Most people aren’t enamored with the concept of documentaries. The premise of spending 1-2 hours watching a program under the guise of educational exploration is lost on those who’d rather have their entertainment be anything but. It’s true, there is a time for learning and there is a time for entertainment. A good documentary, however, does both. A good documentary will hook you with a prospective topic – something you’re mildly curious about or something you never knew you’d be interested in – and takes you on an enlightening journey that expands your mind, all whilst leaving you feel entertained. No one truly likes spending time learning stuff, but everyone does like feeling like the smartest guy/girl in the room. A good documentary leaves you feeling smarter and more informed, with the least amount of effort from you as possible.
The following entries make up some of the best, fascinating, and nerd approved documentaries that you can watch right now on Netflix. So sit back, relax, and be prepared to learn some shit via your Television or streaming mobile device. (more…)
Just when you thought LEGO Dimensions couldn’t get any better, it just did. If you’re unfamiliar with LD, it is a new upcoming game peripheral in the same style of Disney Infinity and Skylanders, with a unique docking station and an assortment of figurines that allow you to play different worlds and areas of the game. Only LEGO Dimension is better because the base and figures are LEGO pieces that you build. Oh, and the not so little premise of featuring pop culture characters from various genres like Back to The Future, Batman, Lord of The Rings, and Doctor Who. You can also take any character into any world. Yes! In your face Disney Infinity!
Still not convinced? Well there’s another game expansion that should interest you. At least if bustin’ Ghosts makes you feel good, that is. (more…)
Comic Con has games? Clearly you’re new here, but yes, there is a strong video game presence at San Diego Comic Con, and like all things in movies, comics and TV, SDCC marks a pretty big date on the calender for video game companies looking to get some promo for their new products. To wit, let’s talk LEGO. We all love LEGO, it, and everything about it, is awesome! Most Marvel fans know to go expect a few curveballs in their movies, (and to ALWAYS stay during the ending credits!), but was a major Ant-Man spoiler revealed by hands other than Marvel’s? LEGO already has a track record of such leaks; such dropping the Iron Man 3 plot twist with Aldrich Killian, and giving us a view of the Vision before his poster was officially revealed. This time the victim of possible spoilage is Ant-Man, by way of an interesting image for an Ant-Man LEGO set. (more…)
Man, The Lego Movie made a hell of a splash, even if the Academy somehow managed to overlook the talent that was required to put a movie of that scale together. Every new Jurassic Park movie has featured a new dinosaur – or two, or three – to plague the brave humans crazy enough to go to an island filled with creatures whose Latin name is derived from the term “terrible lizards.” Speaking of terrible, it seems that some terrible things are in store for the characters in the upcoming fourth Jurassic Park movie, Jurassic World. The new film directed by Colin Trevorrow will feature some never-before-seen animals, and while we have yet to see any finished footage from the film (more on that later), we have now, apparently, gotten a look at one of those new dinosaurs featured in it. “Look” is a relative term in this case, but despite the, ahem, scale, it gives you a pretty good idea of what Trevorrow et al are cooking up. Whenever Nerd Bastards goes to a con, we don’t just like to highlight the celebrity guests, news items and other things. No! We also like to put the camera on you, the fans. Those of you in costume anyway. So many fans get into an incredible amount of detail with their costumes, fret over the smallest detail and make sacrifices of comfort and mobility, so it’s only right that as we celebrate the culture, we also celebrate those that make the culture possible with their mad nerdiness. On this Thursday of Fan Expo 2014, we found judges, super-people, brains, robots, and something that looks suspiciously like something out of Will Graham’s nightmares. Also, some very impress LEGO sculptures were on display. All that, and MOAR, in this first photo gallery from Toronto’s National Fan Expo! (more…)
