You might recall an enthusiastic push from fans prior to the casting of Andrew Garfield as The Amazing Spider-Man to give the role to Community co-star Donald Glover. You might even remember Glover egging that campaign on, and wearing Spider-Man pajamas in the second season premiere of Community. True, Glover didn’t get the part, but when the nerd gods close a door, they also open a window. And with that, we get the news that Glover has been cast to give voice to Ultimate universe Spidey Miles Morales in the new season of the Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. (The series is being re-named for its third season.) (more…)
With the expanding TASM universe, one has to wonder if we’ll ever see another character take up the mantle of Spider-Man on screen. If the rumor that Andrew Garfield won’t return for a fourth film is true, then we would definitely have to find another web-slinger to take his place, but could it be another character altogether? Perhaps, the character that took over for Peter Parker in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, Miles Morales? Click on through to see what the current Spider-Man had to say on the possibility of passing the torch. (more…)
After 12 years, the main Marvel 616 Universe is crossing over with the Ultimate 1610 Universe in the form of Spider-Men, the meeting up of Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
In today’s announcement from Marvel, the much teased Spider-Men, will be a miniseries released in June from writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli. Jim Cheung will be doing primary cover art, but there will be variants.
So what incredible circumstances bring the Spider-Men together? Read the Marvel Press Release and check out some preview art, AFTER THE JUMP…
Before you put down that cup of joe and officially wake up this morning, take a gander at news right off the heels of DC’s big announcement for Watchmen. Wait for it…Marvel has released teaser art for a new addition to the Spider-man canon yet again. With a release date set for June 2012, Peter Parker is back in what is speculated by some websites to be a crossover into the Ultimate Universe with Miles Morales, or he could be featured in his own Ultimate arc altogether (Ultimate Peter Parker). So once again, siblings in rivalry, Marvel and DC have brought out two events that will effect a popular and well known canon.
I’m not sure if I’m completely on board with this new addition to the Spidery-verse, whatever way you look at the new edition for the Spider-man arc it almost seems to be taking away from a new and original spin on the current Spidey aka Miles Morales. This “chicana” doesn’t approve! Rob Bricken from Topless Robot put it best, in that this visual teaser:
” is a picture of the Peter Parker Ultimate Spider-Man’s logo and the new Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man’s logo, just mushed together.”
So I add to my argument, that if the company takes a step backward and returns Peter Parker to the Ultimate Universe, it will negate any progress made into Miles Morales’ story line, which has only been in print for about 6-8 months. Is there something I’m not seeing? Are sales for the Ultimate Spider-man Miles Morales not meeting quota or are you doing what I suspect, which is adding to the canon in a way that really isn’t necessary at the moment for the hype. There is no reason to reset a canon again, but if this is just a particular arc that will have Peter go away soon after, and leave Miles Morales with more experience and ready to take on an even bigger challenge in his respective Universe then I could possibly live with this announcement.
Yet as of this moment, Spider-Men is not letting out a peep on its story line or purpose. Stay tuned, ’cause I’m sure the announcement will be coming soon.
Not to be outdone, considering that the new Ultimate Spider-Man is the half-black/half-Latino Miles Morales, DC Comic is introducing Bunker, a Mexican lad who’s openly gay. How do you know he’s gay? He wears a sweater vest over a purple and pink shirt. Natch.
For those of us that haven’t freaked out on message boards or burned copies of Ultimate Spider-Man yet, the new Spider-man is a young African-American male named, Miles Morales. The news was hit with a ton of negative and racist comments online but that hasn’t stopped Marvel from making the change in the Ultimate universe.
For those that don’t know, anything can happen in the parallel universe known as the Ultimate series; heroes can die and sometimes someone else needs to step up. Your beloved Peter Parker is still alive in his own universe, so get over it. But with the ability to do whatever they want, continuity be damned, Marvel may have some big plans further down the line for Miles.
Creators of the series have said that they haven’t ruled out a gay Spider-Man and that stopped nugget of information is creating all kinds of confusion.
