This time last year, we had already gotten a pretty good idea of what Star Wars: The Force Awakens would look like, at least one trailer and several official images. In less than 10 months now, the first standalone Star Wars movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will be released in theaters and other than one cast photo and one leaked concept teaser, we don’t seem to know anything about it. Time to panic? Maybe, but like a junkie looking for a fix, we do have a few details today that have leaked out about the film from Godzilla director Gareth Edwards. (Emphasis on the “few”.) (more…)

Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

Above: Have a friend in the U.K.? Get them to send you some mail with these cool Doctor Who stamps! All eleven Doctors are available and in the second set there’ll be some of his toughest foes, too. Commemorating the 50th Anniversary these stamps will release next year. [io9]

Yeovil, south Somerset (that’s in the UK), saw a recent invasion of malevolent aliens, though not of type one might expect.  Instead of blowing things up or establishing a new Imperial colony, Daleks and Stormtroopers chose to help out the local hospitals – very uncharacteristic indeed.

YeoLeisurePark, in a celebration marking their 10th anniversary, set up a Doctor Who-themed event to benefit St. Margaret’s Hospice – a hospital devoted to helping those diagnosed with terminal illnesses.  This 6-hour Doctor Who extravaganza featured everything from Cybermen to Sontarans, with the highlight of the day being a race between wee-sized remote-controlled Daleks.

In addition to the race, the event featured a 5k charity run and a laser display, as well a chance for people to get up-close-and-personal with their favorite Doctor Who villains.  Luckily, no exterminations or deletions were reported.

Not to be outdone by their British-developed counterparts, a few days later the 501st UK Garrison Star Wars group showed up to their own charity event.  This one was aimed at raising money for Yeovil Hospital’s Flying Colours Appeal, an initiative to help the Women’s Health and Maternity Unit at the hospital.  Considering this is a maternity unit, there is likely an ulterior motive involved, such as training more soldiers for the Empire.

Residents of Yeovil must have certainly had an interesting time the last few days, what with all the alien activity in town.  No doubt they also breathed a sigh of relief when the aliens finally made their way off-planet without killing anyone.

Be shocked and amazed at the sounds coming from this PVC tube organ. Seriously, you’ll recognize these tunes, like maybe a certain video game theme involving tubes of its own. (College Humor)

Brent Spiner has an eerily acurate Patrick Stewart impression. It’s awesome, but creepy. Seriously, you must give this a watch. (io9)

Play a few bars of any part of Star War‘s iconic score and you’ll have everyone humming along. John Williams‘ score is so identifiable it’s lended itself to parody over and over again. But what if the music of Star Wars was left in the hands of say, MC Hammer or even a group of highschool theatre nerds? Why you’d get these gems!

In what some are calling the “most embarrassing display of Star Wars ever,” the Dark Lord of the Sith and his Stormtrooper backup are letting you know, “U Can’t Touch This!”

All right, it is a little embarressing. But you must admit those are the most coordinated Stormtroopers you’ve ever seen! These guys could definitely hit the broad side of bantha.

The next video is delightful. Back in 1996 a high school adapted Star Wars for the stage with their own version of a Star Wars High School Musical. It sold out all three nights it ran, only three because it was quickly shut down by George Lucas with a cease and desist letter. For years we’ve been robbed of this musical, sci-fi splendor, but no more! The musical in it’s entirety has been uploaded to Vimeo for all to enjoy. Watch part one below, and click here to for all six sections.

It is a high school musical, so don’t expect this production to rival anything on the Great White Way, but you’ve got to hand it to these nerds for their creativity and pure gumption.  The music is all borrowed from famous musical productions with original lyrics. R2D2 is played by a chick with some pretty good vocals and the set’s as barren as Tattooine, which works out sorta perfect since the first act is mostly on Tatooine.

Can we get a song from this musical on Glee next season!?
