The final International Trailer for Payton Reed‘s Ant-Man has hit the Internet and it delivers one of the movies best punch lines and direct reference to the much larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. The music is an interesting choice as well, perhaps James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy‘s musical influence is what we’ll see in all future Marvel films. Check it out after the jump. (more…)

Ant-Man

If you weren’t already aware, Marvel‘s latest movie Ant-Man has had some issues during pre-production when the first director Edgar Wright left over creative differences. Throw in the uncertainty a lot of Marvel fans have over a movie about Ant-Man and you’ve got an Internet cocktail that surpasses all the worries fans and many studio executives had about James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy. Now we all know how that turned out, but can director Peyton Reed do the same or better with Ant-Man? (more…)

I’m not sure if this a violation of franchise/franchisee confidentiality, but recently Joss Whedon, director of The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, talked about Ant-Man. Before there was The Avengers, before there was even an Iron Man, Ant-Man was slowly gathering steam under the direction of Edgar Wright, the filmmaker most famous for the zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead. Wright’s years of toil were about to pay-off when, all of a sudden, he was out and Peyton Reed was in as Ant-Man director. Jesus wept, and so did the internet, because we were now robbed of the presumptive awesomeness of Wright’s Ant-Man. But Marvel Studios told us to chill, and now, Whedon himself is saying that from what he’s read, we’re right to miss what would have been Wright’s vision for the character. (more…)

If you think you haven’t gotten a good enough look at Ant-Man yet, prepare to have your understanding of movie marketing adjusted. As promised, Marvel Studios and Disney have released the first full trailer of the upcoming superhero film this morning, and it shows off a lot of action and character moments while setting up pretty effectively the film’s story. Long in development and highly anticipated, Ant-Man will coming out hot on the heels of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which box office experts have reported is expected to make a billion cagillion dollars on its opening weekend. So will Ant-Man be able to captialize on Marvel mania, or will it be the studio’s first real bomb? Perhaps the trailer will give you a hint… (more…)

Oh yeah, Ant-Man comes out in July. Sorry, Ant-Man, but with Avengers: Age of Ultron coming out in a few short weeks, Daredevil hitting the interwebs today, and Agents of S.H.I.E.D. on TV weekly, there’s more than enough Marvel Studios goodness to go around right now. But yes, Ant-Man is coming, and just as the market’s been flooded with new Avengers stuff lately, we’re getting a new insight into the smallest superhero in the biz. Or at least his arch-nemesis. We’ve known for a while that The Strain star Corey Stoll was playing bad guy Darren Cross in the latest superhero adaptation, but now we know what he looks like all dressed up and ready to kill as Yellowjacket. It’s pretty much a given that once a trailer hits the Internet that fans are going to mess around with it. Perhaps it’s changing something that just didn’t sit right and bugged them about it, or maybe it’s just an exercise in editing to kill some time and learn some new skills. Whatever sparks that desire to make changes, you’ve got to love the act of fandom that drove them to it. This time around YouTube user Patrick (H) Willems decided that Peyton Reed‘s Ant-Man trailer was missing something. Nothing big, just a small detail, in fact this might just be the quickest change one could make. (more…)

Ant-Man Poster

The Ant-Man trailer was classified last week, which means there’s a good chance we are going to see it premiere soon – word on the street is Marvel Studios are going to debut it during the premiere of Agent Carter, which starts on January 6. So what do we expect to see? Paul Rudd as Ant-Man is a good call, possibly some Michael Douglas action as Lang’s predecessor and mentor Hank Pym, maybe Pym’s daughter played by Evangeline Lilly and perhaps even Corey Stoll as Yellow Jacket? Giving that Yellow Jacket is the main villain and he’s going to change progressively throughout the movie, it would make more sense if we see less of Stoll’s villain before the release of the film. However, going by the new banner, that might not be the case. (more…)

When Edgar Wright left Marvel‘s Ant-Man, the prospect of keeping the production on schedule seemed improbable; what, with the film looking for another director to fill Wright’s shoes, compounded by the rumors that changes had been made to the original script (apparently the straw that broke the camels back and finalised Wright’s decision to “part ways” with Marvel). It just seemed like everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. But, low and behold, Peyton Reed jumped on board and re-wrote the script along with the help of Paul Rudd, and things started moved along rather nicely. Thusly, production has now wrapped on the filming, and it is headed into post-production with its original summer 2015 release date still intact. (more…)

Evangeline Lilly

Edgar Wright fans and Ant-Man fans were dealt a crushing blow when Wright decided to leave the project after spending eight years working on the movie adaptation. Nobody quite knows what happened, but it’s no secret that Marvel henchman Kevin Feige is pretty hands on with all the Marvel projects. The natural assumption has been that Wright was not willing to give away too much creative freedom, and when Marvel decided to change parts of the original script he and Joe Cornish (Attack Of The Block) had worked on, he’d had enough. To this day, nobody really knows the real reason Wright left and it’s pretty much all based on speculation. However, now Evangeline Lilly – who is playing Hope Van Dyne (Hank Pym‘s daughter) – has offered her take on the whole debacle. (more…)
