mashup

Cross overs are a wonderful thing. When they’re done right, you get glorious canonical cross-franchise action (a la Spawn Vs Batman), provided either party can sort through the mountain of legal implications. When they are handled by loving nerds however, you get glorious mashups of things like the most popular Space Opera series ever made. Kind of like YouTube User VG 934, being the incorrigible Whovian fan that he is, saw the potential in a subtle Star Wars/Doctor Who mashup and simply rolled with it, with excellent results…

Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

Thank you internet, thank you. If you haven’t figured it out yet these images take quotes from Arrested Development and combine them with screencaps from Game of Thrones. It’s Arrested Westeros. View many, many more on their site. Like Daenerys burning down the banana stand. Didn’t she realize there’s always money in the banana stand! (io9) (more…)

We here are no strangers to a good mashup. Often we feature them in our daily roundup of neato bits and bobs, Nerdy Bits. Other times they are so fantastic, just so freakin’ awesome, we need to share them immediately.

Such is the case with this brilliant video from Harry Callaghan (Harry101UK). In fact, this video exceeds most mashups because it doesn’t simply take the audio of one thing and mash it with the visuals of another. No, he’s created something new and marvelous.

This Is Aperture” features GLaDOS, Wheatley and those turrets who kept trying to kill you as you made your way through Portal and Portal 2 singing to the tune of “This Is Halloween” from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Complete with new and hilariously appropriate lyrics.

At this point I’m sure you’re twitchin’ from excitement so let’s just watch it already!

Hey Valve, we love Jonathan Coulton, too, but come Portal 3, I think you should give this guy a call.

NOTHING if SOPA & PIPA aren’t stopped. If these controversial pieces of legislation were to pass you could say goodbye to amusing collections of funny shit on the internet, like Nerdy Bits.

Above: The Joy of Tech illustrate the internet blackout of 2012, happening today in protest of the damaging legislation SOPA and PIPA. And while yes, the blackout could help get you laid, you won’t be able visit many of your favorite sites. Here’s a list of websites currently blacked out in protest. (Laughing Squid)

Don’t know what SOPA , or it’s sibling PIPA, are? Let’s educate! What is SOPA? by Gizmodo gives a great and easy to understand explanation. But so does this animated clip from The Oatmeal, and it involves jet skis and koala/goat love, making it much more amusing.

Do your part to stop SOPA and PIPA. As of now SOPA has been shelved, but it’s not dead, it could rear its ugly head again. PIPA, it’s Senate counterpart is still going strong. Call your senator and tell them you want to keep the internet a cool, hip place where we can laugh at Arnold Schwarzenegger parodies and Skyrim memes until we too take an arrow in the knee.

Please guys, do it for the LOLcats.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the flash mob staged in Time Square that was intended to entice everyone into buying Star Wars: The Old Republic. It’s cool and all, but lightsaber battles as opposed to frozen lightsaber motifs would have been cooler. (TDW: Geek)
