Each and every week we scour the Internet for nothing but the best in nerdy art. We leave no digital stone unturned, we poke and prod every nook and cranny of the Interwebz. Why? Because we love you, and we love to bring you weekly feed of nerd art.
On with the dump!
Above: Based out of Tokyo, artist Mike Wrobel wondered what it would have been like for the cast of Game of Throne to be set in the decade of Nintendo and cocaine, the 1980s. What resulted was a perfect collection of the notable cast who seem to fit quite well into the decade, with Joffrey still trying to be tough and Daenerys now being the “mother of ferrets.” [Neatorama]

There’s a new production still out for Marvel‘s Iron Man III that shows how bad things get for Tony. His armor is beat to hell and he doesn’t look too good either. Check it all out in the photo below.
Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3″ pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
Iron Man III stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man III is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of Tales of Suspense (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with The Invincible Iron Man (#1) in May of 1968.
We’ve been waiting for the Iron Man III production team to start filming in China, it’s the latest in a long series of Hollywood concessions to China in order to allow movies access to China’s massive theater going market. Now I know that some of you are saying, “Wait, they had to film there because the film’s villain is half Chinese.” That’s true, but the real reason is financial, China’s DMG Entertainment‘s co-production deal with Marvel, the inclusion of Chinese actors, and Chinese locations filming are being completed in order for the movie to meet China’s laws regarding foreign films access to China’s theater screens.
That explains why, just five months left until release, Iron man III production elements are gearing up to do additional filming in Beijing with Chinese actor Wang Xuequi. He plays Dr. Wu, a new character “is not a huge part” and some of Xuequi’s scenes have already been shot here in the states. Hence the new pictures below.
Iron Man 3 opens in theaters on May 3, 2013.
I have yet to find a person not totally blown away by the latest Iron Man 3 trailer so it was a little surprising to this NerdBastard when news started to hit the Internet that Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige had taken the time to calm fan fears about the tone of the movie. I certainly wasn’t concerned by the tone of the latest trailer, I was thoroughly hyped up to see such serious action.
Well, somewhere out there, there must be some jittery fans that needed some hand holding because when Feige had the opportunity during his sit down with The West Austrailian, Fiege said:
“It’s not a serious movie, but we seriously dig into exploring more of Tony. The trick is just trying to make great movies. We try to make them all great, all different and all fresh. What you’ll see in Iron Man 3 is some very unique directions that were taken.”
Iron Man 3 Director Shane Black chimed in with:
“We’re not aiming for bigger, necessarily. We’re aiming for different and fresh and new. It’s all about capturing that lightning-in-a-bottle feel, about trying to get as much into this as we can. We’re looking to get a ton of thrills into a short space, to make a nice little stew for you.”
What do you think, would people stay away because of a darker tone in the latest trailer? I’m expecting the next trailer to be all slap stick, pie in the face, comedy now.
Iron Man 3 makes it’s way to theater screens on May 3, 2013.
You can get a sneak peek at Iron Man 3, but first you’ve got some work to do. Stark’s armor has run out of power and Tony needs you to click the picture of his Arc Reactor above and “like” the image over at the Iron Man 3 movie’s Facebook page. Every “like” adds power until it reaches critical mass and reveals the preview video to all those that liked the page and image.
Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, Ashley Hamilton, and Rebecca Hall. The movie will hit theater screens on May 3rd, 2013.
The production team over at Iron Man III are really starting to crank up the teases, hints, and glimpses into the upcoming blockbuster. NerdBastards has plucked the best of the forty stills that Star News Online collected on set and posted them below. Click the link above to check out the rest of the stills taken of that day’s filming.
As you can see below, the scene that is being shot involves a slew of extras and lots of wires. They form a “hang on” conga line that Iron Man swoops in to save.
That’s gotta be a lot of fun, hanging around all day on wires for what might be a 2 minute scene in the movie. First person to say they have to pee while hanging in the wire harness will have their wire cut.
Directed by Shane Black, Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton. This third Iron Man installment hits theaters on May 3, 2013.
Even with Warner Brothers’ The Dark Knight Rises and Sony‘s The Amazing Spider-Man soon being unleashing into theaters, people are still talking The Avengers.
The Joss Whedon feature continues to break records months after it’s initial May 4th release, now becoming a $600 million dollar blockbuster! That brings it’s global total to an astounding 1.4 billion, making it the 3rd highest grossing feature film of all time and also the highest grossing comic book movie ever.
It’s an amazing feat for such a film, even with a $50 million paycheck reportedly being netted by Robert Downy Jr. and his fantastic contract negotiators. But despite all these accolades it’s still only “phase one”, which means it’s time for the second phase of Marvel’s money-making production. This next step in Marvel Studios’ expansion of the multi-franchise might be a little much, but with everything set to be released over the course of the next few years instead of all at once, it should be easy to digest.
Currently being worked on are future sequels Iron Man 3, Captain America 2 and The Avengers 2 as well as the rumored Ant-Man, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy projects. The future looks bright for Marvel and it’s films right now. In the meantime, The Avengers must surpass James Cameron’s Titanic and his blue alien love fest Avatar to take the top spot. But given enough time, it could be done.
So if you’d like to see it cross that heavenly $700 million dollar marker you should head to theaters and watch The Avengers for what could be your eighth or ninth time. Be sure to pray to your Joss Whedon statue before you go in order to give it a little more meaning.

Some new promos from Joss Whedon‘s superhero team-up pic, The Avengers, have made their wait to the ‘net. Each one focuses on a different Avenger. Black Widow (Scarlet Johanson), Iron Man (Robert Downy Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) each get a little featurette to help the uninitiated understand the earths mightiest heroes. They are a little light on new footage and yes, Hulk and Hawkeye don’t get one (yet). My guess is they are still keeping the not so jolly green giant footage for the big screen, as for the purple bowman? Come on, it’s Hawkeye… he’s just happy to be along for the ride.
