As the hype builds for the release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second film of the Hobbit trilogy, there comes news about other Middle Earth developments, in this case, of the video game variety. The game, which is called Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, features an original story about a ranger who’s killed with his family the night Sauron returns only to be resurrected with Wraith-like powers to embark on a mission of vengeance. Actual Hobbit Pub Opens In Hobbiton, New Zealand

- 12-12-12Cool Stuff, Film Posted by Chris D.

Turns out that the Hobbits all live in Kiwi-land (i.e. New Zealand). This actually makes perfect sense. Why didn’t I think about that before?

Hobbiton has been a thing since 2002; it’s a tourist village in New Zealand that’s been modeled after Middle Earth. It’s also where The Hobbit was filmed, so tourism is expected to increase substantially once the movie is released.  The Lord of the Rings trilogy was also filmed not far from there, in the town of Matamata.

Just in time for Hobbiton’s 10th anniversary this coming weekend, they’ve opened up a Hobbit pub called the Green Dragon.  The Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, cut the ribbon (in this case, cut the chain with bolt cutters) at the opening ceremony.

As part of the tourist attraction, guests can stop by for some boozin’ at the end of their tour on the way out.  Because, well, why the hell would they want to deal with the drunks?  Just leave ‘em off to the side.  They’ll be fine.

Jump as far as you can for more pictures of the pub and see for yourself how it would feel to drink in Middle Earth, yourself.

Is there a Batman and Robin, Jason Todd, pieta? (GeekTyrant)

Orlando Bloom Confirmed for Hobbit – Nerdy girls swoon!

- 05-27-11Film, Uncategorized Posted by Mark Poynter

Nerdy girls everywhere felt a slight tremble in the force today as Peter Jackson updated his Facebook page letting the world know that Orlando Bloom is officially on board to reprise his role as Legolas in The Hobbit. Everyone expected him to come back, but now everyone can breath a sigh of relief with the confirmation. Jackson had this to say,

Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. I’m excited to announce today that we’ll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. I’m thrilled to be working with Orlando again. Funny thing is, I look older—and he doesn’t! I guess that’s why he makes such a wonderful elf.
