Historically, films based on video games have been unsuccessful. For some reason, Hollywood has been unable to crack the code. A video game that has made hundreds of millions of dollars, might not do so well in their film adaptation (see: just about every video game adaptation in the movies). However, one franchise that has proven to be the exception to the rule has been the Resident Evil franchise. Although the films have taken a dramatic turn away from the video games, they are considered certified hits, generating more than $1.233 Billion at the box office through their 6 movies. Although the last film, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter was the last of that film series (hence the word “final”), Hollywood is not done with this series.
It feels like just yesterday that we brought you the 16 second teaser for the final chapter in Alice’s story, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and it was. Today the 49 second International teaser hit the Internet with a lot more footage to look at. The Resident Evil franchise is an interesting one. Starting in 2002, the franchise has consistently made money at the box office while never topping a Rotten Tomatoes score of 33 from the critics. Milla Jovovich returns again as Alice, kicking ass and taking names in the post T-Virus world. (more…)
Word is that the first full trailer for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will hit the Internet next week as the teaser makes the Internet rounds today. Milla Jovovich is back for another paycheck as Alice, the unstoppable killing machine. It is refreshing to see a franchise continue through six films without rebooting. There’s still work to do and in this teaser Alice makes a promise. (more…)
Most fans gave up on the Resident Evil movies after the first one. Yet, with one goofy and ridiculous sequel after another, they keep making them. The franchise is like the zombies and monsters from which they feature… they just keep coming and coming. Will there ever been an end?
Well, actually, yeah there will be. Returning Resident Evil franchise star Ali Larter (who will play Claire Redfield for the third time) promises the upcoming Resident Evil 6 will actually mark the end of the franchise. (more…)
Sony is officially letting the world know what it has going on for the next few years. With reboots and sequels aplenty, it appears that the company is content to take existing properties and ride them for as long as possible – but will movie-goers want to take the ride with them? That’s the million-dollar question.
I can’t lie to you. I haven’t played a ‘Resident Evil’ game in years. I rocked out on the first two, and it got so bad that I found myself calling out sick from work just to keep playing and playing and playing those games. Maybe that’s why I left the damn things alone. That, and because I had recurring dreams of zombies trying to kill me. That’s not healthy. But what is healthy is making money. So, to that end, Capcom has decided to grace us with ‘Resident Evil: Revelations 2’ when I had no idea Revelations 1 even existed. Because I like sleeping well at night and having gainful employment. That means you guys get to have it all to yourselves. Hit the jump for the trailer. (more…)
Anyone that’s seen enough video game movies knows that this particular genre is fraught with difficulties. Mostly they consist of bad scripts, lousy actors and directors with their heads up their asses. One of the better franchises is the Resident Evil series. They were nothing to write home about, of course, but at least they didn’t suck so bad that you wanted your money back. Unfortunately, even the little bit of goodness that showed up in the first of these films faded quickly as they got progressively worse. Now it looks like the powers-that-be are finally ready to pull the plug on the franchise and they’re going out with one final installment of Resident Evil. Read on for what details we’ve managed to find. (more…)
With ‘True Blood’ having met its maker, somebody thinks we need hot vampires on TV again, and ‘The Strain’ just won’t do that. And when I say hot, I just mean normal-looking, unlike those freaks in Guillermo del Toro’s madhouse opus. Throw in a few werewolves (hopefully they won’t be represented as just big dogs) and screw it, might as well just adapt ‘Underworld’ to the small screen. But then, someone somewhere else is thinking, “Know what television needs? More zombies.” Cast a female ass-kicker because they’re the hot topic these days, and BAM! Might as well just adapt ‘Resident Evil’ to the small screen too! However these projects came about, I’d love to have eavesdropped during the meetings that assumed series stars Kate Beckinsale and Milla Jovovich would be on board. Aren’t they? (more…)
In it’s early years, a little company with big dreams manufactured arcade games, which they called “capsule computers.” Then somebody decided to combine the two-fold term into their new name “Capcom.” It wouldn’t be long before we’d be introduced to the golf-swing uppercut that made Ken and Ryu famous. Back then we rocked the typed of technology that modern day kids point at and laugh. It’s a fine enough history to be proud of…unless you’re Capcom, who is out to change the past. Desperately trying to put the pixelated humiliations of the 1980’s behind them, the video game behemoth has announced that they are remastering the original 1996 ‘Resident Evil’ video game for 2015 audiences. Hey, when money’s burning a hole in your pocket and you’re not motivated to build something new from scratch, just jump in your time machine and fix something that ain’t broke. (more…)
Resident Evil fans already knew another movie was in the works, because love it or not, the Resident Evil movie franchise is a money-maker, and money makers get sequels. The good news is that the creative force behind the entire series of movies Paul Anderson, is still fully in charge of the script and about to get started on the yet unnamed Resident Evil 6 script.
