The challenge maps of Batman: Arkham City will keep you coming back to this game for months, maybe years, to come. You can always fight better, score higher on the hit counter, be stealthier, and beginning November 1st you can add another character to your already impressive roster of Batman, Catwoman and Robin. Enter Nightwing.

Try and tell me this trailer doesn’t make you squee like  a little girl. Everyone always says they want to be Batman, but honestly, I don’t think we want the brooding or crazy, emotional baggage. We want to be Nightwing. A skilled and fearsome fighter, trained by the best, but still able see to lighter side of things.

Like Catwoman and Robin, Nightwing will come with,

…his own unique gadgets and special moves, and is playable in all challenge maps in the game, as well as two additional challenge maps that are included with the pack: Wayne Manor and Main Hall. The pack also contains a bonus Animated Series Nightwing character skin.

Suh-weet! I really hope the animated skin includes that sick mullet Nightwing was sportin’ back in the day. The Nightwing Bundle Pack will be available on the 1st in Xbox Live Marketplace for 560 Microsoft Points or the Playstation Network for $6.99. Also, those of us who didn’t pick up Batman: Arkham City from Best Buy and therefor didn’t get the exclusive Robin DLC, that bundle will be available for the same price on November 22nd.

Whose planning to download the Nightwing DLC? I am, and only partially for chance to swoon as he pummels dudes with his electrified escrima sticks, I swear!

Two great looking video games are coming out which will allow you to play pretend and run around as the Caped Crusader, everyone’s childhood dream, right? One allows you to live in the skin of the Batman as he patrols Gotham overrun by Arkham inmates, the other has you to dress up in gear with the Batman logo and shoot a lot of guns. You decide which is the truer representation.

Batman: Arkham City, the much anticipated sequel to Arkham Asylum drops on October 18th for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. At Comic-Con a new trailer was released giving us a glimpse of more obstacles ahead for the Dark Knight. Clue, he was born on a Monday.

The Penguin looks creepy and Solomon Grundy will be a handful. But you’re Batman, you can totally handle it. Also joining Bats in the new game will be Talia Al Ghul, voiced by Stana Katic. Whether she’ll be friend or foe is unknown, but I’m sure she has plans for Batman. Plans that might not sit well with his other sometimes paramour, Catwoman. All I’m saying, is there should be an option for a one on one fight between Talia and Catwoman with Batman as the prize.

The second Batman game is probably the farthest thing from a Batman game. This is Gotham City Imposters. First off, you arm your character with guns, then team up and take down opposing factions in a multi-player death match. The two teams are the Batz and Jokerz and your customizable character will affiliate with one or the other. You’ll show off your team pride in an assortment of kitschy gear.

Imposters will be a downloadable game for XBLA and PSN and is set for a Holiday 2012 release. Which Bat-game are you most excited for? Clearly, Arkham City is the most faithful but I think Imposters looks fun. As long you join the Jokerz team, parading around as Batman with a gun feels wrong.

While it was only a mater of time when the Playstation Store would be coming back after the recent revival of PSN. Details indicates that the date will be next week, May 24th. And it’s not just one update folks, will be getting several. Possibly enough to make up for the month of not being able to download/buy anything from the store. According to the letter that Sony is sending out to it’s partners, the multiple updates will happen on May 24th, 27th, 31st and June 3rd.

So why make a big deal about the Playstation Store coming back? It’s because that will begin your chance to take part of Sony’s “Welcome Back” appreciation program in which Sony is giving you free shit to make up for the outage time. Your first choice is picking out two PS3/PSN games from a list that consist of Dead Nation, Super Stardust HD, Wipeout HD + Fury, LittleBigPlanet (PSN Download), and inFamous (PSN Download). Also, if you happen to have a PSP, you have option to pick two PSP games  from a list that consist of LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, Pursuit Force, and Killzone Liberation.

Sony will also be giving away free items for Playstation Home users and a 30 day trial to non-subscribers of Playstation Plus and Quriocity while subscribers will be getting additional days added to their subscription (60 for PS+ users and 30 for Quriocity users). Of course the one catch for all this is to do all this within the first 30 days after the store is back up.

