A reboot of the perennial 1980’s cartoon favorite Masters Of The Universe has been in development for years, working it’s way through multiple scripts and writers until this year when it was announced Sony Pictures appointed director McG to helm the new live-action film about the most powerful man in the universe. Yes, the same movie studio that brought you the failed Ghostbusters reboot and all those terrible Spider-man (though Andrew Garfield was a bomb as Spider-Man) and Ghostrider movies, tapped the guy that’s responsible for Terminator Salavation. While the groans of fandom here and wide can still be heard at the involvement of McG, there is a recent word from the director himself that may give some fans a moment of pause. (more…)
With the pending home video release of Gareth Edwards‘ 2014 reboot of Godzilla coming to a retailer near you in another week, we pause to do some navel gazing at all the things that he did wrong in the film. YEAH! Take that Edwards. You may be still growing as a filmmaker, and Godzilla was only your second movie, but since you didn’t make the Godzilla movie we all had playing in our heads we’re going to tear you a new one! Ahem. Now that I’ve got that out of my system, let’s introduce a couple of new videos to hit the interwebs today. On the one hand we have a judicious You Tuber who edited together all the Godzilla and MOTU bits in two vids that show how little screen time they all got, and secondly, Honest Trailers has put together a – well – honest trailer for Godzilla. San Diego Comic Con 2012 is quickly approaching (July 11th-15th). As another year of nerdy goodness comes our way, so does a slew of new and exciting exclusive toys/collectibles.
Having scoured the net for SDCC items, I can’t say I’m that impressed with this years selection. Past years have been better. Still, there’s enough desirables to break a toy geeks wallet. I for one, want the He-man power sword letter opener, Hasbro’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier and the Star Wars Special Edition Carbonite Chamber Collectors Pack. Oh, and I want the (resurrected) JEM doll by Hasbro. What? Jem is contagious. Jem is outrageous! And I expect you, the reader, to buy them for me. Come on, I supply you with news and entertainment everyday. The least you can do is buy me a few toys. Eh, I kid. You don’t have to buy me toys. Naked pictures of your mom would be adequate recompense.*smirk*
So, I rifled off the 4 biggest collector items, but there’s a lot more product. So much so that Comic Con should be renamed Collectible Con. Meh, lame joke. How about we get to the toys, shall we?
