I know what you’re thinking – that’s a mighty bold statement you’re making there in the title, sailor. Now hold up, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers, I’mma let you finish… but Ant-Man just may truly be one of the greatest Marvel films of all time. Of all time!
WARNING: Mild spoilers ahead – I did my best to keep quiet about the big stuff, but some parts of the film required a little explanation in the review.
Ant-Man hasn’t been released yet, but the sudden upswing in the tenor and quality of the hype surrounding it has got people thinking, what about Ant-Man 2? Of course, Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Studios‘ last surprising-but-not-surprising original hit, was approved for a sequel before it opened, and though Marvel may be locked in with release dates through to 2019, like Spider-Man proved, schedules can be changed if you give the studio a reason. Peyton Reed, director of Ant-Man, is hoping that he can make a case for another Marvel film, one that will deal exclusively with the background of one of Ant-Man’s main characters, who, in his comic book life, was one of the founding members of The Avengers, Hank Pym. Most Marvel fans know to go expect a few curveballs in their movies, (and to ALWAYS stay during the ending credits!), but was a major Ant-Man spoiler revealed by hands other than Marvel’s? LEGO already has a track record of such leaks; such dropping the Iron Man 3 plot twist with Aldrich Killian, and giving us a view of the Vision before his poster was officially revealed. This time the victim of possible spoilage is Ant-Man, by way of an interesting image for an Ant-Man LEGO set. (more…)
If you think you haven’t gotten a good enough look at Ant-Man yet, prepare to have your understanding of movie marketing adjusted. As promised, Marvel Studios and Disney have released the first full trailer of the upcoming superhero film this morning, and it shows off a lot of action and character moments while setting up pretty effectively the film’s story. Long in development and highly anticipated, Ant-Man will coming out hot on the heels of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which box office experts have reported is expected to make a billion cagillion dollars on its opening weekend. So will Ant-Man be able to captialize on Marvel mania, or will it be the studio’s first real bomb? Perhaps the trailer will give you a hint… (more…)
Oh yeah, Ant-Man comes out in July. Sorry, Ant-Man, but with Avengers: Age of Ultron coming out in a few short weeks, Daredevil hitting the interwebs today, and Agents of S.H.I.E.D. on TV weekly, there’s more than enough Marvel Studios goodness to go around right now. But yes, Ant-Man is coming, and just as the market’s been flooded with new Avengers stuff lately, we’re getting a new insight into the smallest superhero in the biz. Or at least his arch-nemesis. We’ve known for a while that The Strain star Corey Stoll was playing bad guy Darren Cross in the latest superhero adaptation, but now we know what he looks like all dressed up and ready to kill as Yellowjacket. (more…)
Joss Whedon. Now that I have your attention, let’s talk about Avengers: Age of Ultron, which, as I’m sure you already know, comes out in a theater near you in just over two months time. Apparently, some of you are a little miffed that Whedon in his infinite wisdom decided to tweak the titular villain’s origin for the film by making him a creation of Iron Man Tony Stark as opposed to using his comic book creator Dr. Henry Pym. Well, it turns out that Whedon feels your pain. Ultron’s origins was one of many questions addressed by Whedon in an interview done during the production of the Avengers sequel. (more…)
It’s pretty much a given that once a trailer hits the Internet that fans are going to mess around with it. Perhaps it’s changing something that just didn’t sit right and bugged them about it, or maybe it’s just an exercise in editing to kill some time and learn some new skills. Whatever sparks that desire to make changes, you’ve got to love the act of fandom that drove them to it. This time around YouTube user Patrick (H) Willems decided that Peyton Reed‘s Ant-Man trailer was missing something. Nothing big, just a small detail, in fact this might just be the quickest change one could make. (more…)
Earlier this week Marvel teased a literally tiny version teaser, which teased the long awaited full trailer for Ant-Man. No cheap gimmicks tonight. The full trailer, which premiered during the pilot episode of Marvel’s Agent Carter, is available now. It is, well, it’s not nearly as exciting as Marvel’s other cinematic entries. But maybe that’s just me, watch the trailer below and judge for yourself. (more…)
Later tonight we’ll get the first full trailer for Peyton Reed‘s Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd. We’ve seen Rudd in his scruffy Scott Lang duds and now you can check out what he’ll look like in his new super suit! As a bonus, we’ve got the new poster that’s soon to be hanging in theaters around the world and you can see it right here. (more…)
Marvel had some fun with Ant-Man fans and the Internet the other day by releasing the first Ant-Man teaser in ant sized form. It didn’t take the Internet long to super size that teaser, but the quality was horrendous so we passed on posting it. Who wants to waste time clicking to see blurred out images that even Paul Rudd‘s mother couldn’t recognize? Thankfully, Marvel took pity on those of us without Pym Particles and re-released the teaser in a more human sized version. (more…)