Do you think Sony has redeemed themselves on how they took care of the matter of bringing the network back up? Do you know what games you’ll be picking out from the list? Or, do you think Sony still has a lot more to do for you to forgive them?

There’s a new Batman game in town and it’s concept might shock the crap out of you. At least for the diehard Batfreaks. It’s a first-person shooter set in Gotham City. That’s right, an FPS involving the ever vigilante, anti-gun, Batman. Crazy, right? Well the more I read it might just be the good kind of crazy.

Gotham City Imposters is a multi-player FPS set in Batman’s home turf where players can create heroes or villains inspired by the caped crusader or his nemesis, the Joker. Then players get to shoot the shit out of of each other, fun right? I think this concept is brilliant.

Recently Erik Eckstein previewed the game for G4 and he gives us some insight on the game play,

Picture your typical downloadable shooter like Blacklight Tango Down or Breach, yet before panicking, picture it full of customizable Batmen and Jokerites. Players can fully tailor how their particular hero or heroine looks, from cosmetic choices like gloves, capes, and cowls to weapon and gadget loadouts. Pick a Nimble body type, and you’ll move quick, but Tough bodies take more damage. Adopt a grapple gun, and you’ll be able to ascend to a high vantage point, but if you race around on roller skates, you’re a lot faster on the ground.

You’ll be able to choose from a variety of guns (shotguns, assault rifles, rocket launchers, sub-machine guns), support weapons like pipe bombs, boomerangs, and revitalizing energy drinks, and gadgets like the aforementioned grapple gun or glider rig, which lets you float further when jumping/falling. These weapons can also have mods attached to them, so you can tweak a rocket launcher to fire multiple rounds, for example. All of this is gained through various unlocks in the game; the more you progress, the more opens up.

You can join one of two gangs, the Bats or Jokerz, and then you simply waste each other in online matches. I couldn’t really allow myself to make a Bats gang member, I know guns aren’t his style. But a Jokerz member?! Oh, I’m all over that. I’ve already created my Joker-devoted villain in DCU Online, why not branch out into GCI? Plus, GCI sounds like a great pick-up any time game. You play whenever you feel like shooting things, ever have those days? I also can’t help but be sucked in by the promise of so much customization. Creating and developing my character in the DC Universe was, by far, my favorite part of DCU Online.

Created by Monolith Productions, the same guys behind FEAR, in a partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive, and a storyline penned by none other than Jim Lee. This is full of win right? As of now no release date has been announced but it will be available for XBLA, PSN, and PC.

Intrigued by this Gotham-based FPS? I’m already hooked and I haven’t eve seen a bit of footage. We do have this great image of character concept art, available below the cut, check it out.

Sony’s Road To PSN Restoration Has Begun

The nightmare of not playing Portal 2’s online co-op, or ripping other gamers body parts off in Mortal Kombat is over, because Playstation Network is slowly but surely coming back. The recent firmware update, 3.61, has been released. The update forces users to change their password. Upon changing the password, you’ll get an e-mail confirmation about it and from there, online multiplayer is back.

Sony recently released a video featuring President, Kaz Hirai talking about the restoration of PSN. He started off by apologizing.

The restoration process started in North America and will be making it’s way to other parts of the world, with word going around that some region in Europe has begun. As for when the Playstation Store or the “Welcome Back” Package will be released, is something we still have to wait for.

Has the last three weeks been terrible for any of you PS3 gamers? As a PS3 only gamer, it didn’t affect me that much as I have many single player games to go through. It also gave me a break from having some asshole accuse me of cheating when I whooped them. Although, I do feel bad for the folks who got their hands on Portal 2 or SOCOM and weren’t able to use the online capabilities because of the network being down.

Did this whole network outage affect your purchasing decision on Sony’s future console? Do you think Sony has to serve us Kevin Butler’s head to make it up for the outage? Tell us what you think Sony needs or don’t need to do by leaving a comment.
