The CW‘s dark spin on the Archies, Riverdale, was much better than it had a right to be, even according to crusty bitter old critics like the guy that covered Riverdale for Nerd Bastards. The first season left things on a helluva cliffhanger, a beloved member of the main cast who no one really should have had any beef with, was shot, and laid dying on the floor of Pops. As Jughead observed, the last shred of Riverdale’s innocence died that day, so where does the show that bares the town’s name go next?  (more…)

Ben Affleck Says He’s Not Going Anywhere RE: Batman

There were a lot of people looking forward to the goodies that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment were bringing to San Diego Comic Con in the form of news clips, trailers and announcements, but a cloud was cast over the festivities, and it was one the Bat-signal almost couldn’t break through. News reports yesterday indicated that Ben Affleck might be hanging up his cape and cowl at the end of Justice League after three appearances as the Dark Knight. It’s a good thing then that Affleck was on hand at Comic Con to refute this latest rumour mongering.  (more…)

Try not to get giddy. For people concerned about the rumblings: extensive reshoots, Joss Whedon stepping up for Zack Snyder, Ben Affleck leaving the franchise, prepare for a bit if cold water to refocus you on the idea that maybe everything’s going to turn out alright, at least so far as Justice League is concerned. At San Diego Comic Con, a few moments ago, a new, four-minute trailer for the film was screened, and you might actually be hard pressed to find any trace of the doom and gloom of previous entries in the DC Extended Universe(more…)

It’s hard to think go a more cinematic novel primed for a visual feast of a movie than Ready Player One. Ernest Cline‘s ode to gaming, nostalgia and possibly every pop culture reference from the 1980s has long been anticipated, and with none other than Steven Spielberg directing this is easily one of the biggest movies coming down the pipe in the next year. More than than, a legion of fans of Cline’s novel are eager to make sure that no one screws up the transfer, not even a master like Spielberg. So you tell us, has Spielberg screwed it up? (more…)

Marvel Studios has long been a big presence at San Diego Comic Con, but in the last several years they’ve had to specialize. You can’t have one, big Marvel panel anymore, you’ve got to have one for the movies, and one for Inhumans, and yes, one for the Netflix series that fall under the general headline of The Defenders. The entire street-level hero team was on call at the con tonight revealing new footage, new details, and making new announcements.  (more…)

There is a lot of excitement for the return of DuckTales later this summer. For people that remember the good old days of the Disney Afternoon in the late 80s and early 90s, it’s a nostalgic whiff of greatness that is sure to get a lot of people to tune on the name alone, forget the fact that almost everything we’ve seen so far says this is not you, or your parents’, DuckTales. You get a pretty good idea about how those new dynamics will play out in the clip below, a scene from the new series that takes you to that beloved Disney locale, under the sea! (more…)

If you were to make a list of the five must-see things at Comic Con, then Game of Thrones has got to finish somewhere on that list. Presently one of the biggest shows on TV in scope, scale and fanbase, those attending the Game of Thrones panel in San Diego were eager to get some insight as to where the show is going in its remaining 12 episodes, and a small army of cast members during the Q&A tried to tease them as much as decorum would be allowed. And speaking of teases, this new one-minute trailer for what’s coming up on the show is worth a look.  (more…)

This season of Fear The Walking Dead has been outstanding. Not only is the show not bound to the already established storyline from the comics (and therefore free to do whatever the hell it wants, as long as it adheres to the rules of The Walking Dead), but the show has had our main characters separate from each other, and go on their own dark paths. In the mid-season finale, the Clark family realized they were on the wrong side of a war (which they ended up in conflict with former friend Ophelia) and took matters into their own hands, and Strand and the newly revealed to be alive Salazar were having their own journeys (sometimes at odds with each other). How much longer until the gang’s all back together, and will they be on the same side?

The Walking Dead Season 8 Trailer Released

As AMC’s The Walking Dead continues to shamble along, unstoppable and forever hungry for me (feel free to take that to mean whatever you wish,) we do know that the season finale left fans waiting. Waiting to see how this ‘bigger world’ that Jesus (the character in the show that is,) would unfold.  And now, months after the end of season 7, we get a taste of things to come.

Fresh from San Diego Comic-Con, here is the official The Walking Dead season 8 trailer: (more…)
