Amidst the startling Marvel cancellations on Netflix the past few weeks, fans have become a little uncertain about the future of the Marvel Defenders series. Luke Cage and Iron Fist have been axed, either to disappear into non-existence or to transfer, somehow, onto Disney’s upcoming streaming service. One of the series that lives on, though, is Daredevil. With the third season recently premiering, fans can buzz about that instead of worry about the Netflix Superheroes. And boy is this new dip into Daredevil’s life an interesting reprieve.
Last fans left Daredevil, AKA Matt Murdock, he had a building collapse in on him and his beloved doomed assassin, Elektra. It seemed finally they both got to die as heroes, successfully running from the darkness within them.
Of course, it’s hard for superheroes to stay dead. Against all odds, and never explained, Murdock manages to wash through the sewers and out of the collapse. His suit is destroyed and he’s badly wounded, but he’s alive. Then, he’s found and taken to his childhood home, the church orphanage, and is cared for by the nuns and priest who know him best. August 2017’s The Defenders ended on one double doozy of shock: leader and fan-favorite Matt Murdock, AKA Daredevil, perished in the collapse of The Hand, only to be late revealed alive and in recovery at an undisclosed location. His assumed death effected the other heroes tremendously, but what will his resurrection do?
This October, Daredevil seems to be back in action and ready to take on the world. However, he’s one hell of a changed man. In The Defenders, he not only learned his power as a leader but also committed himself to Elektra, til death do they part. Tragically, though, it seems Elektra didn’t survive the collapse like he did, leaving him alone all over again.
Recently, the poster for his third season was released, as well as a trailer. Throughout his run, Murdock struggled between the just hero he wished he could be and the righteous defender that darkly swarmed in his soul. He’s torn between these versions of himself, both wanting to do their best by the world but in very different ways. Both seasons it seemed that however dark he got, the just side of him always won out. This third season, however, it seems his darker side is at the forefront.
The final trailer for Netflix and Marvel‘s The Defenders has hit the Internet and centers on Alexandria played by Sigourney Weaver. She’s a mystery at this point, but just listen to her explain the facts of life to our four heroes, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and Matt Murdock and it’s easy to hear the malevolent undertones clearly. Alexandria is one lady not to be messed with. Check it out below. (more…)
Marvel’s cinematic universe has an angsty, brooding cousin on television. While the MCU flits about with interdimensional beings, ancient gods and big green men in torn shorts, the TV world of Marvel prefers to hang around in dark alleys, flipping coins and biting toothpicks. With the arrival of The Defenders later this month, Marvel will tie some of its most compelling on-screen characters together into a single storyline, and truly establish its TV output as a universe in its own right. However, might they have bitten off more than they can chew? (more…)
All eyes are going to be on the Avengers and their pending Infinity War, but long before that, we’re finally going to see Marvel’s street-level, and streetwise, heroes team up for The Defenders. The series launches next month on Netflix, so the hype-building has begun and frankly not much has to be done because we’ve been building up to this for three years now. So what can they do to help sell this movie in face of that? How about bringing on the guy who knows Marvel heroes better than anyone? (more…)
While The Avengers might get the billion-dollar budgets, the support of clandestine government agencies, a giant floating aircraft carrier and an honest-to-God God backing them up, not every superhero team can boast those kinds of assets. Down on the dirty streets of New York, the heroes that survive are lone wolves who views partnership as a hazard they may not be able to afford. This has been the draw behind The Defenders, Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series that has been on its way down the pipe for over three years. Today, we got our first official image from the production team, along with a whole slew of new rumours, hints and tantalising factoids. Let’s dive in. (more…)
