Tyrion Lannister

Grim fantasy. Now there’s a term most nerds never expected to make it into the mainstream. By the early 00’s, if you ever told a fantasy nerd that the dark and pessimistic Song Of Ice And Fire would become a mega-hit series and make mainstream incest jokes a thing, you’d have been laughed off every convention but now, with Game Of Thrones ready to break new ground (what with the Song Of Winter‘s irrevocable delay) everyone is waiting for Season 6 to take the biggest narrative leap of faith yet! At least, if the recently released teaser is anything to go by…

One of the interesting and fun things I love about fandoms is the periods between seasons and episodes when fans gather to discuss the series details, spin and speculate about why things happened, and what might possibly happen next. George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones has loads of fan interaction from both the book readers and the HBO television series watchers, often those fans being one and the same. Now we’d like to present you with one fan’s theory, feel free to insert “crazy” or the adjective of your choice in there, about everyone’s favorite wine drinking and whoring Lannister, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage). Prepare to have your Game of Thrones mind blown! (more…)

Each and every week we scour the Internet for nothing but the best in nerdy art. We leave no digital stone unturned, we poke and prod every nook and cranny of the Interwebz. Why? Because we love you, and we love to bring you weekly feed of nerd art.

On with the dump!

Once you remove the pixels from the survival creation game the mobs are a bit more terrifying than we would have expected. Look at this all you want too, but for the love of Notch don’t look him in the eyes. [Geek Tyrant]

Season 3 is coming – this weekend! It’s been nine months since we last saw the struggle between the noble families of Westeros as they fight for control of the Iron Throne, and things are looking quite grim for the people beyond The Wall. In preparation, we’ve picked some of our favourite pieces of Games of Thrones fanart from around the net just for you, so until Sunday rolls around lets all enjoy!

Above: This how a lot of people are hoping Game of Thrones ends once the books are finished and the series is filmed, Tyrion Lannister on the throne. Bobby Chiu, one half of imaginism with Kei Acedera, thought so anyway and put together this perfect representation of the true king. He even recorded the entire process start to finish. Good grief, winter is leaving. Adams Pinto put together this awesome Peanuts/Game of Thrones mash-up, originally for sale on t-shirts, but we wanted to show it off while not on someone’s body. It might not be available anymore, but at least it looks nice. [The Mary Sue]

The stuff of northern legends, White Walkers are the one race that could frighten even the toughest of men, and Caner Inciucumakes them look awesome. Accompanied by a pair of Wights, or zombies, their icy blue stare makes everything a bit creepier. [Deviant Art]

This isn’t the throne you’re looking for, it’s a bit more explosive. Created by Styerd in a piece called “Game of Clones” this Star Wars/Game of Thrones mash up is pretty dang cool, but even with all those blasters that trooper couldn’t hit the broad side of an Imperial cruiser. [GeekTyrant]

Light and shadows make anything cool in the right light and Robert Ball nailed it with these Game of Thrones head shots. Featuring several of the cast in a series of light and dark shots is a clever way to show both sides of a character. Needs more Hodor, but we have that covered. [The Mary Sue]

Ban and Hodor

You simply can not do a Game of Thrones art appreciation with out Brandon Stark and Hodor featured at least once. This very Calvin and Hobbes styled drawing by  shows off one of the finer points of the series. Sure, he only says one word, but if he could speak more he totally would. [Roaches Have Wings]

While we can’t got to places like Winterfell or Dragonstone, considering even with our technology we’d be screwed, at least we can show off our favourite locations at home. These Game of Thrones location posters created by Harshness are great ways to show off the size of some of the Seven Kingdoms’ nest known locations. [The muffled sounds of SCIENCE in the distance]

There’s not really much that we can say about this without bringing up the shrouded past of Tony Stark and his history in Westeros. What we can tell you is that Zach Jordan really knows how to keep an Iron Man joke from dying. [Deviant Art]

Daenerys Targareyen doesn’t have time for clothing, she’s the mother of dragons and she’s out to rule. One of the finest 2D drawings out there, TeiIku’s art should be on one of the covers of George R.R. Martin‘s books. [CGHUB]

Finally, we apologize for the sheer size of this beast, but we couldn’t ignore joscomie‘s massive Game of Thrones anime scroll. Featuring 49 of the characters from the television adaptation all packed onto one giant scroll in a sweet Japanese anime style. What a great way to show off the scale and scope of the show’s production. Bring on Season 3! [io9]

Compilations, montages, supercuts. Whatever you want to call them, lately, they’re everywhere. I like calling ’em supercuts. It’s fun to say. Supercuts. Suuuppeeerrcuts. See?

Anyway, supercuts are videos comprised of only one thing from either movies, television, video games or cartoons repeated over and over and over again. There are Star Wars supercuts, My Little Pony supercuts, Game of Thrones supercuts, Quentin Tarantino supercuts, and even a supercut focusing on the “Spielberg Face.” Basically, if some savvy video editor starts to notice recurring cliches, lines, or even camera shots they’re going to edit ’em all together into one massive supercut.

Here we’ve got a superb collection of 25 supercuts spanning all kinds of things. Check ’em out and let us know which is your favorite! I know we haven’t included every excellent supercut so if you’ve got a favorite we missed share it in the comments below and help us make this an ultimate collection.

Every Single Fucking Dude from The Big Lebowski [TannerStraus]

He’s just, “the Dude,” y’know? What an enviable title, who wouldn’t want to be known by one and all as, “the Dude”? This style of supercut is pretty common, an edit of one word or phrase repeated again and again, but there’s something about hearing “Dude” continually repeated I find calming. It’s good for my zen.

Peter Dinklage returned to his Alma mater Bennington College last Friday to give the graduating class of 2012 commencement speech. That’s the good news, the bad news is the shaky camera work, the poor volume control, and the raucous crowd, but you can get past that with just a little effort.

The speech begins with Peter showing off the mace that one student quickly handed him as he walked to the podium. Not some foam rubber LARP mace, no, a hand-made mace that, as Peter put it: “I would like to thank you Ben, for helping me put the fear of God in the audience.

It’s an interesting speech, a fascinating look into his career, his family life, and friends.

“When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.” In exactly one week from today, HBO’s hit series ‘Game of Thrones‘ will return for its second season with the echo of swords clashing throughout the realm. As the second season prepares to debut, are you caught up on all the shenanigans of season 1? If you don’t have the time to sit and watch every episode of the 1st Season, then luckily for you HBO has put together  a 22-minute video recap narrated by show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as well as by actors Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Emilia Clark (Daenerys Targaryen)Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister aka the ”Imp”) and Nicolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister).

If you were hiding under a rock all this time on the backstabs and politics of season 1 then  this video is perfect for you, but if not then just watch it for the small spoilers and glimpses of Season 2.

Game of Thrones Season 2 is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s A Clash of Kings, the second book from his A Song of Ice and Fire saga

War is coming. Are you ready?
