spin-off

We’ve seen countless iterations of Batman’s greatest rogue, The Joker. We’ve seen Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton’s Batman, Heath Ledger in the Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, and recently Jared Leto in Suicide Squad (and the upcoming Gotham City Sirens movie). Of course, there’s the OG from the Adam West series, Caesar Romero and countless voice actors for various DC animated movies (Mark Hamill remains king though!). The Joker is without a doubt one of the most fascinating characters throughout comic book history. However, we really haven’t learned much of his origin or his history. Until now…

Sometimes a spin-off can be just as good as the original, think of The Jeffersons, or Frasier, or Star Trek: The Next Generation. Will Fear the Walking Dead follow suit? We can’t say for certain yet, but it looks like it’s going to put on a good show from the first full-trailer from the series posted below. It bowed at San Diego Comic Con earlier today along with the previously posted trailer for season six of original recipe The Walking Dead. Obviously, both shows have a lot in common, but Fear looks like it’s going to take us all the way back to the beginning, good thing that the end of the world knows no time difference. (more…)

In the current TV climate, a spin-off combining characters from The Flash and Arrow in a new show is about as close to a sure thing as you can get. It was a few months ago that the CW first floated the possibility of another show to take place in this small screen DC Comics-universe, which if Supergirl also has tendrils to Arrow et al would make four series part of the same superhero universe on the air. This new CW series though is a bit less straightforward than tagging a new hero and creating a show around them, it’s taking parts from other shows and creating a new series. Kind of Legendary, wouldn’t you say? (more…)

Twitter has become the preferred source to release big movie news for a lot of actors and directors. There are pros and cons in using this particular media; on the one hand it’s direct and immediate, but on the other hand social platforms can turn into wretched hives of scum and villainy so quickly that you regret the day you ever heard the word tweet (even in a bird context). But the following looks like news that will definitely get fans of a certain persuasion excited. To put it this way, if you’re one of those people that was pissed that the Deadpool you saw in X-Men Origins: Wolverine bore no physical resemblance to the Deadpool you know and love from the comics, prepare to flip your lid. Considering that there’s so much uncertainty in the TV business in these days, it’s nice to see that there’s still such a thing as patience. Of course, when you’re the spin-off series to one of the biggest hits on cable, it could be argued that you’ve earned a little good will, which means good news for The Walking Dead‘s as-yet-untitled spin-off. The series will likely feed America’s insatiable appetite for zombie material, and like its mothership series, it will get at least two seasons to convince viewers that there’s a still a lot of fun and adventures to be had in the dessicated remains of the Earth filled with carnivorous cadavers. Heroes of ‘Arrow’ & ‘Flash’ Team-Up for a Spin-off

super-teamup copy

With all the ground work being laid in both Arrow and The Flash, introducing new characters who could each lead their own spin-off series, unless the CW wanted to change their name to the DC Network, this was really the only option that made sense. The CW has announced that they’re presently developing a “superhero team-up” spin-off series featuring a ragtag group of actors from both Arrow and The Flash. Currently being developed by DCTV Universe overseers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim, the new show already has a popular quartet of actors apparently signed up to lead team, which will only, undoubtedly, open the door to more spin-off ready characters. Deadpool3

Even though X-Men Origins: Wolverine royally bombed with everyone except maybe Hugh Jackman‘s mom, Ryan Reynolds will reprise the role of the Merc with the Mouth for the upcoming Deadpool solo feature. That part of casting the upcoming X-Men spin-off film was more or less a forgone conclusion, but who might play Deadpool’s leading lady in the film, that is a more complicated question. Sources say that the production has it narrowed down to six potentials, including a couple of choice names that should be very familiar to genre fans. The role the winning actress might play, is unknown, but what is known is the code name for the Deadpool production, so if you’re in the Vancouver area in the next couple of months and want to stalk the cast and crew, the watch word you’ll need to know is… (more…)

Big news from today’s Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour 2015, and not just big news relative to the size of the network presenting: The CW. Yes, the CW is an also ran of a network, churning out 10 hours of programming a week and basically being relegated to the a category so derogatory, it’s the only one to be given the term “netlet,” but they’re still churning our a lot of popular TV. They know what they’re doing and they’re doing it well, which is why they went hog wild this afternoon and renewed eight of its series, including the superheroic Arrow and The Flash. Speaking of which, if you love the world of the Emerald Archer and the Fastest Man Alive, then you might just be welcoming a third hour featuring the man with the Power of the Atom. (more…)

The third movie in the Expendables series comes out at the end of summer, and, as with the previous two entries, it’s expected to be a tremendous success. We’ve already heard about the potential for at least one spin-off film in The Expendables style, the female-centric Expendabelles, which will feature a cast of kick-ass ladies from franchises across the big screen. This where Bruce Campbell comes in. The Evil Dead icon once discussed the idea of a Horror icon-version of The Expendables that would feature, among others, Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees Kane HodderA Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Kruger Robert Englund, and, of course, The Chin himself, Bruce Campbell. BobaFett

I don’t know about you, but I always get nervous when geek sites start running conjecture based on unnamed “sources”. We’re not exactly dealing with regular Bob Woodward types here, so the “Deep Throat” veils of secrecy always strike me as mere excuses for nerdboy fantasy.

According to Schmoes Know, Lawrence Kasdan is 100% confirmed by their “trusted source” to be writing the 2016 Boba Fett film. This comes hot on the heels of Disney’s announcement that both Gareth Edwards (Godzilla ’14) and Josh Trank (Chronicle) are directing two of the three Star Wars spin-off movies planned to be dropping in-between the still untitled Episodes VII – IX.
