The subscription service that is revolutionising the way the west watches television, Netflix became a household name practically overnight. Having all your favourite shows and a boatload of movies available to view on demand makes life so much easier for anyone with a job or a hobby or a life, who can’t always be there when shows are broadcast live. It saves having to remember to record stuff and costs a hell of a lot less than buying or renting everything you want to watch individually. Already instrumental in forging the future of home viewing, Netflix moved into creating its own original content in 2013.
There are tons of things you can watch to get to grips with the kind of content Netflix is capable of creating, and it’s well worth doing. Though it’s as guilty of the occasional dud as any other network, there is enough great quality original stuff on there to keep you occupied for months on end.
If you’re new to Netflix and want somewhere to start, you could do a lot worse than checking out these cool shows. (more…)
Word is making the Internet rounds that Marvel has found their Iron Fist lead in Game of Thrones star Finn Jones. Earlier this year Luke Cage lead Mike Colter teased:
The actor has been cast, but he’s in a basement somewhere. When the time is right, they’ll let him up and tell him where he is.
Now that Jones is cast, we can start to wonder when he’ll make his Marvel debut. (more…)
Marvel seems to be as on top of their game as ever. After dominating the world of superhero cinema for the past seven years, Marvel decided last year to revolutionize longform television series involving superheroes. First, they redeemed Daredevil in a way no one thought possible, with an explosive, violent, street level show. Then, they topped themselves with the gritty noir that is Jessica Jones. Jessica Jones blew fans away when it debuted on Netflix in November, partially by embracing what Marvel consistently does so well, which is to allow their properties to explore different genres, telling stories that happen to involve superheroes rather than trying to build a story around a superhero. This year fans are getting a second season of Daredevil, followed by a new series, Luke Cage, and it appears that the hits are going to keep on coming. Jessica Jones has been confirmed for a second season!
Marvel‘s Netflix series Jessica Jones has been privy to some mixed reactions. Some applaud the show’s progressive nature and edgy feel, while others feel that its overall attempt at feminism falls flat. Regardless, The Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association has nominated titular character portray-er Krysten Ritter for a Critics Choice Award in the category of “Best Actress in a Drama Series”. Fellow Marvel Netflix series Daredevil didn’t fare as well with the critics, as the following full list of television nominees shows. (more…)
It seems to be universal opinion at this point that Jessica Jones is another impressive and enjoyable entry into the Marvel Studios canon. From the hard-boiled noir storyline to the tremendous cast including Krysten Ritter as the title character and David Tennant as maybe the scariest Marvel villain yet, Jessica Jones has been a hit with fans, critics and the general audience. And now, it’s time for that inevitable moment where we start dissecting the series for all the various references, asides and Easter eggs that it has to offer. Obsessively mining all 13-epsiodes for clues? Why not watch the following video instead? (more…)
The second trailer for Netflix‘s Jessica Jones series has hit the Internet and it will only make you want more. Krysten Ritter looks and sounds magnificent as the title character Jessica Jones, and David Tennant shows why the Purple Man is much more dangerous than he appears on the surface. There’s only ten more days until Netflix dumps the entire series onto its platform and thankfully, I have Fallout 4 to distract me, without it, those ten days wouldn’t be pretty. I am Jonesin’ for hard for some Jessica Jones. (more…)
When the Netflix Jessica Jones pilot episode was shown at NYCC15, everyone told us how dark and mature the series was and while I believed them, I never thought it would be this dark. Holy Crap, that trailer was dark. You’ve got to take a look for yourself and let us know what you think. (more…)
While there are a great number of things happening this weekend at NYCC15, the gathering of 3/4’s of Netflix and Marvel‘s Defenders might just be one of the highlights for many fans. Daredevil‘s Charlie Cox, Jesscia Jones‘ Krysten Ritter, and Luke Cage‘s Mike Colter took part in Press Roundtables and then in a big signing along with Joe Quesada, Jeph Loeb, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Jon Bernthal. We might get a full trailer for Marvel and Netflix‘s Jessica Jones this weekend at NYCC 2015 if we’re lucky. There’s been a number of teasers released and now some street guerrilla style marketing for the series that hits November 20th. This time around the teaser is all about the Purple Man played by David Tennant. That’s right, the tenth Doctor is bringing all that talent to make Jessica Jones’ (Krysten Ritter) life miserable.
