And it’s a sweet Christmas indeed! Hot off the trails of Marvel’s Netflix original series’ Daredevil Season’s 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones, comes the fourth installment in the Marvel Cinematic TV Universe, in the steel-hard grip of Luke Cage.
This article is based off half in the 13 episode run. It will discuss what to expect as far as the tonal qualities from the show as well as character performances and motivations. So basically its Spoiler free.
Like it’s predecessors, location is a central character in the all around tone and vibe the show emits. In Daredevil, Hell’s Kitchen’s gritty confines gave the show an immediate palpable danger. In Jessica Jones, we’re given a broader stroke of the New York landscape, traveling from Hell’s Kitchen to the Upper West Side and beyond. With Luke Cage, we’re given Harlem. Bathed in a familiar yellow colored light in almost every scene and second only to Cage himself, Harlem IS the main character of the show. From the very beginning, the pulse, the sounds and the soul of the city beat like an unending drum. Sometime’s the beats are slow, smooth and cool, other times furious and untamed. Harlem is ever present; its landscape feels small and intimate but the characters it’s bred are loud, large and dangerous. (more…)

Will there be some hints or even a cameo of the upcoming Iron Fist? Maybe, but even if there isn’t Marvel has set a high bar and it will be interesting to see if Luke Cage can maintain that high standard. (more…)

Those of you who’ve already burned through all thirteen episodes of Netflix‘s Daredevil Season Two might have missed a gem at the end if you didn’t watch everything, including the credits. So far, the collaboration between Netflix and Marvel Studios has been two-for-two with Daredevil and Jessica Jones, but can they make it three-for-three? That will be the big question when Luke Cage debuts on the streaming site later this year, but when will that be precisely? Cage will have a leg up because the character’s already been introduced in Jessica Jones, but it will be a bold new step for the Marvel Movie and TV Universe as it will be the first to feature an African-American hero, one with a cult following and a lot of history. So when will you get a chance to see Luke Cage? Think “Back to School.” (more…)
Word is making the Internet rounds that Marvel has found their Iron Fist lead in Game of Thrones star Finn Jones. Earlier this year Luke Cage lead Mike Colter teased:
The actor has been cast, but he’s in a basement somewhere. When the time is right, they’ll let him up and tell him where he is.
Now that Jones is cast, we can start to wonder when he’ll make his Marvel debut. (more…)
Marvel seems to be as on top of their game as ever. After dominating the world of superhero cinema for the past seven years, Marvel decided last year to revolutionize longform television series involving superheroes. First, they redeemed Daredevil in a way no one thought possible, with an explosive, violent, street level show. Then, they topped themselves with the gritty noir that is Jessica Jones. Jessica Jones blew fans away when it debuted on Netflix in November, partially by embracing what Marvel consistently does so well, which is to allow their properties to explore different genres, telling stories that happen to involve superheroes rather than trying to build a story around a superhero. This year fans are getting a second season of Daredevil, followed by a new series, Luke Cage, and it appears that the hits are going to keep on coming. Jessica Jones has been confirmed for a second season!
While there are a great number of things happening this weekend at NYCC15, the gathering of 3/4’s of Netflix and Marvel‘s Defenders might just be one of the highlights for many fans. Daredevil‘s Charlie Cox, Jesscia Jones‘ Krysten Ritter, and Luke Cage‘s Mike Colter took part in Press Roundtables and then in a big signing along with Joe Quesada, Jeph Loeb, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Jon Bernthal. Ever since online-streaming-service-turned-original-content-provider Netflix unleashed Daredevil to the masses and showed the world that Marvel Comics properties can do more than dazzle on the big screen, us fan-types have been asking what’s next? and can it measure up? We don’t have much longer to wait: premiering next month is the next offering between the two entertainment powerhouses, Marvel’s Jessica Jones. Now, we get to kick off October in the right way, with a brand new teaser!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to debut its next series on Netflix, Jessica Jones by the end of the year. In addition to featuring the character of Jessica Jones, a former superheroine turned private investigator, it will also feature the debut of superhero Luke Cage, who will then go on to star in his own Netflix series. While the Luke Cage Netflix series will be premiering sometime in 2016, casting is now well underway. Villains and heroes are now taking shape.
It is known that Mike Colter (The Good Wife) will play Luke Cage, while Oscar-nominee Alfre Woodard is reportedly onboard – and now, more familiar TV actors have just joined the hard-bitten series. (more…)
