When you hear the word ‘rap’, what comes to mind? If you’re like me, it probably falls into the category of “Shit White People Shouldn’t Attempt Without Supervision”. With the obvious exception of Eminem and a handful of others, rap is another in a long line of musical genres that gave African-Americans a voice in difficult times. It was poetic, thought-provoking, in-your-face, and one hell of a market for exploitation. It has since become a mainstream oddity, somehow becoming extremely popular in spite of its often negative and explicit nature, as modern rap seems to have a chauvinistic, wealth-obsessed bent to it. There is light in the darkness, though, as another group has seemingly risen from the ashes of what hip-hop has become, intent on guiding the socially awkward toward a deeper understanding of what it is to be a nerd, and why liking what you like regardless of social status is totally badass. I’m talking about Nerdcore, the weird cousin of the Backpack Rap genre that revels in its oddity with unflinching, unapologetic, and insanely catchy anthems of staying home on prom night or dressing up for Comic-Con. To help you, I’ve compiled a list below of five Nerdcore Rap artists that most neatly encapsulate the genre and get you started on what is sure to be an epic quest. Go forth, young Padawan. (more…)
Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. ABOVE: And no, this isn’t one of Think Geek’s April Fool’s products, it’s for realzies. You too can own your own Captain’s Chair, an inflatable one y, as along as you’re under about 12o pounds. And I hate to say it, but I’m guessing most Trekkies don’t fall in that weight category. Damn you, Think Geek! (Nerd Approved)
We have to band together and make this happen. Long standing cartoon voice dude and lord of the nerd hip-hop, mc chris, wants his own damn cartoon, and I think they should give it to him. The animation is by Titmouse (the studio that does Venture Brothers, Super Jail, and Metalocalypse) and the story is about mc chris with a jet pack vs zombies. Do you need more? The official facebook fan page to show you want this on Adult Swim is here, and he’s even got a kickstarter set up over here. Hey, if you donate $5000 you can have a mc chris concert at your freaking house!
Or your Zune, if you have a Zune, did anyone actually ever have a Zune?
Let’s face it, the mainstream music scene is a wasteland of terrible premanufactured pop bands meant to sell products more than perform music. As we go through this crazy think called life it is hard enough to find a decent soundtrack to it on the radio. Couple that with our unique tastes as nerd,s geeks, and freaks and sometimes you have to work harder than a cat trying to bury a turn on a marble floor to find something worth listening to. Where is our music? We are here to help.
Nerds rock, so do geeks and we’re going to prove it. The following ten acts cover the spread of Nerd Rock, Hip Hop and, music in general. Some you may know, some will be new to you. ALL should be enjoyed.
Everyone has their favorite tunes they jam to. Whether it be pop, rock, rap, hip-hop or country (me, I’m kind of a folk-rock nerd. I love me some banjo), but there is one type of music we can agree upon, nerdy tunes and parodies. The internet is ripe with parodies and original songs celebrating everything we hold dear; gaming, Star Wars, those hot chicks cosplaying sexy outfits forcing you to excuse yourself. We all know what you’re doing in that convention hall bathroom, you dirty boy.
Here’s a list of ten of the best nerdy music videos and parodies on the webz. Get ready to rock out with your Spock out!
“I Kissed A Nerd” by Damsels of Dorkington
Once you’ve gone nerd, you’ll never, umm…leave the herd? I’m terrible at rhyming. But this video from the Damsels of Dorkington is a fantastic epiphany of a song in which we learn, hey, nerdy guys (and gals) can be a hot date. Sometimes you want brain over brawn, and nerds have huge brains.
In the Star Wars universe, is there any character that is as cool, bad-ass and suave as Han Solo? This is, of course, not including the greatest character in that universe: Boba Fett. Because face it, you don’t mess with the Fett.
Since singer and songwriter mc chris already did a song about Boba Fett, entitled Fett’s Vett, it was only a matter of time before he crafted an anthem for the smuggler with a heart of gold: Han Solo.
It may not be the best song out there, and it can be quite difficult to understand the lyrics, but it’s a song about Han Solo put to clips of the original Star Wars trilogy. How is that not an automatic win?
SO…..You may have heard the song “Fette’s Vette” by MC Chris…There is a montage of 80’s themed wardrobe changes to it in Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
SO….. This vid is fanmade, not even by me, but…It shows certain still frames of Boba Fette from perhaps a Star Wars special, or deleted scenes (If you know, comment). And it kind of goes through a lyricly displayed picture vid.
If you’ve never heard the song, at least listen to it through the first verse to the first chorus.
