Last night, a new Harry Potter story came out to the masses in book stores, albeit in a different format than what we had come to know and love; Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the official eighth story starring The Boy Who Lived is, as you’re probably already aware, a stage-play script released in book format. Despite the unconventional format, people are very excited for more Harry Potter stories to dive into all the same. However, people had been wondering if there was even more stories untold from the lightning scarred English wizard in our future… well, Potter-author J.K. Rowling recently gave us an answer. (more…)
Yesterday, a ton of information about the North American Wizarding School hit the Pottermore along with a new story. The new movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based onthe book by J.K. Rowling, should give us a closer look at the school later this November, but fans can go online now at Pottermore and take the North American Wizarding School House Quiz that helps place students in the house that suits them best. We’ve got the breakdown on the four new houses and the link to take the quiz. (more…)
J.K. Rowling doesn’t have to write another word the rest of her life and Harry Potter fans wouldn’t really be able to complain, but that’s what writers do, they write. You can be sure that once Rowling finished that last Potter novel she told herself that she’d never go back, yet she finds herself dipping her toes back in the Potter Pool at Pottermore. This time around she’s penned a history of the Potter family, where the name came from and other interesting things that happened to the Potter Clan. (more…)
It wasn’t just the fact that James and Lily Potter were a beautiful couple with extraordinary wealth and power that made the Dursleys hate them. Oh no, there was bad blood between these blood-related
families, and that’s why poor Harry Potter had to live in a closet for the majority of his stay with the fat, bloated Muggle antagonists of the Harry Potter novels.
Author J.K. Rowling occasionally returns to the Harry Potter back-story well to release well-timed tidbits aimed at keeping the Potterverse pot simmering, and this Tuesday, the story of the Dursley-Potter falling out went live on its official fansite: Pottermore. (more…)
Harry Potter fans rejoice! J.K. Rowling continues to dip her toes into the Potter Universe. Every now and then Rowling adds to the Potter Mythos by posting new smatterings of content to the Pottermore site, recently posting a closer look at one of the Potterverse characters that was only mentioned three times in the series and never appeared in person. Who could it be? You’re gonna have to click-through to find out! (more…)
Since the last page of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, fans have been understandably curious as to what future fate the gang from Hogwarts has, and while fanfic has rushed in to fill the void (across the spectrum of acceptability for all-ages reading), there hasn’t been much in the way of canon aside from a few thoughts offered by author J.K. Rowling. Well good news because Rowling has opened up her word processor for a new Potter short, and it gives fans everywhere a little taste of the world of Potter and Co. between the Battle of Hogwarts and epilogue in Deathly Hallows, which is set almost 20 years later. (more…)
For many fans, the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows left them wanting more. Sure, it was a sweet moment to see Harry, Ron, and Hermione sending their children off to Hogwarts, but it didn’t provide much about what their adult lives were like. Enter Pottermore, the online community/digital library where author J.K. Rowling has been providing new information about her acclaimed wizarding series. Her latest updates detail the ongoing 427th Quidditch World Cup with reports from The Daily Prophet‘s own Ginny Potter (née Weasley)! (more…)
All the rumors of a Harry Potter themed MMO or online community have been a little too imaginative. Pottermore isn’t anything that inventive but rather a new, interactive way to experience the books. It’ll be a free for users but you’ll have the opportunity to purchase eBook versions of the Harry Potter books (for, like, the first time ever) in an online store. Okay, cool. But I would have freakin’ loved a Harry Potter MMO. I wanna be a wizard…err, witch.
JK Rowling made the announcement earlier today via video,
What do you guys think? It sounds interesting, a good way to continue banking on the popularity of the novels, but I’m curious how much new content there will really be. Speculation is the new material Rowling will bring to Pottermore is backstory and history, similar to the reveal that Dumbledore was gay and those companion books, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages.
According to the press release, available below the cut, Pottermore will also allow members to have a wand chosen and be sorted into the houses of Hogwarts. Okay, now we’re talking, I want to live in fantasy world of magic, dammit. How immersive this experience will be is still unknown, but the sign-up for beta testing is currently open so go sign up! At least then you can tell all of us whether this is best thing to happen to Potter fandom since that one fanfiction you wrote, you remember, the dirty one. Of course, it might also be completely lame. We’ll all find out for sure when Pottermore officially opens in October.
