Mattel To Make Real Honest-To-Goodness Hoverboards

It was only a few short months ago that Nike released the Nike MAG shoes as worn by Marty McFly in Back to the Future II in a very limited (and pricey run) and then after that news came out that some science nerds were working on’ Quantum Locking‘, that is the technology to make something hover.

You can see where this is going can’t you.

A full 3 years early on the whole 2015 mark from the movie and just in time for Christmas, Mattel announced at the New York Toy Fair over the weekend that that will be releasing a limited run of actually and totally for realsies honest to goodness hoverbaords! (sorta)

The He-Man Creation Controversy

Who knew that there was such a controversy about the creation of He-man? This trailer is fascinating. All these guys with their He-man /He-said. For those outside the creative corporate structure, this is a lot more common than you know. It’s a dog eat dog world out there and this is a very interesting example of how an idea can get taken and run with. Check out the trailer below and the offical site. NerdBastards will kep you informed on when the film comes out of production.

Oh Joy: Masters of the Universe Classics Line Displayed at ToyFair 2011

_abc3879

Yesterday I wrote about my personal account at the NY Toyfair. In my account I mentioned how I could not get into the Mattel showroom. To view their products was by appointment only. I flirted, bribed them with candies and cupcakes, but alas they refused to let me enter. They pulled a “you shall not pass” on me. I’m particularly sour about not getting in, as the whole reason for my trip was to check out Mattel‘s fall/summer roll-out for their Masters of the Universe Classics Line. Briefly: MOTUC celebrates the He-man figures from the 80′s with monthly figure releases to Mattel’s exclusive collector website MattyCollector.com. The figures they roll out monthly are a homage to their original counterparts, looking essentially the same in design, but have all the niceties of today’s modern sculpting and detail. They’re really something.  Anyway, the line started about 2 years ago and about 50 figures have takin’ stabs at my wallet. I’ve collected everyone. Like many fans of the line, we itch to see what figures are around the corner. Again, I was unable to gratify my anticipation as I got kicked out the building. On the plus side, they booted me right in front of a hot dog stand. At-least my hunger was satisfied.

Well, purely for my self indulgence and for the rest of the He-Man fans out there in the bastards crowd, our friends from popculturenetwork.com were able to get a video walk through of the figures displayed at Toy Fair 2011.

Sy-Klone. King Hsss. Man-E-Face. It looks like I’ll be eatin’ wish sandwiches for the 6 months or so. What’s a wish sandwich? Two slices of bread and some mayo. You “wish” you had some meat in it. Suffice to say, I’m fairly excited and maybe a few of you might be as well.

Is Matthew Goode our New “Man of Steel”? Plus, a Christopher Reeve Action Figure!

matthew goode

Working with Zack Snyder really pays off, at least in the case of Matthew Goode. Goode, who played Ozymandias in Snyder’s Watchmen is now in the running to play bumbling reporter Clark Kent in his reboot of Superman.  I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty excited about the low-key British actor playing the role!  Clearly, Jon Hamm is too old for the role and I wouldn’t see the fucking thing if they recast Brandon Routh, even though he looked the part (he just didn’t do it for me).

Another nice thing about Goode being considered for the project is that since Snyder plans on relying mainly on CGI for the suit (just like The Green Lantern) this means that Goode wouldn’t haven’t to “beef up” for the part.  And I’ve gotta this guy definitely seems like a “good” fit.

In other “Man of Steel” news, next month Mattel will be releasing a 12″ Christopher Reeves Movie Masters Action Figure!  The figure will have a cloth-like replica from the suit in the movie, as well as a more muscular build.  The action figure will also consist of interchangeable hands, one for flight and one for punching.  Also included is a piece of the Fortress of Solitude with removal crystals.  The Superman action figure is the first figure being released in a series.  Next to follow will be General Zod on December 15th and a Lex Luthor as portrayed by Gene Hackman.  It seems like no matter how old, we get we never outgrow sweet toys like this and going for only 60 bucks we can add it to our bookshelves in no time!  Check out pics of the action figure after the jump!

Happy Birthday She-Ra!!!

she-ra_princess_of_power_229_1280

I could start this off by quoting the whole honor of Greyskull line but that would just make me look like a lazy bastard and I’m sure you would roll your eyes at it. Anyway, this year marked the 25th anniversary of She-Ra: Princess of Power. That’s right folks, the show with a female warrior that proved to boys that even girls can kick ass turned 25 years old.

