Ever since The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park opened at Universal Studios I’ve been wondering when and if a Lord of The Rings themed park would open at one of the sites.

Well call it nerd wish fufillment, because it looks like will have a real Middle Earth to explore. Universal Studios has the following pitch:

Imagine if you will a world unlike any you’ve ever visited before: it’s Middle Earth, the ancient and beautiful land forged by J.R.R. Tolkien as the backdrop for his two most well known creations, Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Walk as a human among dwarves, elves, orcs and hobbits — all faithfully recreated and portrayed in the spirit of the original characters as they appeared in both the books and the movies. In this land you’ll experience one-of-a-kind rides and attractions that bring to life some of the most memorable experiences of Tolkien’s world including Bilbo’s hobbit hole, the fortress at Isengard (before it was destroyed) and even the dark world of Mordor — including the terrifying volcanic Mount Doom.

While the Wizarding World may be a little more kid friendly, this idea has the capacity for people step into living art.
Think about all the opportunity there is to disappear out of this life and go to The Shire? Potter has more family friendly fare, like butterbeer and crazy candy, but LOTR has Lamnis Bread!! One bite is enough to fill the stomach of a man, BAM! How do you like that Twatters? Eat some nice Rabbit stew, with enough taters to make Golem mental. So the breakdown would be, what different areas of middle earth has the appeal to validate a theme park? My thoughts would be The Shire, Rivendell, maybe even the pedestal where Narsil rested, maybe the interior of Sarumon ‘s castle, The little town of Bree, Rohan, Helms Deep…What else? There is alot of scary factor, like Orcs and Uruk-Hai walking the beat, but in turn it allows Disney to just build something fun, but epic. People will say “Will it draw the kids in?” No it will draw the 20 something guys from Clerks 2 who will whip out their Preciouses to gain entry. This place will be a Mecca for the masses, and Nerdbastards worldwide.
