As April Ludgate on the cult favorite sitcom Parks and Recreation, and Julie Powers in Edgar Wright‘s 2010 film adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Aubrey Plaza has essentially made a name for herself as Nerddom’s bitter, misanthropic sweetheart. She has accomplished the rare feat of combining an acid tongue and dour demeanor with an undeniable, and almost inexplicable appeal.

Sound like anyone the Internet knows?

That’s right: The sour-faced feline actually named Tardar Sauce, but better known by her “stage name”–Grumpy Cat–will star in her own Christmas special on the cable network Lifetime, and Ms. Plaza will provide the online phenomenon’s voice. More after the jump:  (more…)

shit-nerds-never-sayRemember when that viral video/meme about the “Shit ______ Never Say” was making the rounds? That is not a rhetorical question, the speed of the internet has rotted my brain away to the point where I don’t know if it was last month or sometime shortly after penicillin was discovered.

Regardless, it is old, outdated and therefore no long funny, right? WRONG. This past weekend Filmmaker Bill Scurry took to New York Comic-Con to breath new life into the long dead burnout husk of a joke with some rather amusing (and telling results.) The Next 60 seconds hits pretty close to home with ‘Shit Nerds Never Say‘ from con attendees including the most convincing Lloyd Kaufman of Troma fame cosplay I have ever seen. I defy you to disagree with Scurry’s findings. Video up after the jump. (more…)

This time on The BastardCast, Jason and Jeremy pull a 180 after watching the new RoboCop trailer, warn you about the first ever GTA related virus that didn’t come from banging a pixelated hooker in a car park, and go back to school to learn about zombie stuff and things.

Also on the show: This Week in OMG/Total BS Star Wars News, another DC writer leaves the nest (and shits in it too), Will Smith gets ready to have a meeting in an airport Ramada about returning to his signature role (WILD WILD WILD WESTER here we come!), and Transformers 4 gets a title that we don’t care about (look forward to our 180 on The Dinobot Holocaust in a future episode.)

More? We can not deny you the news about an internet addiction treatment center (step one is admitting that you have a problem, step two is joining Google +), our sparkling repartee about the next iteration of the Bat suit, or our questions about whether Elizabeth Berkely (Showgirls & Saved by the Bell… we’re just helping you so you don’t have to use IMDB) can successfully undulate on dry land without the aid of Kyle MacLachlan’s magical unicorn penis on Dancing with the Stars?

By the way, If you have to ask, yes, this next story is readymade to make you scratch your head to the point where it leaves scar tissue: a mail room worker tried to take her career to higher ground by claiming to know the lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chris Nolan, assuming that Hollywood would give it away… now.

Oh, and here is the that BatFleck Batsuit they talked about… see? They posted the link. GO TEAM!

What the Fox Say? He say re-subscribe to the show on iTunes, there may be a glitch in the system that is conspiring to keep you away from us! He also says that the half life of a meme is less than the amount of time that it takes to.. what were we talking about?

All that and Jeremy Argh Hudson on the lightness of beering during the autumnal treat that is, The BastardCast!drunk-cat

Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

Above: There are Lara Croft cosplayers then there’s Jenn Croft. A lifelong Tomb Raider fan, Croft has 12 different Lara Croft costumes and is currently remaking the classic outfit. Here you can see her modelling what I believe is the current outfit from the upcoming game. Geek Tyrant has a whole gallery of photography from Adam Jay you should definitely check out. They’re fantastic, no cheesecake, just seriously sexy.

Mario and Luigi have been fighting Koopas for a long time now, eventually they’d need to try out some new moves. Watch the Mario Bros. train with nunchucks to what of course must their favorite training tune. (Fashionably Geek)

The Doctor Who parody, Inspector Spacetime that appeared on Community this passed week, yeah, it already has a fast-growing fanbase. A fanbase surrounding a fake show. These are the things the internet was made for. To brush up on our new favorite meme check out io9.

James Van Der Beek, who is best known for playing Dawson on Dawson’s Creek has single-handily created a new internet sensation – James Van Der Memes.

Now, for those less Internet savvy out there, a meme is an idea/thought/video that spreads through the Internet. One of the most popular is the picture located above, with Dawson crying after his girlfriend broke up with him.

Van Der Beek explains it very well in the video below.

The website in the video, James Van Der Memes, is a fully functional website that is hilarious to look through. Personally, my favorite is the Stud Wink and the Dramatic Dawson (as well as the other videos on that site).

Go to the site, I guarantee you’ll have a nice laugh and it will put a smile on your face.
