Tetris

So not only is Tetris the Movie going to come to a theater near you in 2018, it’s going to launch the Tetris trilogy, which will likely be part of the Block-Toy Cinematic Universe along with LEGO and Jenga. Okay, that last part is a joke (for now), but that first part is not. Last fall, there was discussion about turning Tetris into an “epic sci-fi” project, but now there’s money behind it. A U.S.-China co-production between Threshold Entertainment’s Larry Kasanoff (Mortal Kombat) and Chinese media mogul Bruno Wu will see the pair sink a combined $80 million into the movie. (more…)

The Tetris Movie Is Coming. Yes, That Tetris.

Not too long ago, around the time Ouija was announced, I started contemplating what other games Hollywood would try to grab in order to bleed a few more dollars out of our nostalgia.  Considering that many of us were gamers before we could even read (even if those first games included Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders), there’s quite a stockpile for the Hollywood Money Machine to sift through.  Think about it – if you were a Hollywood producer, which game would you feel was ripe for the big screen treatment?  Chances are that of all the games that come to mind, Tetris isn’t one of them.  Then again, you probably don’t have millions of dollars lying around to dump in what will no doubt be a box office bomb.  Threshold Entertainment does, though, and a Tetris movie is exactly what they want to give us. Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. Tetris on a Building

The cost of tuition and living expenses at MIT is approximately $55,000 per year — keep that in mind.

A team of hackers at MIT adorably hijacked control of the “Green Building” on campus to play, what is most probably, the world’s greatest and largest game of Tetris on Friday. No word on if the hackers in question secured permission from Alexey Pajitnov (the acknowledged inventor of Tetris, a-doy), but I would imagine not, as they are hackers. By the way, how do hackers make purple and green lights appear in an office building? I know nothing of the “Green building”, but this strikes me as odd.

Video Games + Gummi Bears = Win?

I honestly do not know what to think about the video embedded below.

It is either the work of a modern art genius, or the insane and obsessive actions of a sugar addict. I honestly cannot decide.

Basically, someone took ten POUNDS of gummi bears and turned them into a love note for old school video games. It is certainly inventive, and the sound effects are dead on, but the images themselves are a bit hit and miss. And how is Pokemon a classic video game?

Anyone? Yeah, I thought not!

I do love the part about Tetris and Mario … and I wouldn’t mind eating some of those gummies.

What about you?

Da F*ck? Tetris: le film

tetrisfanfilm

We here at Nerd Bastards like to occasionally inform our readers about pressing issues as kind of a public service. The following video is part of that public service.

Everyone’s favorite block-stacking puzzler makes its big-screen debut in Tetris : le Film.

In proving that the French are just as wacky as Asians Tetris: le film is kinda like the movie Run Lola Run except better. Any film that has blocks that fall from the sky aiming to kill a seemingly innocent white girl is nothing but pure win!

The french speak in this video is very (very) annoying, so beware! Unless, of course you like hearing what sounds like hardcore, blow-job, torture pr0n, then I guess this is for you. For the rest of you, turn the volume down and just watch what is otherwise a fantastic, high-quality, well produced fan film.

After years of  playing Tetris it can become quite normal to see everything as a mix of L, T and line blocks. You just wish that you could have furniture made out of those crazy shapes. Thanks to designer to Gaen Koh of Singapore you can bring this into reality, making those forts you built as a child sucks ass. Tat-ris(not a joke) was designed to encourage an active behaviour in children. Focusing on giving a child insight into linguistic and conceptual structures while developing their pattern of learning and reasoning. This looks like a grand old time for the whole family, exchanging shapes to make tables, chairs and couches. This just screams awesomesauce, with a side of ingenuity. Just think about it, one day you could literally make your own furniture and adjust it to how many people live in your home. The only problem would be you making a straight line and watching your newly created piece disappear before your eyes. Companies could make a fortune on this one, as long as nothing falls too fast.
