For the past few weekends the majority of the free world appears to have made it’s way to the cinema to take in that smarmy spaceman/baby-tree/laser trash-panda epic, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still at the top of the box office and the James Gunn directed cosmic comicbook action/comedy has been universally regarded as both captivating and crowd pleasing. Well, except for one person apparently. (more…)
In a Marvel film, you can always count on a few things. It’s going to be entertaining as hell, and there will no doubt be a Stan Lee cameo. Considered the godfather of Marvel (and comic books in general), Stan Lee is responsible for giving us most of the characters we hold dear to our hearts. Although the 94-year-old has since retired from his position at Marvel, he almost always has made cameos in the films based on his properties.
Recently, the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, said that they have some ideas for what the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might look like after Avengers 4 in May 2019. It may be a world without phases, he said, but the one thing he did know was that it was “gonna be very, very different.” Different how? Below are some suggestions for what new directions the MCU might go into next, some educated guesses given what they’ve done so far. So what might be in store for – well let’s just call it – Phase 4? The first press screening for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 finally happened earlier this week, and they were, for the most part, a rave. These are good days to be Marvel Studios, the company seems perpetually able to do no wrong, and they look primed to have a record breaking year with three big movies coming out this year. Perhaps that’s why the studio was cocky enough to have let reporters into their offices this week for an open house and preview upcoming work. And perhaps that’s why the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, also decided to open himself up to pressing questions. (more…)
That’s a rhetorical headline obviously, since of course you do.
When we last saw Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) he had finally unwrapped the gift his dying mother had given him to discover that it was a cassette tape, but not just any ordinary one. This was Awesome Mix Vol. 2, the follow up to what is undoubtedly them most durable string of magnetic media in the known galaxy since he had been listening to it on repeat for past 26 years or so, Awesome Mix Vol. 1.
So, what music does this mythical mix tape contain? Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn, has finally unveiled the track listing for the the films upcoming sequel and it is absolutely perfect. (more…)
Marvel Studios had a busy day today!
Guardians of the Galaxy just about ready to hit theaters, and has been getting some great first reactions by some critics. Kevin Feige decided to let the floodgates open and hosted an Open House at the Disney lot in Burbank. There, members of the press were treated to all sorts of details for the upcoming Phase 3 films including Black Panther, Antman and The Wasp, and Captain Marvel.
It seems like only yesterday we were getting a daily info dump about a new casting announcement for Inhumans, the Marvel Studios and ABC series based on the royal family of the super-powered alien-hybrid race. Actually, it was last week, and to prove how far along in the process the production is, it seems that we’ve got our first spy pic from the set. If you’re in Hawaii right now, be advised, there are Inhumans among you. Be on the look out for a tall man in black who doesn’t say much (anything) and his big dog with teleporting abilities. (more…)
“You Have To Spend Money To Make Money.”
Most big studio blockbuster movies nowadays have grand budgets anyways. After all, our demand for big action, big special effects, and famous faces are the reason many of us are quite content with shelling out our hard earned $15 to go see our favorite movies. The movie studios know they stand to make substantial returns on their investments, so they have no problem greenlighting movies for hundreds upon hundreds of millions of dollars if they know they can make a killing on the back end. In addition to ticket sales, there’s Blu-Ray releases, streaming rights, and corporate sponsorships (toys, happy meals, etc) that ensure they make lots and lots of money off their films. Superhero movies are no stranger to this concept as they are now the most profitable movies currently out. Currently, the mother of all superhero movie, Avengers: Infinity War and its Untitled Sequel are currently in productions, and they have one hell of o budget.
The plot of Captain America: Civil War hinged in large part on the Black Panther played by Chadwick Boseman, but there wasn’t a lot of time in the film to go into the character’s origin or what he was doing before that first scene at the signing of the Sokovia Accords in Germany. Obviously, it was always the plan to go deeper into that with Black Panther, the solo movie about the character from writer/director Ryan Coogler, which is now prepping for principal photography. From that prep comes word about one scene in particular, and it involves public transit in the Bay area in the 1990s. (more…)
This past weekend a new teaser trailer dropped for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and everyone went crazy. There previously was a “teaser” teaser trailer which gave us a few images to get us once again “Hooked on a Feelin,” but this new trailer gave us even more fun visuals and a brand new (well old) song to love. The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie was a surprise hit, so we know that the next film is going to be big. So it’s no surprise that the latest teaser for next year’s film already has been viewed a whole lot!
