Robin

With a new DC Comics event, Witching Hour, announced with covers posted online, it shows a Wonder Woman turned evil. The amazing covers make nerds question when else have superheroes turned evil? Not the alternate universe counterparts or evil doppelgangers, but the heroes themselves. What made them turn and did they return again to the side of the angels? NerdBastards delves into the details of DC’s Witching Hour event as well as 5 other heroes who have taken a ride on the dark side.

Another day, another tidbit revealed about Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.  This time, Zack Snyder is putting to rest one of those pesky rumors that, apparently, keeps circling the film.  Of course, at this point, very little real information, aside from the cast and characters, is known about the film, so it is fair to say that at least 90% of what audiences “know” at this point are nothing more than rumors.  Well, if Snyder’s words are any indication, we may actually know a bit more than it seems at first glance.  Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, though, let’s get to that Robin rumor!  According to Zack, Robin may not be who some believe him to be.  (more…)

Slow news day? Quite possibly, but intriguing just the same. You may remember the feature length animated film Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker. In it, the Joker mysteriously returns to Gotham City decades after apparently dying in one final confrontation with Batman. But when future Batman Terry McGinnis investigates, he learns that “the Joker” is really Tim Drake, who was captured by the Clown Prince of Crime before his death, tortured, and implanted with a suggestion to taken over by the Joker’s, for lack of a better term, spirit. Kind of crazy, huh? But what if the makers of the upcoming Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice saw that and said, “not a bad idea”? (more…)

Whatever happened to Michael Cera? He used to appear in two or three movies a year, but aside from the fourth season of Arrested Development and a memorable appearance in This is the End, he seems to have all but disappeared from the landscape. Appropriately enough, Cera’s next big role will only require his voice and not his actual person, and it will require him to team-up again with his Arrested Development uncle Will Arnett. What weird sort of project brings these two Canadian actors together again? Why it’s the LEGO Movie spin-off The LEGO Batman Movie, and Cera will play the Boy Wonder to Arnett’s Caped Crusader. It’s long been common knowledge around the Geek Train that Warner Bros. was putting together a live action ‘Teen Titans’ television show. Of course when producers get their hands on a piece of merchandise, they have to change things around, so none of the Titans will be teens at all. These adult heroes will be led by Robin and will feature a largely female cast from what we’re hearing through the grapevine. If you follow that vine long enough, you’ll land knee-deep in Nerdist country where Jessica Chobot reports on a leaked script of the pilot, and everything she knows about it. Well, now we know what she knows, and we’re gonna sing like birds. Birds Of Prey, that is. Hint, hint. Hawks and Doves, that is! Hint! Hint!

I’ve said too much… (more…)

The Dark Knight Returns

There is no doubting that Frank Miller‘s The Dark Knight Returns – which focused on an older military-esque, hard-as-nails Batman set against the zeitgeist of contemporary society at the time – is one of the most seminal comic books (along with Alan Moore‘s Watchmen) of the 1980s. The Graphic novel inspired Tim Burton‘s vision of his 1989 movie adaptation Batman, and also inspired the darker moody tone of Christopher Nolan‘s Batman trilogy – particularly The Dark Knight Rises, furthermore, looking set to be a major influence on Zack Snyder‘s upcoming tent-pole (the movie that is setting up the Justice League), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. ROBINER

When I read reports of DC going with an “older Batman” in the Warner Bros. head scratcher ‘Batman v Superman,’ the first thing I hoped for was a Nightwing appearance. It didn’t dawn on me that this caped crusader would lean more toward the Frank Miller version, immortalized in the comics series ‘The Dark Knight Returns.’ In truth, I saw the release of the Miller costume like everyone else and just didn’t put two and two together. So it kind of makes sense that, along with the more grizzled Dark Knight, female Robin, Carrie Kelley, wouldn’t be far behind. And now we sort of have proof that she’s gonna be in the movie starring our ‘World’s Finest.’

LegoBatman

The “Legofication” of the world continues, as Warner Bros. & TT Games released an announcement trailer for Lego Batman III: Beyond Gotham today. Pretty soon we’re going to be able to play all of our favorite characters in Lego form. I personally cannot wait for the Lego version of David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers, just so I can see what Lego gynecological instruments look like.  (more…)

batman vs spider-man

With the multi-billion-dollar success of the UFC and mixed martial arts in general, the UK is looking to capitalize on the craze and get their own piece of the pie.  But rather than grabbing up a stable of seasoned fighters and adhering to all those pesky “rules” that most MMA organizations implement, they’ve decided to take pretty much every schmoe off the street and give them a chance to prove their mettle in a tourney.  Thus, the Hardest Man was born.  And, as if to make a point about how ridiculous all this is, they’ve even managed to get Spider-Man to face off against the team of Batman and Robin in a handicap match.  Check out the video below: (more…)
