization that things have changed pretty profoundly for Team Arrow, and in the shadow of Vertigo’s return – the man and the drug – some awful truths are revealed, and even accepted. TV RECAP: ‘Arrow’ – S3E12 – “Uprising”

Screen Shot 2015-02-05 at 9.38.44 AM

This week’s episode of Arrow brings the stirring and action-packed finale to the Funeral for a Friend Brick trilogy, in which Team Arrow comes to terms with being Oliver-less just in time for the Man in the Green Hood’s return. In a busy hour of television that saw Oliver’s triumphant comeback, and the titular gathering of Glades residents ready to stand up to Brick and his very ambitious gang of psychos and criminals. We also get new revelations into the mind of Merlyn and a new direction for the season as to how Ra’s al Ghul will respond when he finds out that stabbing a guy with a sword isn’t nearly as effective a death as it should be. Although it brings to mind the jaunty tune by the French electronic duo, “Midnight City” was no happy-go-lucky hour of Arrow. In Starling City, for Oliver’s friends and allies, there’s no time for mourning, nor is there any time to stop and catch their breath. True, everyone’s green hooded hero was alive and well (ish), but his city was taking a proverbial and literal beating from Danny “Brick” Brickwell. It’s time for a new hero to rise, time for her – yes, her – to take up her mantle as a leather-clad defender of innocents with a talent to wield blunt objects in manner almost as fierce as her temper. Too bad that this Canary is woefully under-prepared for the mantle passed down to her. (more…)

It’s been a packed couple of days of Arrow news as the beloved CW superhero series was renewed for a fourth season and interest was expressed in a second spin-off from the show. But on to more practical concerns, like what’s coming up in the second half of the season and where fate might take the ragtag group of heroes and villains that populate Starling City. During the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, the CW hosted mega-panel of the costumed vigilantes, allies and agitators, from which we got some insight into what’s ahead on Arrow given the peculiar circumstances that the show left its titular hero in just before the Christmas break. Warning, spoilers be ahead. (more…)

Yup, it’s a Black Canary trilogy on Arrow. We’ve known from the beginning that Laurel Lance, played by Katie Cassidy, was on a course to become the black clad heroine, and that it was only a matter of time, and as fans of the show have seen, that time is now. Not only have fans of the show seen Laurel training with Ted “Wildcat” Grant to get her vigilante on, but we’ve seen the first pictures of her in full Black Canary regalia, complete with mask and action figure stance. Fans may note that things have been going a little quickly for Canary 2.0, but one of the executive producers of the show says it’s okay because, you know, trilogy. (more…)

Arrow has earned the love and admiration of comic book fans for its thrilling weekly adventures of the Emerald Archer, and the way it’s captured the spirit of the comic book Green Arrow on the CW TV series. But fans don’t love all aspects of the show universally, and more often than not, Katie Cassidy‘s character, Oliver Queen’s ex-girlfriend Laurel Lance, has been something of a lightning rod. Hate her, or feel indifferently about her, from the start of the show, we’ve known Laurel has a destiny to join her ex’s war on crime in Starling City, and this season’s been making a move toward that in earnest. Apparently though, destiny is coming sooner than we think because below you can see Cassidy, for the first time, in full Black Canary gear. (more…)

TV REVIEW: ‘Arrow’ S3E2 – “Sara”

nb-tv-review-ARROW-s03e02

Before we dive into this week’s Arrow let’s agree about one thing: Laurel kinda sucks. No disrespect to Katie Cassidy, she’s done fine work with what she’s been given, but to be honest, what she’s been given hasn’t been very much. The Arrow team is clearly trying to create a more compelling path for Laurel, one that was hinted at in last season’s finale when Sara gave her big sister her Black Canary jacket. Said jacket made a reappearance in tonight’s episode, a moment of epiphany for Ms. Lance, and the audience, that says “Oh yeah, I have a destiny.” With all subtlety of a bat crash through the library window at Wayne Manor, Laurel now realizes that she must become someone else; she must become something else. And that thing is a hot, blonde, leather-clad crime-fighter with the initials B.C. (more…)
