It’s interesting that the finale of Christopher Nolan‘s Dark Knight trilogy will be making its debut this summer, and so will Tim Burton‘s film reboot of Dark Shadows, given that Batman was once Burton’s baby. Some fans will tell you Burton’s run was better than Nolan’s, others will say that Nolan kicks ass and the rest are just plain stupid.
Well, what does Burton have to say about this, himself?
I always get told that my material is dark, but nowadays my version of Batman looks like a lighthearted romp in comparision to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight.
Although he didn’t go into much detail, this is a pretty powerful comment because we all know what Burton’s style is like.
He also talked a bit about Michelle Pfieffer‘s portrayal of Catwoman back in the day. Not gonna lie, Anne Hathaway has some HUGE heels to fill.
For me, her version of Catwoman was one of my favourite performances on any movie I had worked on. I remember how she impressed me by letting a live bird fly out of her mouth, learning how to use a whip and dancing around on rooftops with high-heeled shoes on. She did all that stuff for real. I hadn’t really talked to her for about 20 years, and she called before I had started working on Dark Shadows, and she told me how much she loved the old TV series and she wanted to be involved.
As my cousin said to me today, “The Dark Knight Rises is going to be life changing.”

I’m really underwhelmed with Dark Shadows, so let’s look at our first image from The Lone Ranger to start off. Featured here are Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the Ranger himself. What do you think?
Not gonna lie, and I doubt I’ll be the first or last to say this, but does Depp as Tonto come off as slightly racist to you? The makeup and costume look great, don’t get me wrong, but were there no American Indian actors available or willing to take the part? I know the original part wasn’t very considerate to American Indians so maybe no one wanted the part, but you don’t cast Johnny Depp when you’ve run out of options. I don’t know, nowadays when a white actor plays an ethnic role you can’t help but get a little squeamish about whether or not it’s appropriate.
Otherwise, I think Hammer looks great! As of right now Disney‘s The Lone Ranger is set to release May 31st, 2013.
More Depp after the jump!
I’ve always loved watching Johnny Depp transform into completely different people from one movie to the next. Sometimes it takes a while before it really clicks that you’re looking at Johnny Depp; his ability to take on a role is pretty damn masterful.
We’ve got an awesome shot here of Depp in his next film, Dark Shadows, in which he plays the vampire Barnabus. It’s directed by Tim Burton (of course) and co-stars Michelle Pfeiffer. The flick will be released in theaters on May 11, 2012. It already looks better than other vampire films
