The first television spot for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has hit the Internet and it’s got all the bells and whistles you’d expect, action, angst, and Atlas (Coldplay’s new song). (more…)
Returning triumphantly to San Diego this weekend will be The Hunger Games‘ second installment, Catching Fire. They’re already scheduled for a panel in Hall H on Saturday at 1:35pm PST, and today Yahoo has revealed what we can expect from the panel. For one, we’ll definitely be getting a new trailer, which is precisely what we’ve come to expect from any film presenting at Comic Con with a release date this year. The good news is, those of us not at Comic Con will get to see the trailer once it’s released online during the Hall H panel. Hooray, no wait! So make sure you’re here Saturday around 2:oopm PST/5:00pm EST when the new Catching Fire trailer goes live. Oh, and there’s this new pic, seen above. Hmm, for Hunger Game champions both Katniss and Peeta look pretty dour, huh?
In addition to the new trailer, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Willow Shields, Jeffrey Wright and director Francis Lawrence will all be in attendance. Get your questions about Peeniss ready now. What? That’s the official ship name of the Peeta/Katniss relationship. I’m serious! Look it up.
There’s also been a string of character posters released featuring all of the tributes of the Quarter Quell – think Hunger Games: All-Stars – in their sleek wetsuits. Why the wetsuits? Remember how last film the Games were held in a forest arena? This time it’s a more tropical arena, and it’s infinitely more awesome, and more deadly.
Hit the jump to check out the posters!
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Director Francis Lawrence, is eying Julianne Moore for the role of District 13 leader, Alma Coin. The negotiations are still in the early stages, but Moore would be a fantastic addition to the already stellar cast including Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Donald Sutherland, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, and Lenny Kravitz.
*****SPOILER TALK AHEAD******

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 50 million copies in print in the U.S. alone. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE opens on November 22, 2013.
As a nice tie-in with the opening events of The Hunger Games‘ sequel, Catching Fire, which feature the winners of the 74th Hunger Games parading through the districts on a victory tour, Lionsgate have released these victory portraits of Elizabeth Banks’ Effie Trinket, Stanley Tucci’s Caesar Flickerman, Woody Harrelson‘s Haymitch Abernathy, Lenny Kravitz’s Cinna, and of course, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss.

Lionsgate has released a (slightly) spiffy animated poster for it’s Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. It was unlocked by HG fans on Facebook. Apparently, if you creep FB long enough, you get an animated logo for a teaser of a teaser of a trailer of a trailer…
OMG guys, it’s a logo, let’s check it out right fucking now!
Already breaking records and taking names, The Hunger Games, based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling young adult novel, is playing the box office game like a career tribute, and if you’ve got that reference then you’ve probably already been to theatre and/or have your ticket to go sometime this weekend.
The Hunger Games is a literary phenomenon on par with, though not yet as successful as, Harry Potter and Twilight. Still, Hunger has captured a lot of imaginations because of its quick-witted, independent hero Katniss Everdeen, and for testing the boundaries of youth fiction by portraying, quite honestly, the brutality and savagery of the world it takes place in. The film carries over some of that, but being a Hollywood film, a lot of the raw edges of the story are smoothed out to a degree.
For the benefit of fans of all stripes, I’ve decided to split this review for those who haven’t read the book, and for those of you that have. If you haven’t read the book, I’ll tell you when to stop reading because we’ll be then getting in to spoiler territory. (more…)
It’s fucking crazy how popular The Hunger Games is. The book series, by Suzanne Collins has a fan base that rivals Twilight. Here’s hoping those same fans come out in droves for the upcoming HG movie and dethrone Twilight from the box office. Gawd, how I would love that!
Lionsgate (which oddly enough, owns the Twilight films rights) is certainly pushing The Hunger Games to be a tour-de force. New clips and TV spots are being released daily. In fact, a new TV spot from The Hunger Games is now online and offers another look at the highly-anticipated March 23rd release.
Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Lenny Kravitz, Amandla Stenberg, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland this 30-second spot gives fans another quick look at “the games”. The spot also shows off a pivotal interaction between Cinna (Kravitz) and Katniss (Lawrence) shortly before the beginning of the 74th annual Hunger Games.
Check it out in the jump below.
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

The second clip from “The Hunger Games“ is now online and shows off Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss with Lenny Kravitz’s Cinna, her stylist for the 74th annual Hunger Games. Check out the video below.
The scene is very much like the book, but I have to say that Lenny’s performance in this clip has me even more excited to see the movie. The Cinna character in the books always seemed reserved to this NerdBastard, Lenny brings out Cinna’s burning desire to make a statement out in the open to enjoy.
Directed by Gary Ross, the film also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Amandla Stenberg, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland.
“The Hunger Games” arrives in theaters on March 23rd.
Lionsgate is now airing two new TV spots for The Hunger Games, which feature glimpses of the many colorful characters, as well as key scenes from the celebrated book series. I’m sure fans will go all GA-GA over it. If it doesn’t, well… there’s always a US mall tour to look forward to. Yep, the makers of the Hunger Games are hoping to catch the attention of tweens and mall rats everywhere.
Seriously, a mall tour? That’s some 80’s boy-band marketing type shit (New Kids on the Block anyone?). While the tactic seems dated, it has been successfully used for the Twilight series. If it worked for that horrid franchise, why not another? ( Yes, I do have some specious hate for The Hunger Games, but I’m keeping my mouth shut on this one. It’s too hot to mock) Basically, the production company schleps actors around the US and dumps em’ off at a mall for autographs and awkward photo ops. It’s corny, but as an average mall goer myself, I’ll admit it’s always exciting seeing celebrities drop by while you’re eating cookies and yelling at kids to get off the escalator.
Check out the official press release after the jump to see if the cast of The Hunger Games is coming to YOUR mall. *queue up the song “Lets All Go to the Mall” by Robin Sparkles.
Oh, before you read the press release, here’s those two TV spots I promised you:
