New Set Photos From ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Show Off Malekith and the Dark Elves

These aren’t our first photos from the set of Thor: The Dark World, but they offer our first look at Malekith the Accursed and his army of Dark Elves. That’s former Doctor, Christopher Eccelston under all that armor and two-toned face makeup. I can barely recognize him! Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is here too, wearing his full Asgardian armor and looking a little worse for wear. I’m guessing it’s been a tough day introducing Elves to the business end of Mjolnir.

Check out a few of the shots here in our gallery, and see more at Splash News courtesy of photographer Paul Hennessy.

What do you think of Malekith and his Elves? I must admit they look a little silly, but they’re not really meant to be seen in such harsh daylight without any CGI, I’m sure. In fact it looks like Eccelston has a couple black dots on his face which is commonly seen on actors who will require some post, CGI work. Wonder what they’ll be adding in digitally?

Are you guys pleased with what you’re seeing here?

Official ‘Thor 2′ Plot Synopsis Revealed

I’m fairly sure, anyone that reads Nerd Bastards, or keeps up with comic book movie news, knows the premise of Thor 2. Evil elves fuck shit up… Thor and crew realm hop and save the universe from going to hell.

Reading an official plot synopsis at this point seems, well, rather pointless. Still… if you want read it, we got it.

The plot outline was revealed today at New York Comic Con.  As suspected, it confirms the Alan Taylor-directed film will include all of Norse Mythology’s Nine Realms, and a glimpse of the villain(s).

Official Synopsis:

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery” #83 in August, 1962.

“Thor: The Dark World” is presented by Marvel Studios. The executive producers are Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, Craig Kyle and Nigel Gostelow. The film releases November 8, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Actually, having read that, I think Thor 2 might just be the biggest solo film since Iron Man 1. Just get rid of Jane Foster and we good!

Jaimie Alexander Seriously Injured on ‘Thor 2′ Set

Bringing those incredible action movies we all love to life is no easy task, especially for the actors and their stunt stand-ins who recreate insane and dangerous scenes for our viewing pleasure. Over the year’s we’ve all read tragic stores of a stuntman losing his life while one set or actors injuring themselves when they push too far, and today’s story is no different, but thankfully the injured party is reportedly one the mend.

Jaimie Alexander has been on set in London filming for Thor: The Dark World where she plays the Asgardian warrior, Sif. On Monday she sent out this tweet which had everyone pretty worried,

There’s been no explanation about what the “pretty horrible injury” was, but Alexander tweeted out on Tuesday that all was well,

Well, that’s a relief! We here at Nerd Bastards are hoping Alexander recovers quickly, we need her at her fighting best to help Thor defend Midgard, Asgard, and whatever other realms are being threatened in the upcoming sequel.

‘Thor 2′: More Battle Shots, Possible First Look At Zachary Levi As Fandral, And Stan Lee Teases Cameo

A bunch of set photos snapped from the set of Thor 2 have hit the interwebz. The first few waves of images featured Lady Siff riding into battle, followed by a few action shots of Thor.  This round of pics, however,  give us our first look at Zachary Levi, taking over the role of Fandral.

From the gallery, there are two pictures in question. The first one features Fandral about to give a dark elf (I assume it’s a dark elf) “the people elbow”.  The second shows him standing next to Thor; a fine view of both their backsides. Both images are kind of hard to make out. Not sure if it’s Levi or his stunt double. I’ll leave it to you to decide.

All of the pics thus far, though, have been of an epic battle between the Asgardians and a bunch of fugly creatures. It’s all looking like something out of Lord of the Rings, but with a little more bling. Basically, good guys fighting a bunch of orcs with swag.

Since the movie is titled Thor 2: The Dark World, and being some script details have revealed some trouble with some dark elves, I think we can assume the beasties pictured here are of said elves. Check out the gallery below and debate for yourselves.

Also is Thor 2 news,  Nuke the Fridge have reported some confirmation of Stan Lee’s inevitable cameo.  Appearing on stage at LA’s Comikaze Festival, The Man said:

You’ve never seen anything like it, neither have I. Don?t miss it!

Oh, what a tease!  Considering all of Stan’s infamous cameos were on earth, do you think we can expect something otherworldly this time around? I mean come on, gods, dark elves, the nine realms… it’s gotta be something fantastical.

‘Thor 2’ Rumors – Major Character Going to Bite the Dust?

Rumors, rumors, rumors!  Yes, we here at the NB got em all right here, right now.  Enough rumors to tantalize, tease and, ultimately, frustrate every fan of every film being made.  This week’s rumormill addition?  Thor 2: The Dark World may feature the death of a major character.

“Sources” involved in the currently ongoing shooting process are saying that someone is going to die.  One individual has even gone so far as to claim that it will be none other than Odin (AKA Anthony Hopkins with an eye patch and beard).

This could be complete rubbish, of course, but even if it proves to be true it wouldn’t be such the huge ordeal that some might think.  They’ve killed off ol’ One-Eye a few times in the comics only to bring him back later (usually).  But, considering this is a movie franchise, it could be an attempt to phase Hopkins out.  Given that Marvel Studios probably wants to make another 10 sequels, he might have decided to get off the ship before it sets sail for the next 20 years.

