Wizarding World of Harry Potter
If Universal Studios is known for anything, it is its ability to bring even the most fantastical cinematic worlds into reality. Since the summer of 2010, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has brought a touch of J K Rowling’s signature magic to visitors to the park. It boasts a replica of Hogwarts Castle and its grounds which guests can tour, complete with a welcome speech from the esteeemed headmaster Albus Dumbledore himself. It offers thrilling rides as well as shops and restaurants bursting with fun food and souvenirs inspired by the Harry Potter stories, with experiences ranging from battling dragons and dementors, to sipping butterbeer by the fire. To be completely honest, every time I read the title to this new ride, all I hear is Tony Soprano calling his son AJ “googootz”. My brain is weird.
Universal Orlando has finally confirmed details regarding the new signature ride at the soon-to-be-opened Diagon Alley expansion of “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” (a place I will go simply to gorge myself on butter beer). The Harry Potter and the Escape from Googootz — excuse me, Gringotts — ride will feature vehicles that seat twelve folks and carry visitors “through a Harry Potter story featuring villains, dragons and goblins.” Today, Universal revealed a bunch of new details on the theme park attraction, including Harry Potter and the Escape from Googootz photos and concept art.
While Harry Potter has had the honor of his own theme park for some time now, the folks at Universal Studios Orlando have been looking to expand on it, bringing whole other areas of the Harry Potter mythos into the real world. This time around they put together a version of the famous Diagon Alley and have appropriately titled the new addition as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. And while the rest of the Harry Potter theme park is located at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, those with tickets to both parks will be able to take the trip from one locale to the other via the Hogwarts Express. Check out some concept pics of the new park below. (more…)
Are your wands stiffed in anticipation of Universal Studios: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter? Well then take gander like Ollivander (sorry, it rymes) at the first official photo of Hogwarts Castle. Although it’s still very much a work in progress, the magnificence of Hogwarts Castle has taken shape above Hogsmeade in Universal Studios: Orlando latest attraction. We do not know what the precise scale is, defiantly not 1:1 but regardless the structure is massive. The wizarding school replica will house a new state-of-the-art attraction – Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey – that uses ground-breaking technology to bring magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in way never before experinced. Outside of the Castle is where the world of Harry Potter is fully realized. The highly anticipated land will also feature attractions, shops and signature eating establishments of the Potter-verse (basically a giant Harry Potter themed mall). You can drink Butter Beer from 3 Broomsticks, buy extendable ears at Zonko’s, have an interactive wand experience at Ollivanders, send a certified Hogsmeade postmarked letter from the OWL post and take home a number of magical creatures and merchandise from Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods. Whether your a Harry Potter fan or not this is some seriously impressive shit. The park is set to open sometime in the Spring of 2010.
