Toy Story

toystory

An Honest Trailer for Toy Story? Perish the thought. More often than not, the targets for Screen Junkies‘ Honest Trailers segment is a movie that doesn’t have a lot of, shall we say, renown. Sometimes a Matrix, or Jurassic Park, or Dark Knight slips through, but recent victims have included Armageddon, Fifty Shades of Grey and Ang Lee’s Hulk. So what, oh what can they say about Toy Story? It’s a modern masterpiece, the first of a long string of Pixar hits and an artistic work that revolutionized how animated works are conceived and created. Well, it turns out that Toy Story is pretty messed up on a lot of levels. Don’t believe me? Well this is an honest trailer after all. (more…)

Franchises don’t end, they just go on hiatus. To prove that once again, Walt Disney Animation and Pixar Animation Studios are going back into the vault and developing a new film based on some fan favorite characters. Or maybe we mean toy box. Yes, just four years after the release of the last movie, and nearly 20 years after the release of the first one, Toy Story is coming back to a theater near you. In a surprise announcement, Toy Story 4 has been set for a 2017 release under the direction of Pixar founder John Lasseter. Who else is involved, and how Toy Story ended up back on the studio’s radar, is revealed below. (more…)

Your favorite toys are returning for a new adventure, and you don’t even have to leave your (bad dream) house to enjoy it. ABC, Disney and Pixar are bringing the gang from Toy Story to TV in the special Toy Story of TERROR! and it looks like it promises the same mix of humor, charm and heartfelt emotion that made the three Toy Story movies very, and repeatedly, enjoyable.

The below clip comes from TV Guide and it offers a hint as to the special’s storyline and some of the toy characters who play a part in the spine-tingling tale. Not to spoil anything, but it involves a missing Potato-Head, some dinosaur drama, some mysterious goo, and some wise (not to mention meta) words of advise from Mr. Pricklepants.

But why take my word for it, let’s role the clip below:

Toy Story of Terror will air on ABC on October 16, and rerun on ABC Family on October 19.

Every day the internet produces an astounding amount of goodies and gems. Most hilarious, some amusing, but all worth at least a few seconds of your time. We here at Nerd Bastards try to bring you the best bits of news and nerdery the webz has to offer, with a bit of snark thrown in. But sometimes not everything makes the cut. Monday through Friday we’ll be bringing you our inbox leftovers, our forgotten bookmarks, the nerdy bits that simply slipped through the cracks. You can submit items to Nerdy Bits by emailing us at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

The Interwebz is a great place for nerdy art and the like. A lot of the time it’s crazy things like Tetris porn or the big reveal of where Catwoman stashes the hidden scepter Bastet while on the run. Hey, it’s the internet folks. Luckily there is always the counter balance of some mind blowing nerd based art. We collect it, you enjoy it, and we are all better for it.

While we’re eagerly awaiting the full trailer for Pixar‘s Brave, supposedly releasing tomorrow, we have found a few new images and some more plot details. The newest film from the studio that can’t fail (We’ll just agree to forget about Cars 2.) follows the adventures of a fiery, Scottish princess, Merida, who has no interest in landing a prince, but is more concerned with her archery and exploring the wilderness. This movie will also mark the first time a Pixar film features a female protaganist. It’s only taken 12 films, but thanks to the courageous performances from heroines like Jessie and Eve, we finally have a chick in the lead. This readers, is progress for gender equality in animated productions.

(Queen Elinor, King Fergus, Princess Merida, triplet Princes Harris, Hubert and Hamish)

Anyway, a preview of the film is being distrubuted by the Associated Press and it reveals a few more details about the flick,

Merida’s father tells of the 12-foot-tall beast with razor-sharp claws, a face scarred with a dead eye and “hide littered with the weapons of fallen warriors,” that chomped off his leg while the rebellious Merida transverses a lush forest, ascends a mountain and lands a bull’s eye at a tournament.

Other imagery teased in the new trailer includes Merida encountering mystical blue-hued wisps and the gnarly bear that took her father’s leg.

Over at Empire, they’ve collected some spectacular, good quality images of Brave‘s characters, check ’em out below.

Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida (Kelly MacDonald)  is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) andQueen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman(Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).

Brave arrives in theaters June 22nd, 2012.

The second of the Toy Story Shorts is set to premiere in front of The Muppets, opening next week (KermitFlail!!!) on November 23rd. Their first short, “Hawaiian Vacation” was attached to Cars 2. I haven’t seen it yet, but I heard it was better than the entirety of Cars 2. And I believe it.

Clearly the Pixar animators, writers, etc. are finding it hard to let the Toy Story gang go, and if they can keep cranking out these awesome shorts, they’re totally allowed to keep playing in the toy box.

Check out the short tease of the newest Toy Story Short, “Small Fry” about a Happy Meal-like toy who switches places with Buzz Lightyear.

A transforming t-bone steak? I am so there, Pixar!

And finally, I saved the really weird news of this Pixar update for last. Apparently, Hong Kong fashion label, Bossini, is releasing a line of clothing based on the Toy Story films. And, as can really only be expected of designer fashion, it features some really bizarre articles of clothing. Like above, what the fuck is that woman doing? Is she strangling herself with a scarf made to look like Jessie’s braid?

This news was brought to the attention of us state side by Toy Story 3 director, Lee Unkrich who tweeted, “I’m told they’ll only be in Disney Stores in the U.S., and that they’ll likely be hard to find.” So, uh, good luck to those of you who really want to own a creepy, Pizza Planet alien sweat shirt.

All right, which bit ‘o’ Pixar news are you most excited about? Brave? Toy Story’s “Small Fry”? Or the really weird Toy Story fashion line? I know, it’s the fashion line. Even I have to admit the Woody flannel shirt, is kind of cool.
