The Walking Dead has been an emotional rollercoaster so far this season. It opened with a mighty bang with the deaths of major characters. But then something strange happened. The show absolutely deflated after the season premiere, to the point where the show started losing an alarming number of viewers. The show blandly followed the journey of all the separated main survivors and struggled with pacing and entertainment value. For the most part, Jeffrey Dean Morgan‘s turn as Negan has been the highlight of the show, but even that has become stale and routine. But then the mid season finale rolls along and renews much of our faith in the show.

It is becoming painfully clear why the Walking Dead is losing so many viewers. The majority of the episodes are just flat out boring. The group is fractured and there is a blandness that permeates the individual survivors story lines. Sadly, “Sing Me A Song” is no different. There was no peril. Negan was menacing, but his routine is quickly losing its novelty. The sad part is that there were a couple of nice setups for some action, but they either didn’t pan out, or are being put on hold for next week’s 90 minute mid-season finale. (more…)

The Walking Dead has been dragging on slowly like a walker in mud since the murderous season opener. Thankfully, there have been some bright spots in the season such as “The Cell”, despite that godforsaken “Easy Street” song. Now we can add the Tara-centric “Swear” to that painfully small list of enjoyable episodes that have been aired thus far. You read that right: an episode all about Tara was actually a pretty good one. To be honest, most people had probably forgotten that Tara and Heath had gone off on a “two weeker” scavenging run immediately after the ambush at the satellite bunker.

The seventh season of The Walking Dead trudges on as the series continues to show the audience what is happening with all of the main characters since the bloodbath of the season premiere. The pace of the show is starting to bog down. It’s the 5th episode of the season and we are just now getting a look as to what happened with Sasha and Maggie. When we last saw them, Maggie was sick, both physically and with grief over the loss of Glenn. Sasha had volunteered to take her to get some medical attention from the doctor at Hilltop.

After last week’s trauma on The Walking Dead, it was nice to have a moment to breathe. As the show likes to do, we caught up with the adventures of Carol and Morgan after their shenanigans from last season. In case you forgot, towards the end of lasts season, Carol and Morgan came to blows (literally) over their conflicting ideologies. Carol started to become unraveled and left Alexandria. Morgan went after her. Bad stuff happened and we learned that Morgan and a wounded Carol have ended up in the company of the Kingdom.
