While The Avengers might get the billion-dollar budgets, the support of clandestine government agencies, a giant floating aircraft carrier and an honest-to-God God backing them up, not every superhero team can boast those kinds of assets. Down on the dirty streets of New York, the heroes that survive are lone wolves who views partnership as a hazard they may not be able to afford. This has been the draw behind The Defenders, Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series that has been on its way down the pipe for over three years. Today, we got our first official image from the production team, along with a whole slew of new rumours, hints and tantalising factoids. Let’s dive in. (more…)

During tonight’s Marvel panel at New York Comic Con, TV head, Jeph Loeb, announced that Signourney Weaver will play the main villain on The Defenders. The announcement was made when Weaver came out during the panel and sat alongside the stars of The Defenders: Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand. Of course the the news came as a big surprise, but the real question is who will Weaver be playing in the Netflix crossover?
As much as Luke Cage was a story about the titular character, the breakout star of the Netflix series was Misty Knight, played by actress Simone Missick. The detective who was entwined with Luke Cage throughout the first season was a highlight for many fans of the show and they were very impressed with Missick’s portrayal of the character. Comic book fans know that she and Colleen Wing eventually join up and together become “The Daughters of the Dragon,” a crime-fighting duo who rival Luke Cage and Iron Fist’s Heroes For Hire. One of Misty’s signature traits from the comic book is her bionic arm.
As one of the shows that is really putting Netflix on the map in terms of being a creator of amazing original content, Daredevil has treated the world to a stellar two seasons so far. The first season was a true masterpiece of television, with every tiny detail carefully considered to the extent that there was hardly a fault to be found in the casting, the dialogue, the soundtrack… well, all of it. The second season proved a worthy follow up, with so many pieces falling perfectly into place. It opened the door for other darker Marvel shows, like Jessica Jones, to get screen time and even has a spin-off on the way in the form of Punisher. (more…)
According to the normal rules of TV, when you’ve got something good you keep cranking it out until no one wants any part of it anymore. Netflix isn’t following any established method though, they’re taking a different approach: always leave them wanting more. Such is the case for their slate of Marvel Studios programming. One would think that with the tremendous, flattering success of Jessica Jones, and the warm reception for Daredevil season two, that Netflix would want to get new seasons of those shows rolling post haste. But no, we won’t see those shows again for a while. About two years to be precise. (more…)

It’s an probably an understatement to say that the Marvel Television panel tonight at San Diego Comic Con was pretty awesome. Fans got to see the teaser trailer for Luke Cage. It was followed up by a first look at Finn Jones as Iron Fist. But it was all a build up to the big reveal of the night, a teaser for The Defenders.

This is another of those take with a big grain of salt Internet rumors so buckle up and let’s consider it.