CNN Entertainment did a pretty good article and an interview with the voice of She-Ra, Melendy Britt. The interview, which is available after the jump, consist of Britt explaining how She-Ra was a role model, who she thinks should play as She-Ra if they made a live action movie of it now, and Sea Hawk.

While I was only able to catch this and other He-Man shows through later syndication, you can’t deny the impact She-Ra has made in nerd pop culture. Leave a comment on any good memory that you have about She-Ra, the cartoons, the toys, etc. and also check out that interview after the break.

This is Why I’m Broke: All My Money Goes Towards Masters of The Universe Classics

IMG_8552__scaled_600

Of the many, many, toy announcements at SDCC, there might not have been any bigger—or more previously well-known—than Mattel’s new Masters of the Universe Classics line, which is made for collectors and sold to collectors at MattyCollector.com. MOTU Classics by Mattel celebrates the 25+ year history of its flagship toy line. The figures and packaging are a throwback to the original classic figures, but unlike their 80’s counterpart they are highly detailed and fully articulated. Each month 1 new figure (plus a bonus figure) is released to its exclusive website. Figures are given limited runs and when they hit the website they sell out quick, in just a few minutes. Over a dozen figures have been released in the last year or so. We’ve seen He-Man, Skeletor, Beast-Man and other core characters. We’ve also been privileged to get characters that haven’t seen a new figure since their original debut in the 80’s such as Scare Glow. We’ve even got a few figures that for whatever reason never got produced in original or proceeding lines. Such as He-Ro-The Most Powerful Sorcerer in The Universe, She-Ra’s alter ego- Princess Adora, Count Marzo and a few others. Anyway, us He-Man fans have been eagerly awaiting to see whats next.

Mattel’s panel at San-Diego Comic revealed what figures are lined up for the next 8 months and as with all previous line up announcements there is the good, the awesome and the bizarre.

Mattel Reveals SDCC Exclusive Toys That Fans Will Kill Over

photo01380_full

As you know, San Diego Comic Con is right around the corner, July 21st-25th. As another year of nerdy goodness comes are way so does a slew of new and exciting exclusive toys. It’s always been a staple for attendees to walk a way with a plastic treasure to commemorate the once a year event but as each year passes the toys seem to get cooler and cooler. As a result, a bit of jealousy takes over fans that are not able to attend. Toys nerds want, that they will probably never have, make nerds angry and as anyone knows you don’t want to make a nerd angry (really, just a bunch of screaming, sweating, panting and crying). Anyway, Comic-Con 2010 is set to be one of the best years yet for exclusive toys. Kicking off the exclusive toy news train comes an exclusive video from G4, who went to Mattel to see all it’s SDCC exclusive toys and boy….there going to be some real furious nerds.

Computer Engineer Barbie. Just… No.

barbie_desktop

Admittedly, I haven’t posted in a while (Thanks, work), but I had to rant about this. I’m most definitely not a Barbie girl. When someone tries to extol Barbie’s “virtues,” I slap my forehead and think, “Fuck. Me.” Not so for everyone, apparently. (more…)

Toy Story 3 Trailor: Oh Pixar, You’re Such a Tease

Toy Story 3

I love Pixar. I love Disney. I love Toy Story. And now, not only has Toy Story and TS2 come out as a double feature, the TS3 trailer has been released! These past few couple of weeks have been wonderful. So, a little tidbit of info about TS3: It is being produced by Pixar and released by Disney. Lee Unkrich is the director and was to co-director of TS2. The original actor John Morris is still voicing Andy. Mattel and Lego are designing toys to promote the film and Disney Interactive Studios will be creating a video game based on the film. The movie will be coming out on June 10, 2010.

The plot is simple. Andy, who is now 18 years old, is going away to college. All of his toys are going to be put away in storage but at the last minute and decides to keep Woody. Before the rest of his toys can be put into the attic, they are accidentally thrown into the trash. The garbage men pick up the toys and send them off to a local day-care center. Woody is now on a mission to help save his friends and find them new homes.

And all the old characters are back, of course!  Oh my goodness just got my first look at the new trailer!  Holy Hell it looks amazing! Enjoy. After the jump, you can check out the trailer, new character poster, and TS3 teaser poster.
