NES

Just about everyone growing up in the 1990s who had an NES will be happy to learn that some of CAPCOM’s greatest games of the era based on some Disney classics are getting a remake and re-release! Disney Afternoon featured two hours of beloved Disney characters all tied to the same shared universe. Darkwing Duck, Talespin, DuckTales, and Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers entertained kids (and let’s face it, plenty of adults) every afternoon. CAPCOM had the task of turning these beloved products into video games, and now they are coming back for an entirely new generation of fans.

Nintendo seems to be in the news a lot these days, between Pokémon GO becoming the massive hit it is, filmmakers looking to make a Pokémon movie, and Pokémon Sun and Moon set to release later this year… well, it all seems to be Pokémon, huh? Well, Nintendo is looking to take you to a time before Pokécraze hit the U.S., when the lords of gaming were names like Mario, Pac-Man, and Zelda, controllers only had a few buttons, and our consoles were limited to 8-bit processors that wouldn’t even stack up to a modern calculator in terms of power. But that was alright, because game-play was king, and Nintendo set themselves firmly on top of the mountain. (more…)

We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. Above: They’re at it again — the fine folks at All C’s Collectibles in Aurora, Colorado are continuing in their crusade to help the victims of the Aurora Theater tragedy with Aurora Rise. This time they had J. Scott Campbell on hand for a signing at their shop and according to the Aurora Rise Facebook page (which you should absolutely like) they raised over $900 for the victims. To learn more about the Aurora Rise cause and how you can help, go to AuroraRise.org.

And the greatest video game of all time is… Abobo’s Big Adventure (aka Abobo Vs. The NES Universe)

Abobo, the big bald thug from Double Dragon (the video game and very regrettable live- action film) is one of those classic 8-bit goons that time forgot, but here is….fucking up a horde of thugs from Kung-Fu Master, the old man from Legend of Zelda and Death from Castlevania, among hundreds of other NES characters. Yes, this is a real game! It’s coming, for free, from our new favorite friends at I-Mockery.com

Watch the head exploding, jizz inducing, rock your socks off trailer below:

It’s shit like this that keeps my faith in humanity. Seriously, fuck Arkham City, GW3, COD:MW3, Skyrim – Abobo’s Big Adventure is the most EPIC WIN in gaming history! Prepare for the power of Abobo!

Old Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) games were my bread and butter as a kid.

I was the first one of my friends to have one, and became a guru of games like Duck Hunt, Tetris and Super Mario Brothers. That is why I’m always happy when someone calls back to those wonderful games.

The geeky folks over at College Humor created a beautiful rendition of the Matt Groening television show, Futurama, as a classic NES game. It looks very similar to the old Simpson’s games on that system, which makes the video all the better.

Enjoy!

NES Games Name Game

NES

What is the greatest gaming system that has ever been invented? Keep in mind, I am not talking about graphics or story or any of that other stuff … which console created the games that we all still talk about with reverence? What console created most of the characters that we all know and love?

The answer is, and always shall be, the original Nintendo Entertainment System (commonly known as the NES).

The NES was released in the United States wayy back on October 18, 1985, which means that it’s 25th anniversary just passed a few days ago. In honor of that, the folks at NESGuides decided to showcase the sheer variety of games that the NES played host for.

The video below demonstrates the sheer variety of different NES games that were released in North America (almost 750 of them in 15 minutes, which equates to around 1.1 seconds being devoted to each) in the 10 years the system was produced. While still in alphabetical order, it is a near impossible task to name them all.

How many can you name? For those who are stumped, the list below the jump will answer all your questions.

Enjoy and good luck!!

If you’ve ever owned an NES, and who hasn’t, you wanted it bigger and better as you got older. Some people have gone so far to make tables that look like the 27 year old system’s controller (seen here). Well now you too can sleep in your very own NES bed! That’s right you can sleep in sheets that were designed to look like the Nintendo Entertainment System. It even has pillows that are NES controllers.
Unfortunately, these are one of a kind bed sheets, sorry fellow nerds. It was made by the mother of one big gaming geek now dreaming of saving the princess over and over again. Check out this bed below for yourself and start telling your folks you want these made for Christmas. Bonus points if you get Super Famicom sheets.

Tribute: 25 Years Of Super Mario

super_mario_revolution

So September 13th, 2010 marked the 25th Anniversary of the Super Mario franchise (and yes I know we’re a day late, big whoop, wanna fight about it). Nintendo released this awesome tribute video of the plumber in action. So why is a Sonic/Sony fanboy writing this post about Mario you ask? It’s all about respect, for every generation of video game consoles since of the NES days, Nintendo has been able to make some sort of Super Mario game that makes an impact for that generation.

Check the video out as it’s nothing but 5 and a half minutes of pure Mario action that ranges from the Fire Flower power to the mother effin’ Bee Suit. Also, why don’t you leave a comment by telling us what was your favorite Mario game as we pay tribute to Mario and not to Luigi.
