If “The Climb” had all the emotion and decisiveness of a season finale, then “Left Behind,” the winter premiere of Arrow, had all the forward momentum and drive of a season premiere. New motivations were discovered, the status quo was shaken up, and everything we were led to think happened, actually happened with some slight adjustment. Emotionally impacting, but still not short on any action, Arrow began 2015 with a simple, but pointed question: Can Arrow still be Arrow without Arrow? In other news, a new villain arrives with big plans, an old villain sees his plans fall apart, and a new hero borrows an old identity to become the latest Starling City resident to kick ass and take names. Now, this is what it looks like to have some concrete casting information. Oliver Queen will once again be dealing with a rogue’s gallery regular, as longtime adversary Brick gets introduced to live action villainy. For those of us who have no idea who this guy is, Danny Brickwell was a gangster who saw prime opportunity in Star City’s temporary void of underworld bosses. While most of the shady characters around town saw chaos, Danny jumped at the chance to showcase his own brand of order, mostly through drug sale. This storyline took shape after the comic storyline ‘Green Arrow: City Walls’ and established Brick as a real problem for Arrow’s ample quiver of solutions. And bringing him to the small screen is an actor who is used to playing hard-to-kill characters. (more…)
