Season 2

Superhero-Fight-Club-The-Flash-poster

I’m sure you all saw The Flash season premiere last night, but in the off chance you’re saving it for the weekend, or a rainy day, or whatever, we won’t talk about the spoiler-y implications till after the “Read more…” thing. If you came to this article via social media and don’t want to be spoiled – LEAVE NOW! – because this article is about a plot detail that emerged about 15 minutes into last night’s premiere. A development that has a big impact on more than one Flash character, and promises grand implications going forward. And for those of you who know what I mean, you should realize that the executive producer of the show says don’t worry. The end is not always the end. (more…)

Let’s be honest, season one of Gotham was, to be kind, underwhelming. The show looks good, it’s got a pretty impressive cast, and while some of those actors thrived (Robin Lord Taylor as the Penguin for example), others were stuck in a drudgery of one-dimensional characterization and nonsensical plot twists (Erin Richards as Barbara Kean). Hopefully, the writers and directors of Gotham will correct this in the new season, but in the meantime, let’s jam more cast members into the show! The latest addition is no stranger to law and order, and no stranger to dealing with hardened criminals with extreme severity. Beware Gotham City, Vic Mackey – or rather his portrayer Michael Chiklis – is coming to town. (more…)

‘The Flash’ Gets a Costume Adjustment for Season 2

the flash

Clothes make the man, so they say, and a number of TV super men are getting a fashion fix for the upcoming TV season. Chief among them is The Flash, the Fastest Man Alive is getting a new look for the fall, one that aligns a bit more to his comic book origins, if you care about that sort of thing. Of course, when we last left the Flash he had some much bigger concerns than clothing, like a giant black hole forming above Central City following the defeat of the main villain, and the death of an important supporting character, but seeing as how this is a superhero drama we’re talking about, the state of costume comes a close second place. Season-Two-The-Flash

Now that we’ve gotten Arrow out of the way, let’s talk about his fast moving colleague, The Flash. Yes, The Flash was also at San Diego Comic Con, and the cast and crew revealed some details about what fans can expect in season 2. First and foremost, obviously, is to resolve that big wormhole over Central City problem that the series left off with. Of course, the Flash will beat the wormhole, and then we’re off to a new season, with new stories, and new characters that will be very familiar to comic book readers and fans of the DC Comics speedster. So who’s coming to Central City next, and be they good or bad? (more…)

Last week, Jason Statham said some stuff about the Marvel Studios’ oeuvre that were a bit, um, insensitive. That’s the diplomatic way of putting it, because actually he was downright brutal. The word ‘diss’ would not be misused in this situation. Obviously, such utterances are likely to make nerds angry, and you won’t like some nerds when their angry. And the Hulk, or rather the guy that plays the Hulk, well he’s just kind of laughing it off. In a recent interview, Mark Ruffalo was asked about Statham’s summation of his work, and that of the rest of Marvel Studios’ cast, and his reaction is just that this is Statham being Statham. Penny-Dreadful-Season-2-Trailer

Showtime‘s wonderfully macabre Penny Dreadful is returning to TV screens everywhere in April. The show made Nerd Bastards’ list of the Top 10 Nerdy shows of 2014, and if you haven’t seen it, it is well worth catching up on before the second season premiere. Led by Timothy Dalton as adventurer Sir Malcolm Murray and the demon possessed Vanessa Ives played by Eva Green, the first season followed Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), his creature Caliban (Rory Kinnear), the depraved Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), and American gun hand Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) as they faced evil supernatural forces in Victorian England. But what evil awaits them now in season two? Showtime has now given us a trailer. (more…)

It’s taken a long time, and there’s been an awful lost of speculation up to this point, but now there’s been a semi-official announcement concerning the cast of True Detective season 2. You can hardly blame any actor in Hollywood for the hesitancy, True Detective was the smash success of winter and a new prestige hit for HBO, a network known for prestige hits. All that, and the fact that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are going to be a tough act to follow, would scare even the boldest of actors from being the follow-up act in the new season. But fortune, as they say, favors the bold, and Colin Farrell hopes that this is the case because he says he’s just signed up to lead True Detective season 2. (more…)

It’s just seven more sleeps until Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns with all new adventures that will pit Agent Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his ragtag crew against a world that sees S.H.I.E.L.D. as the bad guy. We’ve seen a sneak peak, but now through the power of social media we get our first good look at next week’s season premiere. The show left a lot of dangling threads when it went on hiatus in May, and it seems as though S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to waste no time in dropping some new clues to those lingering mysteries. So what do the S.H.I.E.L.D. gang have in store for season 2? Let’s check it out. (more…)

‘Hannibal’ Season 2 Adds a Familiar Face

Michael-Pitt_0

My favorite part of watching (and reviewing) the first season of Bryan Fuller‘s Hannibal was the attention to detail and brilliant use of elements that only a fan of Thomas Harris’ original novel, Red Dragon, would recognize. For example, we got to meet characters the book only ever vaguely mentioned–like Garrett Jacob Hobbs.

This season, it seems Fuller has decided to expand further into the “Lecterverse” by introducing a character who will later become infamous as the only person to survive a Hannibal Lecter attack: the wealthy, disturbed, and downright evil, Mason Verger. (more…)
