Gee, Thanks for Spoiling ‘Iron Man 3′, LEGO

lego-super.heroes-2013-marvel-iron-man

You’re a multi-million dollar Hollywood franchise and your best kept secrets are supposed to remain exactly that -be secret. So why is someone once again spoiling key scenes to a Marvel movie like Iron Man 3, just like they did with The Amazing Spider-Man?

Pictures of two LEGO playsets for the Shane Black directed film have hit the ‘net and yes, they seem to be spoiling some key scenes from the movie.

Brick-based spoilerage stars up after the jump.

Is This ‘Star Wars’ Toy Racist?

Yeah, that’s a question. And you thought Star Wars Episode I was the extent of George Lucas’ propensity for exploiting racial stereotypes and out-dated portrayals of race.

The Turkish Cultural Community of Austria (TCCA), which includes at least two things you never would have thought go together, is pointing at the new LEGO Jabba’s Palace playset and calling “racist” on it. Now you may be reading this at home, at the local cafe, or even on the bus and maybe thinking to yourself: “How can a LEGO version of Jabba’s Palace from Return of the Jedi possibly be considered racist?” Good question.

According to the TCCA, the palace looks like both the Hagia Sophia, a 1,600-year-old former basilica and mosque in Istanbul, and Jami’ al-Kabir, a mosque from the 7th century in Beirut, and that’s not cool. On the surface, that doesn’t sound that bad, but the TCCA looks at it thusly:

“It is clear that the figure of the ugly villain Jabba and the whole scene [exemplifies] racial prejudice and vulgar insinuations against … Orientals and Asians as sneaky and criminal personalities (slaveholders, leaders of criminal organizations, terrorists, criminals, murderers, human sacrifice)…,” the group wrote on its website.

First of all, really? Second of all, it’s been 30 years since the release of Return of the Jedi, did someone at the TCCA finally put on the Blu-ray? Or is like the whole thing last summer when adoption advocates went off against The Avengers for Thor’s wisecrack: a case of people with too much time on their hands and platform to exploit their over-sensitivity? I think we all know what I think, what about you Bastards?

‘Man of Steel’ Update: PG-13 Rating And Possible Sub-Villains

The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) has just released the latest batch of movie ratings and Zach Snyder‘s Man Of Steel is getting a PG-13 rating. It’s not much of a surprise really, most mainstream superhero movies get the PG-13 rating, each of Christopher Nolan‘s Batman movies, The Avengers, all got a PG-13 for mild violence and adult content.

The MPAA posted their reasoning for the rating:

There had better be some INTENSE sci-fi violence in this movie. Superman needs to hit something, he needs to hit it hard, and I’m not talking about Lois Lane. (Rim shot!) Superman Returns suffered because there wasn’t enough fighting, there was action, but without some actual fighting Superman is boring.

The next Man of Steel news update tidbit is another one of those LEGO Set Spoilers. Toy sets often spoil some details of their movie counterpart through packaging or pre-order forms and Man of Steel is no exception. The title of the box set gives us a peek at some of the characters involved in the movie. In this case a couple new villain names.

76003 Superman – Battle of Smallville : Général Zod, Colonel Hardy, Tor-An, Superman et Faora

We knew about Zod, but now the cats out of the bag about Tor-An and Faora, two additional Kryptonians. Many are speculating about what kind of role each will play in the story, most figure them to be smaller, secondary villains to General Zod, it’s a good bet that their going to be minions.

ComicBook.com is reporting an anonymous source that claims Tor-An will be played by actor and stuntman Richard Cetrone (Sucker Punch), along with another Kryptonian – Dev-Em, an escaped criminal played by Revard Dufresne (Sucker Punch).

The title of the set is what really intrigues me. Battle of Smallville leads me to believe that there will be a big fight in Superman’s home town during the movie. Remember that scene in the trailer where a space craft is hovering outside the Kent house? Could that be Zod and his minions come to play?

Zod: “Can Clark come out to play Mrs Kent?” Maybe Tor-An can do a Warriors style clinking bottles on his fingers . . . “Superman, come out and plaaaaayyyyy!”