The has a set release date of November 6th, 2013, so I guess we’ll have to wait until then to see if and who is going to get the axe.

Idris Elba Speaks on Heimdall’s Role in ‘Thor 2’

Thor 2: The Dark World is gearing up for production, bringing on board the old cast as well as adding some new faces.  One of the originals, actor Idris Elba, was recently talking about his reprisal of Heimdall, the guardian of the Bifrost bridge.  Despite the bridge being blown to bits and Heimdall looking like he might be perusing the want-ads, Elba says he’s getting an expanded role in the Thor sequel.

In an interview with examiner.com, he had this to say:

In the new film we’re going to get to know Heimdall the Asgardian a bit better, and we’re going to get to know Asgard a bit better. I can’t say too much, but the expansion of Thor in his world is going to be huge. My part was very small & functional in the first film, but I still felt very privileged to play him — especially since Heimdall looks a certain way & has a Nordic lineage — & here I was playing this character and bringing him to life in a different way. It felt quite groundbreaking to be a part of that.

Aside from that, we’ll just have to wait and see what sort of extra stuff the writers have put together for Heimdall when Thor 2 releases on November 8th, 2013.

Thanks to ComicBookMovie for the heads-up.

More ‘Thor 2’ – Casting, Casting, Casting!

Thor 2: The Dark World may not be coming soon to a theater near you, but people are still just as excited as if they only had a few more weeks to wait.  The studio is finishing up casting of the film and fans eagerly await each bit of news regarding who will be in it, what roles they might be playing and what that means to the overall story of the sequel.  The latest additions to the cast?  Kat Dennings and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Kat Dennings will be continuing her role as Darcy Lewis, despite other obligations with her popular TV show 2 Broke Girls.  Her return was questionable for a while, but it looks like she decided to go ahead and jump on board.  In the first film she was a somewhat forgettable sidekick to Natalie Portman, but it looks like this time around she will be getting a little more screen time.

The other addition, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (try saying that five times fast) is probably most famous for his role in the frightfully confusing television show Lost.  In Thor 2 he will be taking on the part of a Dark Elf by the name of Algrim.  According the rumor mill, he’ll get to take a shot or two at beating up Thor.

In case you’ve been living in a closet with no Internet, the rest of the (important) cast so far are as follows:  Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Stellan Skarsgard, Rene Russo and Christopher Eccleston.

Thor 2: The Dark World is set for release on November 8th, 2013 and will be the second installment of the “Phase 2” Marvel super hero movie bombardment.

Thanks to slashfilm for the heads-up on this one.

Tom Hiddleston Talks ‘Thor: The Dark World’

In a recent interview with Total Film, Tom Hiddleston dishes about playing the mischeivious god, Loki, and hints at what we can expect of Thor: The Dark World from director Alan Taylor,

I don’t want to give too much away. But I can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed. Alan Taylor’s vision of Thor 2 is utterly brilliant. The journey continues in the most epic dimension and proportion imaginable. It’s very, very exciting.

While I totally believe him because I too have high hopes for Thor 2 and expect it to be brilliant, would Hiddleston actually admit if shit? No, but he probably wouldn’t be involved if that were the case either.

He continues with a fascinating response when asked what it’s like to bring Loki to life,

The best thing about being Loki is that he is my diametric opposite. Physically, he is a photo negative of who I am. Loki is dark and pale, and I am light and fair. Also spiritually I am not much like him either. Yet I feel an incredible freedom in playing him.

He is a combination of mercurial intellectual ability, emotional ambiguity, rakish charm, charisma and provocative wit. He has a wicked inclination to mischief, underneath which is a well of spiritual pain. Both these aspects are central to his depth as a character: his unashamed and perverse delight in creating chaos; and his capacity for raw emotional expression.

And – as my American friends tell me – he’s kind of a badass! He’s one of the richest, most rewarding, most fun characters I’ve ever played.

He is a total badass. Even if he is, y’know, bad. I think Hiddleston is a marvel as Loki – ucwidt? – and one of many examples of their fantastic decisions in casting. What have thought about his portrayal of Loki in Thor and The Avengers? What would you like to see from in Thor 2?

‘Thor 2: The Dark World’ Goes Underground (literally)

The filming for Thor 2: The Dark World is going to be starting up soon, so naturally people are grabbing at every bit of information they can find to figure out what’s going on behind the scenes.  The latest news consists of a revelation that the crew will be using the underground tunnels of London to do a fair amount of filming for the new flick.  Of course, with a name like The Dark World, I guess it comes as no surprise that they’d need some dark places.

But why so dark, Thor?  Speculation abounds, much of it concerning the possible use of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim as one of the main antagonists of the new film.  Fans of the comics know that the Dark Elves sometimes have dark homes and this latest report would seem to confirm the aforementioned rumor.  Unless, perhaps, this is just the first stage in a Thor / TMNT cross-over.

What do the fair Nerdreaders have to say about this one?  Are the Dark Elves a good choice of baddie to pit the hammer-wielding Asgardian against this time around?

For those that would rather just wait and see, expect Thor 2: The Dark World to hit theaters November 8th of next year.
