Well it’s been a couple of hours since our last story about the forthcoming Disney Star Wars trilogy, so here’s something. Earlier on we reported on the rumor that Toy Story 3 scribe, Michael Arndt, was being sought to write Episode VII. We can now take that out of the rumor pile and place it in the not rumor pile, along with the movie will be made and that it may be about a war in the stars. StarWars.com has posted this official statement:
“As pre-production of Star Wars: Episode VII begins, Lucasfilm has confirmed that award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay for the new Star Wars film. As revealed in the ongoing video series posted here on StarWars.com, Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas have begun story conferences with Arndt. Arndt won an Academy Award® for Best Original Screenplay for writing Little Miss Sunshine (2006), and was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for writing Toy Story 3 (2010).”
Personally, I am excited. Not that Arndt will be writing the movie though I am sure he’ll do a bang up job. No, I am happier by the fact that we have something confirmed and at least one small part of the speculation machine can stop. Seriously, it has only been a couple weeks now and we have enough rumors to take us through till Episode XXVI.
Now about Arndt. He’s got a good relationship with Disney, he’s has written some solid scripts and has cred in the business, plus… he is obviously a huge Star Wars nerd. He wrote Toy Story 3, a movie that is replete with Return of the Jedi references.
So, we now have that, we know who will write it. I return you to wild speculation and rumor spreading.

With director Gary Ross moving onto greener pastures, Lionsgate snatched upFrancis Lawrence (I am Legend) to helm next year’s Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. In addition to a new director, the studio has just called for a new script as well.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar award winner Michael Arndt, has been hired on to rewrite the script originally written by Slumdog Millionaire scribe Simon Beaufoy. Arndt is known for horrifying children and bringing adults to tears with Pixar’s Toy Story 3.
With Catching Fire being set for a theatrical release sometime in November of 2013, Arndt has plenty of work to get done in a very short amount of time. What are the odds that there will be at least one scene with a slow moving conveyor belt in front of a giant furnace?
In my opinion, Lionsgate is rushing the filming of Catching Fire. They have a decent director and snazzy writer at their disposal, yes, but churning out a quality film in such brief period of time seems an impossible task. It’s too big a gamble on too big a franchise.
Here’s a quick synopsis on Catching Fire:
– SPOILER ALERT –
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.
What’s up bastards! It’s the first Tuesday for the month of November and while it is voting day for some folks, it’s DVD Tuesday here at NerdBastards. Although all three are pretty much IMAX experience, you might find something you can use to show off the 3D. So what are you waiting for? Check what came out after the jump and see if there is something you want!
You know, it’s kind of sad to think that Pixar’s biggest rival is Dreamworks when you compare the movie catalog between the two. I guess the folks over at CollegeHumor thought the same and came up with this video. It’s hilarious to see the Toy Story cast just trashing all of Dreamworks CG animated film and it makes ya wonder if the folks over at Pixar does have conversations like this. Check the video out and see if you agree to what they think will happen to How to Train Your Dragon.

Nerd Question of the Week:
What is the best nerd pick up line?
The Winner is:
Jess:”Hello. I am female. My IQ is well within the 99th percentile. I have several gaming consoles and a large television. I have strong opinions about the Picard versus Kirk debate. I bring my own dice. I would like to show you my breasts.”
Fans have been charmed by the Toy Story franchise since the first movie premiered in 1995. 15 years later and the geniuses at Pixar are still going strong, producing quality movies that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Don’t believe me? You can say you were not amused by “Finding Nemo“, “Up” or “The Incredibles” but if you do, we can tell you’re lying. They’re just flat out good and funny.
“Toy Story 3” follows right along those lines. It is both very good and very funny, with a lot of laugh out loud moments and a few of our cold heartstrings being tugged.
I love Pixar. I love Disney. I love Toy Story. And now, not only has Toy Story and TS2 come out as a double feature, the TS3 trailer has been released! These past few couple of weeks have been wonderful. So, a little tidbit of info about TS3: It is being produced by Pixar and released by Disney. Lee Unkrich is the director and was to co-director of TS2. The original actor John Morris is still voicing Andy. Mattel and Lego are designing toys to promote the film and Disney Interactive Studios will be creating a video game based on the film. The movie will be coming out on June 10, 2010.
The plot is simple. Andy, who is now 18 years old, is going away to college. All of his toys are going to be put away in storage but at the last minute and decides to keep Woody. Before the rest of his toys can be put into the attic, they are accidentally thrown into the trash. The garbage men pick up the toys and send them off to a local day-care center. Woody is now on a mission to help save his friends and find them new homes.
And all the old characters are back, of course! Oh my goodness just got my first look at the new trailer! Holy Hell it looks amazing! Enjoy. After the jump, you can check out the trailer, new character poster, and TS3 teaser poster.
Here’s 1 for all you Toy Story nerds. Here’s a the new poster. From the look of this my guess would be we’ll start to see one of these for every character. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Plus, Oh my goodness just got my first look at the new trailer! Holy Hell it looks amazing! Sorry couldn’t throw it up here but, I got a link for ya! Enjoy.
